jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 We need to find ways to shut DeSheilds and Odor down. Outside of them, the rest of the Rangers lineup has been lousy... those two are single-handedly threatening to win this series vs. the Rangers. Odor's scored 5 times this series, DeShields 3.. they've accounted for the majority of their offense. We have Perez and maybe Holland next.. hopefully that sparks our offense.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I've slept on it...and left it behind. I'm a Leafs fan too...and I don't want this to be our Kerry Fraser. Here's the bottom line. Our Jays are in a slump. It happens to every team throughout any season...and it just so happens that the timing of this one is horrible. When you're on a roll, everything is going your way and you're winning games you shouldn't. And when it's not...you catch no breaks at all. We're seen what this team can do. Historically good offense. A ridiculous run since July 31st. We've seen great starting pitching...we've seen tremendous bullpen performances. The pieces are all here. The only question is, can they find themselves tomorrow and start righting the ship. The Jays blew a 3-1 series lead in '85. The blew a 3.5 game lead with 7 games left in '87. In 1989, after the 12-24 start, they had the best record in the AL the rest of the season (yes...that includes Oakland)...and Oakland still beat them 4-1 in the ALCS. In 1991, they were clearly better than the Twins on paper and yet they still lost in the ALCS. Winning a short series is hard. 1992, it was looking rough against Oakland, until Robbie's homer off Eck. In the same year, the Jays almost went to 0-2 to the Braves, if it wasn't for Sprague's homer off Jeff Reardon in the 9th. Let's see how this team handles adversity. Regardless of how it turns out, I'm proud of the team. They overcame a huge deficit against the Yankees and poured it on. I think this is something we can build on over the next few seasons and I'm excited when I look at it that way. And in 1993 ALCS, we also went up 2-0 vs. the White Sox on the road, then proceeded to put up two stinkers at home to even the series. Even though we ended up winning that series the point is that we blew what looked to be a comfortable lead... so it can happen at any time at this level really, both in our and their favour. 3-0 down in a 7 game series would be different (and even that's not a sure thing), but 2-0 deficit is definitely not insurmountable.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 The Jays are still +240 to win the series, that equals a 29.4% chance. Obviously there is juice there but those odds should keep fans optimistic. Perez is garbage and Price will be used Monday if they get there.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 wtf.... rogers can't afford to get a solid artist in to sing the anthem? I don't get why they didn't just use the same person who sang the American anthem. For some reason they really like to get the crowd to sing.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Were you in 510? "PAY ATTENTION TO THE GAME. f*** THE WAVE!!" No, 243. There were a ton of idiots on Thursday but it was mostly better on Friday. Well, aside from those that were trying to get a "rehab" chant going toward Hamilton, which was honestly just disgusting.

Probably went to 10 games last season and the majority of people there are actually into the game and seem to be actual basketball fans.

All they have to do is rope off 30,000 seats and sell out at 18,000, double the price of tickets and they'd be like the ACC. if you want 48,000 fans at a game you are going to get some nut jobs.

Basketball is a much higher paced sport, and really you only need to know like 4 or 5 of the guys who play the majority of the game. I'm sure 95%+ of the people in yesterday's game were aware of who Donaldson, Bautista and Stroman were. Baseball is also a more complex sport to follow (IMO), there's many people watching who might not understand why a foul ball with two strikes does not mean strike 3, let alone any of the more complicated aspects of the game. Because of the difference in pace, people also tend to find baseball boring, and as such won't put in the required time to understand it.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 The Blue Jays are much more popular than the Raptors and tv ratings suggest that as well. Infact the CFL have better TV ratings than the Raptors. The Blue Jays challenge hockey night in Canada especially after the Tulo trade. Blue Jays are a strong #2 in Toronto and always will be. Tons of Baseball fans in this city. Even when the team is struggling a sold out Raptors game would be a graveyard game in the Rogers Centre. You ask most people they watch hockey in the winter time and Baseball in the summertime.

I love hockey and hoops, but baseball is the only sport I pay to see live. I can just as soon download other sports and watch the next day most of the year, but I will stay up all night and watch live baseball any time the jays are playing.

I'm a Raptors fan and I grew up playing Basketball over hockey so I have been a fan since day 1. But I know its popularity in Canada overal is not that great although improving. In Toronto and the GTA its getting pretty huge but right now outside of huge games. Curling, CFL, even the Pan-Am Games this summer outdrew the Raptors. Raptors are with auto racing in terms in popularity which is crazy but sadly true.

Raps need a long playoff run to bring in the rest of the country. all in all there are just too many sports vying for the $.
