glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Jays had to bring Dickey back. It's basically him and Stroman in the rotation at this point unless you want to guarantee Hutch a spot as well. Can't afford to lose those innings if the price is reasonable, and it is.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Even if he did come back I doubt he would ever sign in Toronto. He turned down over 20 million to go to Philly instead of NY because of his family so him going to a different country for $5 million seems very unlikely. He's 37 and he doesn't have a World Series ring. Last chance at WS > wife and kids

Last chance at WS > wife and kids How could you not want to pitch behind this offense? Price would probably have won 25 games if he was there the whole year. Lee has to be thinking about that.

Lee has to be thinking about that. If his arm has any chance of being healthy at some point in 2016, then he'll be a Blue Jay this winter. Might as well get your Cliff Lee jersey now.

So I can see why he would turn down their offer. She might be willing to give Canada a try for 1 year.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 If you disagree with Dickey being picked up, say so now. I bet there will be a bunch of second guessers next year when Dickey coughs up 7 runs in 2 innings.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Why aren't we going after Price again?? Don't we want to win a WS ? Considering Price would likely have his choice between a handful of teams on where he wants to play you can't bank on him resigning
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Average innings have value, lol. If they didn't pick up the option then they'd just have to buy innings in FA anyway. You can't get 200+ virtually guaranteed innings in free agency for that amount of money. Not a chance. 2+ WAR, 200+ innings of 4 ERA for 12 million... bargain every day of the week.

Unfortunately the Jays have no choice but to keep him, unless they can get 4 other starters to make Dickey expendable.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 2+ WAR, 200+ innings of 4 ERA for 12 million... bargain every day of the week. It's probably fair market value really and he's never posted > 2 WAR as a Blue Jay.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 If he was a conventional pitcher I'd have no problem with it but I have a hard time stomaching the personal catcher ********, inconsistency of the knuckleball and the general sideshow that is RA Dickey. I'm just a Dickey hater, whatever. yer dumn.

I bet there will be a bunch of second guessers next year when Dickey coughs up 7 runs in 2 innings. I've just never agreed with how the Jays weakened their 25 man roster in the past by rostering Josh Thole as Dickey's personal catcher, especially when you're not getting elite pitching results. Otherwise, I'm fine with Dickey. He's not the same pitcher who won the Cy Young in 2012 and I think most fans still expect those type of results in order to feel satisfied with him. I'm fully happy with Dickey giving the Blue Jays 200 + solid innings, low 3/high 4 ERA and around 2 WAR. He'll have his ups and downs, and thats expected with a knuckleballer.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Is it safe to assume that some of the same people who do not want Price signed, want Heyward signed for similar money? If so, how does that even make sense? Our biggest need is pitching, not OF help. And Price is a top 10 pitcher. Heyward is not a top 10 position player. Not even close.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Davidi As expected, #BlueJays exercise club options on Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and RA Dickey, decline option on Maicer Izturis So Tulo is staying

More risk with the older Price. Plus sign Heyward and move Tulo and EE for the pitching.

Heyward and Price's price tag are similar, news to me? Aren't they at a 10 million AAV apart?

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 So Tulo is staying For some reason the media thinks Tulo will be traded. Get the feeling Tulo really doesn't like Toronto and would rather live in the southern US, but at the same time you can't just trade him and go into the season with Ryan Goins as your starting SS.

I don't think Tulo gets traded. When Bautista or EE leave after 2016, his bat in the middle of the lineup will even be more important.

For some reason I think that's exactly what's going to happen. Dump Tulo's contract and hope for 2-2.5WAR from Goins.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Have I missed something about Tulo? Has he said he doesn't like Toronto? A lot of people keep saying he doesn't like it. He might not be into Toronto life the way Stro/Sanchez/Goins are, but that does not necessarily mean that he doesn't want to be here.
