Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 It seriously sounds like this guy needs to revamp his swing. It appears as though there is plenty of juice in the bat but his launch angle is completely ****ed at 2.8 degrees. leading to a flyball rate of only 17.3%. Oh man dude, where'd you read about this? Ughh... I was getting a chubb on the new write up.

The silver lining there is that it can be fixed

You can find AAA Statcast numbers really easily in Fangraphs now. It appears as though his power numbers have been improving during his AAA stint so at least there's hope of a useful bat at the major league level.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Seems like this thread should be moved over to the minor league section. Anyway, mlb.com posted an article titled "Each team's prospect whose stock improved most in '24" and ours was Jake Bloss. Ranked No. 11 in the Astros system to begin 2024, the 2023 third-rounder out of Georgetown climbed from High-A Asheville all the way to the Majors in his first full season by showcasing three above-average pitches out of the gate. Sure, his breakout came in the Houston organization, but the Blue Jays will get to reap the rewards after acquiring Bloss in a Deadline move for rental arm Yusei Kikuchi. The right-hander made eight starts for Triple-A Buffalo after the trade and will try to work his way into the Toronto rotation next spring. https://www.mlb.com/news/each-team-s-prospect-whose-stock-improved-most-2024

I honestly think this is the approach we need to take so we can spend every other cent on bats and 1 closer. The Burnes talk is us putting all our eggs in the starters basket while ignoring the rest of the team.

And it's been noted that he's a payroll oddity, in which that likely moves payroll parameters or some **** like that.

It's just so weird man... if we had that money, we could literally plug all our holes and be super competitive this upcoming season.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 I said the same thing about the around baseball thread. This should be in the main forum. Subforums do not work for the people that use this to discuss Blue Jays. This thread will never be used.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 C'mon Grant, don't be that guy, man...

There will actually be pretty nice depth in there with some upside with Yariel/Bloss. Manoah will be a late season wildcard - I believe he's expected back late season in Aug/Sept.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 Is Tiedemann going to be ready for the start of the season? I also wonder about Barierra and Maroudis too. What a s*** kicking our high end SP prospects took last year.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 I still think Jim's idea of a "no sub-forums" toggle for users was genius. Make the display optional. If toggled on, all threads in every subforum just get listed by latest activity. I wonder if that is possible.

I appreciate the optimism - very little of that around here these days, but I think it's safe to say Manoah is dead. I also consider Ricky T to be dead. The fail rate is just so high to start with - when you add in the Jays factor, it's tough to do much more than expect they are dead until proven otherwise.

Why on earth would Manoah be "dead"? He had his 2023 season largely ruined by an offseason shoulder injury. He was looking much better early on during the 2024 before the elbow issue popped up. I'd at least see how he bounces back from the rehabilitation before making any kind of long term determination on his future prospects.

But he seems delusional... “I mean, I don’t want to overstimulate, 'cause obviously these rehabs are so long for a reason. Like you said, there could be bumps in the road, there could be a bump right now that I don’t see coming," said Manoah. "But that is something that, every morning when I wake up, my alarm goes off every morning, I tell myself, This is what we’re doing it for. It’s to go win a World Series next year, it’s to go be a deadline acquisition for the Toronto Blue Jays."

Alek is certainly optimistic to say the least if he expects the team to contend for anything based on how it's presently constructed.

That article misses the caveat of Manoah saying we extend Vlad and add this winter as well in that interview with Wilner, it's just really lip service to what he hopes happens, being positive. max silver 1

WryNGinger Verified Member Posted January 9, 2025 Posted January 9, 2025 Sucks we lost Danner. I liked him and hoped he got a chance with the big league team. From a catching prospect to pitching was an interesting back-story to keep an eye on.

He went from a catcher to a pitcher and then had some injury issues but he looks like his stuff plays. He seems like a player you roll the dice on instead of cutting loose given the voodoo volitivity of relievers. A cheap limited risk guy. Spanky__99 and BatFlip 2
