Over the top delivery as advertised. Touches 96. One K which was clearly on a splitter/changeup type pitch, one on the fastball, and another on a pitch that was harder to tell. 85 with big drop, slider maybe? Could also be an overpronated splitter that hung somewhat, as the camera angle makes it look like it runs arm side.

It must have been the splitter

Rainer Nunez

If only he didn't have Guerrero-itis. Man is a certified worm killer, 53% GB rate at AA last season, hasn't run an ISO above .200 (as a 1B only guy) since the complex league in 2021.

He's already on the Rays future minor league free agent shopping list

News on Barriera...

Barriera (elbow) is targeting a return to game action by late May or early June, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

A first-round pick in 2022, Barriera underwent a hybrid Tommy John/internal brace procedure on his elbow in April 2024, and arm issues have limited him to just 23.2 innings since he made his pro debut. The 21-year-old southpaw was touching 97 mph with his fastball prior to last year's surgery however, and if he can stay healthy he's still young enough to begin re-establishing his status as a prospect. Barriera's multiple rehabs have also had the side benefit of re-shaping his body. "This is about as good physically as he's looked since we've had him," Blue Jays director of player development Joe Sclafani said toward the end of spring training. "Obviously, he got bigger and then tapered it back. Physically, he's in a really good spot. Mentally, he's in a really good spot. He's trending in a really good direction. We're excited."

"Multiple scouts I spoke with have everyday grades on Roden based on their looks this spring."

oh boy

Ross pulled a 50 FV top 100 spect out of his ass

Ross knew what he was doing when he uncharacteristically called out Roden by name at the beginning of Spring. Got his name out to the rest of the baseball world that this was a guy to watch out for, and Roden delivered in a big way. Elite self marketing.

I mean we don't have a real sample size yet, but in 38 PA, 4 walks, 8Ks .983 OPS.  That's exactly the start you were hoping for from Nimmala.  I made a point of looking at old Bo Bichette pictures from when he was 19.  Like Nimmala just turned 19 last fall. There's no comparison.  Nimmala is much more physically mature than Bo was at that age.  That means he's got the chance to be quick to the majors.  Bo hit the MLB at 21.  I honestly think Nimmala can be here next year in his age 20 season.  If his OPS is still .over 900 a month from now send him to AA and see how he does there.

Dude has the tools and profile to be Carlos Correa. That goes for general player profile and trajectory.

Correa:
2014, 19 y.o., 62 games in A+
2015, 20 y.o., 24 games in AA, 29 in AAA, 99 in MLB, 4.7 WAR, ROY

There is a very low chance Toronto is that aggressive with Arjun but a 2027 debut at 21 years old is somewhat realistic. I guess a 2026 debut is possible but he would have to just ball out and never look back.

That's probably more realistic, but 2 more doubles last night.  .985 OPS so far at high A.  No reason not to push the envelope and progress him through the minors if he keeps balling!

Nimmala projects really well with the bat. Will his SS defence play in the MLB or will he play third right away? Does his overall performance this year have any bearing on whether or not management is aggressive (or not) in extending or resigning Bo?

He has a chance to be a shortstop, from all reports. Hard to tell but it sounds like he could be an average shortstop if things work out.

It might have a thing or two to do with Bo. But any Bo extension presumes he's a 2B or 3B around 30 years old, anyway.

Bo doesn't have the arm for 3B.  Nimmala has a 60 grade arm.

Bo at 2B, Nimmala at 3B, and Gimenez at SS would be the ideal arrangement for 2027, considering internal options and assuming Bo resigns with an agreement to be the 2B going forward.

Kasevich might be the best defensive SS in the org, and could eek out a MLB career similar to Berti.
