G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 The thought of Happ and Estrada facing Edwin many times a year, always at the RC or Fenway (ug) frankly terrifies me
BigRed Verified Member Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Mets seem to be talking with Cespedes on a below market contract just because he really wants to play there. So before anyone says "everyone knew" when it comes to Price, you just don't know until you give his agent a shout and see what type of discount (if at all) you will get from him. Since the front office refused to try it we would never know. Price was never going to give Toronto a serious discount -- he played here for 2.5 months. It's not like Toronto drafted and developed this guy and he played here for 8+ years as a hometown hero. When you factor in the weak Canadian dollar, the many holes the Jays had in the rotation and pen at the start of the offseason, and the fact that a team that could contend like the Red Sox were willing to massively outspend anyone for Price, you're borderline delusional if you think the Jays had even the smallest of chances to keep Price. He was a rental from the minute AA traded for him. Believing he was anything else was just wishful thinking.
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Maybe. Hard to say. How much does Edwin not want to go the Red Sox and how much would they overpay to sign him to replace Papi? Well that's up to Edwin and John Henry, I guess. I'm not sure how much Mr. Henry wants to commit to payroll but he will have three guys in their thirties making 72(ish) million and Porcello making north of twenty. Signing EE to a contract in the neighbourhood of 18/yr puts them at around 110 for 5 players. That's insane. Also if they introduce the DH in the NL in '17 there are probably 13-14 teams looking for a boba fife DH.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 You should take a look at BigCecil's posts. Unless you're content posting ineffectual things weakly related to what people post, trying to insult them. In that case have at it. I admire his courage and patience, but I'm not going to nicely debate every dumb point that gets thrown out by people who don't know any better.
Nafro Verified Member Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 So it turns out Aaron Sanchez's 25 pound weight gain is easy to explain. He just borrowed it from Colby Lewis. Though that would most certainly not make it 25 pounds of muscle.

Edwin at 18-20 wouldn't be a big change. That said, they may want to save $ at the DH position after their legendary DH retires.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Hopefully they need to save the DH for Hanley or that other fat ass Sandoval. Mike - you must have missed the annual "Sandoval has lost 25 lbs and is in the best shape of his life" report. I think I saw it this morning.

If they do sign EE they will easily be north of 200 with a few dead weight contracts

It wouldn't be a big change but I think as of right now, the way their roster is constructed they will most likely need to use the DH for Hanley and Pablo. It won't be long before they both become a huge liability on the field, and adding EE into that equation makes little sense. Although the thought of having Panda struggle to get to balks and Hanley failing wherever they put him makes me happy.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Not sure if the Jays are even looking for pen options that can't be sent down...but Carlos Torres just got designated for assignment. He'd be just $1M and his velocity just keeps going up. Groundball guy that would benefit from being away from the Mets butchers.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Torres looks like a great MRP option
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Rymer Liriano was DFA'd for some reason. He'd be a great pickup for us. Young outfielder with some upside.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Not enough TJS pitchers imo. Could use a couple extra Hultzens, who I hear is going to be phenomenal out of the bullpen.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Yeah, my farm is s***. I freely admit it. And yes I own Liriano (in more than one league), but that has nothing to do with why I'm suggesting we pick him up.

He always seemed screwed up on days he caught Dickey.

That means Thole is the backup catcher but I'm fine with that. Would be nice to have a veteran in Triple-A ready to fill in though incase of injury.

Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Blue Jays roster announcement coming today. Unless it was Donaldson accepting his award (which is not a roster announcement) I don't see anything. Where did you get this tidbit?
