G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Lots of Mets fans complaining about d'Arnauds inability to control the running game. Royals are a bad team to have the problem against.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Congratulations to the KC Royals! I don't like them at all...but they deserved to win. They got it done when they needed to. I hope they choke on their rings and they all get chlamydia.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 And our off season is shorter than usual. That's kind of nice. I'm already having Blue Jay's withdrawals. Being retired I was looking forward to watching that great team play almost every day, and now.... nothing. Now I'm switching to my Habs which are off to their best start ever, but I still prefer my Jays. I have high hopes with Shapiro, he knows his stuff.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I was pleased to see Salvador Perez get the MVP. There's a bunch of douches on KC, but Perez is not one of them. Hard guy not to like.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Congrats to those KC fkers. Hate them, but that's one hell of a run, so credit where it's due.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Yost knows how to manage the team he has, which is something. If he had Liam Hendriks in his pen, he wouldn't use him as a freakin mop up guy. He uses his best relievers when it matters, and stupid lineup construction aside, he puts his best players out there everyday and values defense. He would be awful on a more saber friendly team but for that team it works. Baseball is strange. Don't care for the Royals but they won it all. Props to them. Singles for days.

It's kind of hard to mess up when all of your relievers save Morales are pretty much lights out.

Gibbons messed up with Hendriks all season and didn't realize how good Cecil was until Sanchez kept blowing 8th inning chances late in the year. After watching Gibby all season, I don't take stuff like that for granted.
baubau Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 The Royals bandwagoning reminds me of those goddamn Seahawks fans who came out of nowhere. I want to see that team dismantled and ruined back to obscurity in the next 5 years.... Meh. The Blue Jays were the same this year.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Meh. The Blue Jays were the same this year. Because this is the only thing they have seriously had to cheer about in the city besides to first round knockout of the Raps. This city was desperate for anything to be successful
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 K.C. had two players (Zobrist and Gordon) play every game in the playoffs that missed significant time in the regular season. (Zobrist was a late addition) Paulo Orlando (.269 on base) and Infante (.234 on base) took a lot of the at bats before Zobrist and Gordon become regulars. The playoff team was a different team then the regular season team was. If Zobrist and Gordon were there for the entire year they would of walked 80 more times or so then Orlando and Infante. a) make a pretty good team that would hit for average, walk an average amount, and score runs. have your backups get on base at a .250 rate c) just for giggles give too many at bats to .280ish on base percentage guys. d) the team on base percentage will drop from "really good" to "just above average" e) get he high on base percentage players back for playoffs, and get on base more than your opponent in every series. f) FINALLY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS PROVE BILLY BEAN WRONG!!!
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I enjoy how a huge part of "Royals Baseball" involves hitting routine balls right at opposing players and daring them not to f*** up. They are definitely a well-constructed team but they should've lost 5-6 games this postseason alone which they wound up winning. Good on them for taking advantage but I just can't call them anything more than the luckiest f***ing team I've ever watched. If by luck you mean opposing players f***ing up on defensive plays (Like Goins, Murphy, Duda) then yeah, they're pretty "lucky". Also, they never choked with RISP. I don't call this "luck".

Also, they never choked with RISP. I don't call this "luck". Its a combination of luck and skill. They got hot at the right time and we didn't. Cespedes was a huge part of what got the Mets to the post season but sucked in the world series. Cueto sucked for KC in the reg season mostly but throws a WS 2 hitter against the Mets. KC deserved it but they were also insanely lucky. But that's how WS winners roll. Once you are in the playoffs it a crap shoot.
metafour Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 He uses his best relievers when it matters Except for the time he let Bautista hit a game-tying HR off Madson with Wade Davis standing around in the bullpen....
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 You should. Nah. I'll admit that some of these hits were lucky. But the big hits (Moustakas off Price, Hosmer sac fly in game 1, Gordon's homer in game 1) weren't luck. The only pure luck I'll give them is when they got those s*** calls from the ump in the 9th inning in game 6 of the ALCS.

I believe all their big hits weren't lucky, they were hard hit line drives /doubles.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Congrats to the Royals for winning the World Series. Good thing they won it this year--next year might be a little dicey for them. They have at least 1-2 holes in the rotation to fill, with Cueto and Young expected to leave for bigger money in free agency, Zobrist heading elsewhere, Madson and Franklin Morales expected to get better deals elsewhere, Rios and Guthrie expected to have their options declined.. and of course, Alex Gordon is likely to leave, as he is expected to get overpaid elsewhere (possibly Boston, as they are seriously interested in him.) In addition, arb raises are expected to eat up any financial flexibility. Due to their World Series win, Moustakas, Cain and Hosmer will likely get massive raises to close to $8M-$10M/year. Escobar gets a raise to $5.25M (good thing they locked him up until 2017, as he'd easily get a close to $100M+ over 6-7 years contract right now if he had his option declined. So the Royals are going to have to get creative.. no way they can afford to drive the payroll to about $140M-150M, which is where they're headed. This market is much smaller than Toronto.. and plus, when 2017 hits, the Royals will need to choose who to lock up, as all their core is expected to get huge money in free agency. And it is a possibility Wade Davis may be dangled in trades, as he has $18M left in two options for 2016 and 2017, as the Royals need to reload their farm system and MLB club for when the core leaves after the 2017 season.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I puked at "Escobar gets a raise to $5.25M (good thing they locked him up until 2017, as he'd easily get a close to $100M+ over 6-7 years contract right now if he had his option declined.*"
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Except for the time he let Bautista hit a game-tying HR off Madson with Wade Davis standing around in the bullpen.... He almost blew it as well in the division series leaving Madson in for Houston to light him up. If it wasn't for their comeback, that would've ended right then and there.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Wonder what Royals payroll will be. Obviously back to back years in the WS will help drive it up.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I puked at "Escobar gets a raise to $5.25M (good thing they locked him up until 2017, as he'd easily get a close to $100M+ over 6-7 years contract right now if he had his option declined.*" Unfortunately, with today's free agent market, that is the reality.. there'd be a team stupid enough to give that money. Especially after his strong playoffs. Ask Pablo Sandoval..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Wonder what Royals payroll will be. Obviously back to back years in the WS will help drive it up. Including options, which include guaranteed money ($63.5M for 10 players), Davis and Escobar's options ($13.25M), and the likely declines of Rios, Guthrie, Gomes and Gordon's options, and Guthrie's buyout ($3.2M), that's about $80M there. Cain and Moustakas are expected to get substantial raises to about $16-20M.. so that's $100M. Other arb raises take it up to about $110M.. and of course, the Royals need a 1-2 pitchers and potentially 2 outfielders.

Thats pretty crazy that the US only draws those numbers from a 330 million person country.

Gm 6 drew an average over 5M peaking at peaking at 7M (I think) and the gold medal hockey game in '10 drew in 15M...
