Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I think Shapiro underestimated the media in this market. Its close to Boston/New York right now after all the success the Jays had. The Raptors and Leafs have made it a priority that nothing leaks at all to the media while with the Jays its been the opposite. It's interesting because there are cases where you can use leaks and rumours to your advantage, but I have to think the best approach is to keep your yap shut. Will be interesting to see if they make an effort to get this under control or not.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Gonna be depressing if we end up seeing a bunch of #1-2 caliber starters that we traded away, playing for league minimum, while we pay a bunch of #3-4 caliber guys 13M+

This team doesn't make the playoffs with Reyes still at SS and at this point he's a $30 million sunk cost.

I expect a very good few years from Tulo and Reyes was a trainwreck that we jumped out from just in time.

Basically said he is one the hardest workers on the team and he is one of those guys that wants to elite for a long time. Even though he has money and all that he is always trying to be better and helps the young guys try to be better as well. In the world of analytics and numbers today I think some of that gets lost on what a player's value can be.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 That's funny cause his stats remind me more of Justin Nicolino. I ain't seeing Syndergaard's 10K/9 rate from Hoffman.

I ain't seeing Syndergaard's 10K/9 rate from Hoffman. I'd be interested to see how he would have developed with the new regime in Toronto. The Rockies are one of the worst teams in MLB at pitcher development so there's a good chance Hoffman doesn't achieve his true potential in Colorado.

They'd look fine on Leafs players but having the Jays wear that colour leaf is just wrong.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I like it, better than that giant red maple leaf they wore last year I'm not big on jingoism but that hat sold like hot cats. From a marketing perspective, it was pure gold. I can't see this one being a hit. Probably designed by someone who hasn't even heard of The Toronto Maple Leafs.

Here's to hoping that doesnt make an appearance in the regular season. I think both are turrrrible. The solution seems so obvious to me.....bring back the white faced hats (either with the old 92/93 symbol - or the new symbol) and call it a day. Personally, I hate when they try and assimilate the Blue Jays with Canada I'm tired of remembering 92/93, so I'd go white face/new symbol. If I recall, they brought those back in season last year - just make them the ST hats.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 EE playing his cards right. There's an opportunity here for him to take advantage of this. The team could use some good pr and he might benefit from the fact that Bautista seems to have priced himself off the team.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 It's actually conceivable Edwin would want half the AAV that Bautista wants.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 EE playing his cards right. There's an opportunity here for him to take advantage of this. The team could use some good pr and he might benefit from the fact that Bautista seems to have priced himself off the team. I love the E-Rex. He is a great story from DFA to stud bat. If you think about it they could actually do a deal with Edwin and let Jose walk and the vast majority of fans would be just fine with it (more importantly it may be the right business decision) Still the same principles apply with Edwin. Id only extend if there if the term/AAV is discounted to reflect the risk not letting him play out 2016 under his current deal.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I actually feel Edwin will end up staying long term when all is said and done. He's two years younger than Bautista, but he's strictly a DH. The market for him will be different. Only a handful of teams would be willing to give a DH in his mid-30's the type of money he wants. I think this has a chance to end up like Alex Gordon where EE tests the market but ends up coming back for a more reasonable than expected contract. The Red Sox are the main threat but they may have to keep DH open for Hanley or Pablo. I don't mind moving on from Edwin but if the deal is reasonable, then go for it.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Edwin is so much more loveable than Bautista as well.
