John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Daniel Perez slashing .292/420/.882 in the DSL. Legitimate prospect? .882 is the OPS and he's 21. I wouldn't put any labels on him yet other than... who knows? Wasn't a top 50 international ranking, but came out of Cuba.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 (edited) Barger heating up nicely in July .292/.387/.538/.925 in 65 AB (75 PA) 3 HR, 7 doubles. 10 walks, 14 K Davis Schneider also at another level in July .294/.507/.588/1.095 51 AB (72 PA) 21 walks, 14 K, 3 doubles 4 HR And then there's Horwitz in July ... .417/.493/.767/1.260 60 AB (71 PA) 11 walks, 9 K, 5 HR, 4 doubles, 1 triple. Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Orelvis off to a slow start in AAA. That seems to be his MO when moving up a level though...

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 K rate isn't spiking though so that's a good indicator. Yeah I noticed that and am more concerned with his K/BB % and his hard hit % than the rest. BABIP comes and goes.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 with Orelvis, the BABIP typically just goes... He seemed to change that, this season, after his 1st month. Maybe he flattened his swing a bit?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 He seemed to change that, this season, after his 1st month. Maybe he flattened his swing a bit? I havent seen much change to his swing other than it's a little more controlled with better swing decisions. He still wants to murder every ball that comes his way but he's laying off the ones that give him bad results far more often.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I think Orelvis is currently the 3rd youngest player in AAA right now?
metafour Verified Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Orelvis just cleared the bases with a double, after already hitting a line drive single earlier in the inning. He's 2 for 3 with 4 RBI.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Bloop double that fell in cause AAA fielders are s***. Aka the Bellinger Special.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Aka the Bellinger Special. Is 140 wRC+ good?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Is 140 wRC+ good? Like clockwork all you have to do is mention the name Bellinger and his simps will come running to his defense. It's like the movie Beetlejuice, only Beetlejuice had better hygiene and wasn't as big of a degenerate as some of these Bellinger Fanboys are.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Davis Schneider just homered again lol (#20). He is 2 for 2 with a BB.

You can call me whatever makes you feel better, but I’m not the one copying and pasting xwoba values or pitch usages all day long in July

The BABIP definitely went way up after that 1st month or so. Something Vladdy should be doing as well for that matter.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 He just hit a double lol. Sadly another blooper lol
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Maybe Davis Scheneider can get a call up when his OPS hits .1000. Absolutely criminal he hasn’t been given a chance.

I guess the only thing really holding him back would be the lack of clear playing time. Like, you really wouldnt want to call him up to be a bench guy... Merrifield has seized the everyday utility role, and nobody is hurt. Is Schneider all that useful taking 10 ABs per week? Maybe the only clear path to playing time is them putting Merrifield in LF consistently, shifting Varsho to the bench and starting Schneider at 2b every day.

But Espinal and Biggio are a couple of guys who have been dudes for us in the past <<<< Schneider the puppets response

Why?

He should be playing LF over Varsho and 2B over Espinal and Biggio. Merrifield is not impacted by this. I feel those 3 have not been getting the job done for several months and its time to see if an internal option can provide some offense to those positions.

I saw this today: This only reinforces my suggestion to do what you said, basically. Start Merrifield in LF and bring Varsho in as the defensive replacement every day in the 7th (and start Varsho only twice a week). This way you take advantage of Varsho's D and apparent late inning prowess (guessing the fact that he's a good FB hitter and late inning relievers mostly throw FBs plays a part).
