G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Looks like it. And Gibby is suggesting Sanchez has the inside track on SP5. I'm rather excited to see how much closer to his ace upside Sanchez can move this year. Gibby has always been high on Sanchez
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Gibby has always been high on Sanchez If Sanchez can do what I expect and put in 30 starts, it gives us some nice depth with Chavez, Hutchison, and Floyd as our 6-7-8 starters.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 how many other managers would've plugged Tulo into the leadoff spot? how many other managers would've moved Donaldson from 5th to 2nd after one week of the season ... and even let JD leadoff 7 games? and so I doubt Gibbons is yearning for Omar (the Out Maker) Moreno.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 LMAO - you don't think Martin can handle an extra 0.3 at bat/game (or whatever the differential between batting 1st and 5th is) wat
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Anyways, I dont think the leadoff spot is going to dictate the end result of the Jays season this year. The offense is good enough, and it will definately be top 5 in baseball, probably top 3, and possibly the best again. The question is going to be starting pitching, to that end, we need to stop with these Ace Aaron Sanchez fantasies. Hutch needs to start and have a good comeback season for us, Happ needs to carry on his momentum from Pittsburgh, Estrada has to continue to be Acetrada, and old man Dickey better not collapse completely.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 lol do you know how tired Martin would be? Catchers cant lead off. I did think of that but then came back to how all he has to do is job when JD, JB, EE and Tulo hit HRs. Martin likely is going to get a few extra days off this year anyway. Likely won't catch any Dickey starts or day after night games.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 So I take from this zero chance Osuna gets a shot at the rotation?!?! Career high 75 (or so) innings, spent an entire season in the pen last year.....unless they send him down, I don't think they can realistically stretch him out and keep him in the bigs. Wouldn't shock me if he struggles as a RP in 2016 and is sent down to stretch out, but that's the only scenario where I see him starting in 2016.

This was my main argument in favour of Gibby last year. Funny how a good decision that becomes routine turns invisible to people.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 wat you actually think an extra at bat every 3 games (the result of batting 1st instead of middle of the order) will be too tiring for Martin? do you know how much work outside of the actual game a pro ballplayer puts in?

I quoted the wrong guy. You're right.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Osuna in the major league starting rotation was never going to happen. Not a realistic scenario given where he's at in his development. Assuming Storen takes the closer's job, Osuna can transition into a two inning reliever and then the team can re-assess from there.

I want he suxxxx out of the bullpen ala Miguel Castro last year. Shapiro will send him to the minor to start games then lol
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Shapiro will send him to the minors to start games at some point no matter what because Shapiro is smart. Maybe next year. He's only 21
puphood Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Sounds minor and just probably a scope but foreshadowing of his age......
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Anyone here anything about Pompey in LF? I know they will give Saunders the first crack but on days off?
baseballsss Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Anyone here anything about Pompey in LF? I know they will give Saunders the first crack but on days off? You won't know till near the end of Spring Training. If he wants a bench spot or the LF spot he'll have to win it.
rydermike Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Dunno where else to put this but anyone who was trying to get one of Stroman's limited hats, they're at Jays Store Eaton's now They still have the three snapbacks in stock. The fitted (the one with jays logo) they only have big sizes left 7 3/4 being smallest. I was there today
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) Did anyone catch Bobcat's riveting discussion with Barker today? It was classic. Highlights include: - Barker believes Sanchez will be in the pen because he only his 2 pitches...fastball and slider - but he still thinks his upside as a starter is off the charts. Bobcat notes he's been working out with Stroman in the offseason...assumes Stroman taught him a third pitch. No mention of his curveball or change up. - Barker thinks Osuna will stay in the pen because he only has 2 pitches...fastball and change up. Then he mentions a slow curveball Osuna was throwing late in the season (no idea what he's talkng about). Nobody intelligent enough to mention Osuna throws a wipeout slider... - Bobcat thinks Bruce would hit 40 hrs in Toronto...I'd have to assume he thinks that because RC is so good for hitters and he has no idea Cinny's park is a bandbox...errr maybe Bob is just stupid/ignorant. - Bobcat insists to every guest that Shatkins should be exploring trading Batista NOW.....not one guest mentions that Jose has 10/5 rights, which severely complicates the matter. - Everyone talks about losing Jose for nothing....nobody mentions a QO and draft pick compensation... - lots of chatter about how Bruce plays good defence. - Actual discussions on whether Jose has lost a step defensively with most suggesting he hasn't amd remains elite. I know I shouldn't expose myself to it...but it's f***ing embarrassing. These guys get paid to talk sports...can they at least not try and keep up? Barker was a catcher for Christ sakes - can he not keep track of what pitches our guys throw? Edited February 24, 2016 by Brownie19

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 This type of info NEVER leaked under Anthopolous Gives us a lot more to talk about though... Nobody wants to discuss how dumb Bobcat and his friends are?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Oh and I had a general (dumb) question.....can you issue a qualifying offer to ANY pending FA? Ie, it's not limited to guys who are hitting the FA market for the first time or something? I assume you can, which is why we could do that with Jose and EE?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Oh and I had a general (dumb) question.....can you issue a qualifying offer to ANY pending FA? It applies to any player eligible for free agency as long as they were on your team for the entire season Players traded mid season (like Price and Cespedes last year) are exempt.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 That's why good players like that who were traded mid season are so appealing as free agents - they don't cost you a draft pick to sign them. (didn't matter with Cespedes because he stayed with the Mets but it was nice for Boston and Price)

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 This type of info NEVER leaked under Anthopolous Yeah it seems like whoever is working in FO doesn't respect Shapiro/Atkins enough to keep quiet
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 This type of info NEVER leaked under Anthopolous I think Shapiro underestimated the media in this market. Its close to Boston/New York right now after all the success the Jays had. The Raptors and Leafs have made it a priority that nothing leaks at all to the media while with the Jays its been the opposite.
