Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 We have to admit it, arguably one of the worst umpires in the league had a fantastic strike zone tonight. He didn't let his ego take over, was consistent for both teams, and aside from one brutal non-call on a balk (which 5 other umpires missed SMH), no egregious calls. Cheers to you, Alfonso, you'll live to see another day.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Agreed, it's a good day when you don't really notice the umpire.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Yeah, barely thought of the ump all game, which is pretty amazing.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 The guy was amazing. Not once did any attention turn to him, it was like a robot was back there making the calls which is how it should be.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 and good on Harold Reynolds for pointing that out. I really enjoyed his analysis tonight, was right on about the Tolu homerun.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 There were maybe only two calls I thought were iffy.

Effit Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Take note umpires of MLB, watch tape of this game and learn how to do your job.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 You know someone is trolling when they post that Harold Reynolds was enjoyable. I think Reynolds probably mentioned that he likes Dogg's posts. I missed the game but I heard that Harold did his broadcast troll job on Jays fans. When will people see that's all he does. His job is get people talking about the broadcast.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I dont get the hate for the guy. All he said is that not too many people up north play baseball which is pretty true, most are occupied with Hockey, The guy praised the umpire, properly analyzed the Tolu homerun, and Chastized Gibby for putting Pillar to run home on contact with 1 out and Donaldson and Bautista on deck.

In no way did he blame Gibby for that, he criticized Pillar. Gibby was barking at Pillar after that play.

Hats of to Mr. Marquez, that's the greatest compliment you can get as an umpire.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 it was the best strike zone of the post season. Most games this post season have been horrifically bad. we need a big zone tomorrow though. lol who's up?

Just seems too many mistakes are falling through the cracks and I think the only way to rectify it is to broaden the scope of what a team can challenge. It may be tough to get everything right as an ump but it isn't tough to rectify a mistake when you have video replay.

Zacman Verified Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Video replay on balls and strikes!!!!!!! 6 hr games here we come! Agreed, but the technology for a roboump calling balls and strikes exists.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 All I ask for is a consistent zone. And that's all anyone wants. You may not agree with the zone but if it's consistent atleast the players can adjust to it. As for enhancing instant replay. First they need more cameras to make sure they get the right call. And all of these cameras should be viewable. I would like each decesion to be explained in a short video similar to what the NHL does on suspension. As for the strikezone. It seems like there is atleast one bad call every game on a called strikeout. Perhaps you can have one replay for that as well and if you win you receive another. I'm also tired of the plays that apparently aren't reviewable. If something is wrong get it right. It won't take as much time as people think.

LunchBox Verified Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 This should really be "The Jeff Bannister Appreciation Thread", Chi Chi Gonzales, really? In all seriousness though, it was refreshing to watch a well officiated game.

In all seriousness though, it was refreshing to watch a well officiated game. It wasn't so much Chi Chi as it was Chi Chi pitching to Tulo in that situation. Bad decision. Marquez had a solid consistent zone last night and that's all you can ask for. Little complaining from either team who seemed relieved after the Vic show in game 2.

Gonzalez is a terrible pitcher that has no business being in a close playoff game. I hope we see him again.

Chi Chi sucks but pitching to Tulo in that situation sucks even more.
