Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I am not biased against Astros specifically; but I feel it to be such a pompous declaration. And looks retarded when that HR means nothing (i.e. in a loss).
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 To add to that whats the difference between that then a pitcher pumping his fist after getting out of an inning in a huge spot late in the game? If you want to eliminate all emotion of the game then you might as well have a bunch of robots playing the game.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Both Rasmus and Gomez did it, like they were challenged to hit a HR or something. I wanted Yankees to win and punch Rasmus' face after I saw that. Freakin... such lack of class. Yeah wanting to punch someone for showing emotion after doing something well in a game, that's all class right there.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I wish it was back in the good old days when Ty Cobb would kick people in the face and Babe Ruth would point to CF and hit a hr there right after. Baseball used to be so classy.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Seriously..why do people want baseball player's to act like Robots. The game needs more Yasiel Puigs, Marcos Stromans and Jobe Chamberlins Joba? Lol
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Joba? Lol lol yes Joba. Used to find it quite funny that his fist bumps would get under the skin of many
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 There's a difference been feeling emotional and pumped up at your success and showing off to your opponents. Fist pumps? High Fives? Emphatic "YEA"s? Hands up in the air? Thanking God? Those are all in the former category. Those were just the top of my head; I am sure you can scour more playoff HRs where the batters weren't f***ing pompous as hell. Both of them showed emotion, both of them showed happiness and how f***ing excited they were at doing something awesome. Did they bat flip at the opponent's dug out? That is just not a class act. That's pretty much, to say, if the f***ing pitcher that got out of an inning, pointed at opponent's dugout with their glove and scanned the dugout with their arm, like a firing line. If they ACTUALLY challenged you, such as, trying to hit you while pitching, or joking about you in their dugout, or undermining your team, then sure.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 If you don't want a guy to pimp, don't let him have a reason to. If the other team doesn't want you to pimp, they better not let you have a reason to.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Celebrating a home run = not acceptable Throwing a lethal projectile at him to retaliate = acceptable
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I can't imagine watching Gomez's happy reaction to a huge home run and being upset about it. It's a game. Last night in particular was a huge game. Let them have fun.

Literally the ONLY sport where players don't celebrate after scoring. Who gives a f*** if the player flips his bat? Maybe if the pitcher threw better, he wouldn't have to worry about the other team "showing him up"

Maybe the pitcher should blame himself instead of getting angry at his opponents for being happy.

Governator Community Moderator Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I love bat flips or any hitter who gets excited after hitting a bomb, I can't stand those with problems with it. As a kid I use to reenact the Alomar tieing home run all the time, throwing my arms straight up after a swing, thinking to myself 'Oh yea bitches, I just did that.'

Everyone says if you hit a homerun put your head down and run. In hockey you have a celebration right in front of the goalie if you score or football or soccer but baseball is where they draw the line. f*** talk about Buzz Killington:

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 All the majors sports have a "code" about what constitutes acceptable or non-acceptable celebration. I'm not so sure that baseball is really all that different. I don't really watch football anymore but the NFL used to be a lot worse than baseball on this by actually enforcing unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and the like. At least baseball has the sense to just let this between the players and doesn't hand out sanctioned reprimands for it.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I have a simple reaction to the celebration issue: I am ok with it when I my team does it because I am happy. I am pissed off when someone does it to us because I am sad/angry = normal Bi-polar sports fan. Seriously though....its the norm now and I don't mind it either way as long as its not too over the top.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Your dumn. I don't particularly care, 'cause this is the internet; but was that comment necessary? I assume forums are to share opinions and have discussions about them. I shared my opinion, not sure why finding something not-classy (albeit I am in general okay with homerun celebrations that have nothing to do with bat flipping the opponent's dugout, and mind you nor am I a yankee sympathizer) is a parameter for evaluating intelligence. I have not gone personal about it, and yet here's an insult as if Rasmus was your kindred and I offended you by indicating what he did was borderline meh. Also I am not archaic, 25 years old; so I am not sure what the norm has been since the inception of the game itself. Baseball is so ass-backwards sometimes... Literally the ONLY sport where players don't celebrate after scoring. Who gives a f*** if the player flips his bat? Maybe if the pitcher threw better, he wouldn't have to worry about the other team "showing him up" I am not saying "don't celebrate after scoring", I am saying "why be such a pompous prick doing it". What isn't going into the dugout, cheering out of your mind and doing all these ridiculous dances enough? Or rounding the bases in a slow, deliberate fashion, high-fiving your coaches and sending flying recognition kisses to your fans too small of a show? I mean Rasmus did all of that. I guess he needs to celebrate more, might as well go piss on the Empire State Building, cause yolo! I hit a HR!

And to add to it, it's no different than if a pitcher pointed at the ball after a strikeout yelling "Shooter!!" like Shooter McGavin. Celebration is fine; I have no issue with Robbie Alomar raising his hands or a pitcher pumping his fist. There's something about bat-flipping though... it is not a natural celebration, it is an in-your-face celebration, a f***-you celebration. I bat-flipped this summer one time but only because I hated the opponent and wanted them to feel disrespected. Kinda like how Bautista always does it with the Orioles. Granted not every bat flip is meant to be disrespectful, but mehh.. it still comes off that way every time. Gomez should get plunked next year. Rasmus was more subtle and probably gets a pass just because you can't plunk everyone. If this keeps up, we're all going to start bat flipping like Koreans: http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--iZOZCRWU--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/1209137568151834001.gif

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 How is a bat flip any different than when Rodney used to do his arrow shot after every save?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 How is a bat flip any different than when Rodney used to do his arrow shot after every save? Not a good example he really is a Douche, But relief pitchers jumping and fist pumping after striking out a hitter with bases loaded or tying run on 3rd to get out of an inning. I mean if a little flick of the wrist bothers you then you have to chastise anyone who walks out of the batters box after a Bomb or A pitcher getting pumped up on the mound after a DP or a strike out. Basically you can't choose one over the other.
