Juan Soto 2/2 with his 3rd HR and two walks. Now slashing 364/423/864.

Last year I said that I liked him better than Robles for some reason. Might not turn out to be so dumb

Different kinds of players, but I don't think it's dumb. The bat looks like it's going to be special.

Bichette 2-5 (2 singles) and 1K

5 multi-hit games in a row

Batting .393 now as well. If Bichette chases .400 again this season, it will be time to bump his hit tool from 70 to 75. Damn, I can't wait to watch them in Toronto!

Nope. Hit tool is currently a 30 and a future 50

Yeah.. I give zero credibility to scouty types like Kiley these days..

Place much more stock in BA:

Baseball America’s tool rankings on Bo:

Hit: 70 | Power: 60 | Speed: 50 | Fielding: 45 | Arm: 60

Bo's going to be legit offensively--just hope his defense is better than his father Dante Bichette (think Steve Pearce bad in the OF).

It's not humanly possible to be as bad as Dante in the OF. In 1999 he hit 34 bombs with a .298/.354/.541 slash line and posted a fWAR of... -2.1. League and park factors made the slash line worth just a 100 wRC+, and he paired that with a negative 40.6 def rating (!!!).

So yeah, no chance Bo is that anywhere near that bad.

Scouts believe he could be above average defensively at second base. But hes been proving he doesn't need to move off of Shortstop. He has plenty of arm to play SS as well. He may end up at third when all is said and done. I really do believe he will begin his career playing Shortstop for us. And that could be sooner rather than later.

Dante had a great arm though.

It may depend on our organization's philosophy on the matter. More and more teams are willing to give up some defense to put stud hitters are premier defensive positions. Bogaerts and Correa are good examples.

Bichette can play an average to passable SS and I expect average to above average 2B. I'd like to see him get some reps in the OF, he has speed and a decent arm.

A guy that can hit like Bichette and play multiple positions is extremely valuable

Damn. He's not long for the Sally.

A quick perusal of Soto's career wRC+ column makes me turgid. Dominican Bryce Harper, indeed.

BTS here's some BP Soto content from today. Apparently they would have put him Top 10 in beisbol if he was healthy?

Game Recap

Juan Soto, OF, Washington Nationals (Low-A Hagerstown): 3-3, 2 BB, 2 R, 2B, HR, 6 RBI.

Literally the only thing keeping Soto from taking “the leap” up until now has been health, as he missed most of last year with a litany of injuries. He has absolutely crushed the ball at every turn when healthy, however, and it off to a blazing start in the Sally – a place he figures to call home for a very limited portion of the season.

Sally Preview

The single-best prospect in this league this year is Juan Soto (no. 2 in the system/no. 22 overall), who is both only here and only not in the global top 10 because of an injury-plagued 2017. Soto possesses some of the best hitting ability in the minors at any level, and he might not be in the Sally for very long if healthy.

So he's basically comparable to Vlad at the plate, anyone see reports on his OF D?

Two short reports on D:

On defense, Soto looks comfortable roaming the outfield. He is quick but not especially fast, typically taking consistent and efficient routes to fly balls. He has a solid arm, but not a prototypical right-field arm, and could end up in left as he climbs the ladder.

Defensively is not where Soto makes his name as a prospect, as his average speed and athleticism, along with fringe-average arm, allows him to play a reasonable but unexceptional right field. As he matures and receives additional game experience, I could envision his arm getting to average, as well as his overall defense in right field. However, if he loses much speed or range as he ages, he could profile better long-term in left field, where he would project as average or slightly better.

Juan Soto continues to make a mockery of A ball at 19.

4 PA, a triple, 2 BBs, SB

The pitchers probably starting to give him nothing to hit

Everybody, pull it out of your pants!

PHM

2:47 Approximately many major leaguers have the offensive abilities that Guerrero Jr. possesses and what are his weaknesses with the bat? Untapped power? None? Thanks!

Eric A Longenhagen

2:48 There are some apples/oranges comparisons (like I don't know how you compare the way Joey Votto does it to anything, or Altuve) but jsut glancing at last year's hitters War leaderboard I got maybe 12 names deep before I started thinking Vlad is just more talented than this guy.

Not even top 10 yet? Bust...

P2F: Thanks for taking my question, Eric. Are you able to supply some scout-y notes on Tobias Myers, please? I know he is a guy that you and Kiley like. How is his stuff? Realistic ceiling? Thanks in advance.

Eric A Longenhagen: Here’s his capsule for the Rays list, which will be on the site tomorrow or Monday if Carson is overrun.:

Eric A Longenhagen: Myers was acquired from Baltimore ahead of the 2017 trade deadline for Tim Beckham. He was a two-way player in high school who some teams preferred at shortstop, but early-career indications are that Baltimore was correct to stick him on the mound as Myers dominated the New York Penn League last year ahead of the trade and has already grown into mid-rotation stuff. Myers sits 92-94, touches 97, and it plays up due to good extension. His curveball and changeup each flash plus but are closer to average right now but they both project due to Myers’ athleticism. He’s a 6-foot righty but his vertical arm slot creates downhill plane on his pitches and he’s sturdily built, so his size is not concerning. He has mid-rotation upside and will pitch in full-season ball as a teenager all year.
