Charles McAdoo going off again in game 1 of a double-header:

3 for 4, 2 2B, Oppo-HR, BB

When a guy just hits at every level, and has never been old for his level either it's worth noticing for sure. He's been ridiculous since the slow start, and that can be expected when you get traded initially.

We've had him playing at 3B and 1B primarily with a single start in RF. Pirates also basically just had at 3B with a few starts in RF.

Mostly a second baseman in college, McAdoo has good hands and decent arm strength that give him the chance to stick on the dirt, and he exceeded expectations at third this season. He likely is better suited for first or a corner outfield spot when all is said and done, but it’s his bat that has helped him raise his profile.

He's going to be interesting next year in AAA.

Nice list of players

The combo of his fly ball rate and k-rate is much worse than the other two and I bet he still projects as a .190 hitter in the majors. Look at how hard it's been for Daulton Varsho to overcome sky high pop up rate... look at how long Orelvis struggled at higher levels (though some of that may have been because he was taking women's hormones trying to start a family).

I guess the good news is that by the time Nimmalla makes it to the majors, .190 will be the major league average. And Daulton Varsho believe it or not, despite all his problems, is a league average hitter this year.

Lazaro Estrada looks like he’s flying though the levels this year: He has a 2.63 ERA in 19 starts accross A/A+/AAA with a nice K-rate

He's old as f*** I would hope so.

No doubt. Lost some time with injury, but even if he shows up at 27 on the roster as a pen arm that doesn't suck, ...cool.

The dude is 25 years old, it's not like he's a 35 year old journeyman.

I mean he's 25 years old with 40 innings above A+ in 6 years with the org, it's reasonable to be skeptical that he's anything more than a journeyman. Would be interesting to know if there's anything to the stuff, as it's worrisome how slowly the org has progressed him through the system given he's been around since 2018 with always pretty decent performance. Always injured, poor stuff that would get figured out at higher levels? Did he revamp his body and stuff this past offseason in a lab and it's paying dividends?

I'd like to read more about him as well as he seems to be an under the radar success story this season. He barely pitched from 2020-2022 only pitching about a total of 38 innings across those 3 seasons. He likely maxes out as a multiple inning reliever or something of that sort but he's had quite a bit of success this season out of the rotation for a minor league system that's had very little success developing starters.

Marc Hulet normally has pretty good insight into Jays prospects. This is what he wrote about Lazaro Estrada today:

I absolutely think Estrada will be a big league pitcher... and should be protected from MiLB FA/Rule 5. But he's a (smallish) two pitch pitcher and relies on the FB 80-90% so he's very likely a reliever long term. But his two pitches have great characteristics and grade out excellent under the STUFF rankings.

Oh yeah, and this was the HR:

Alan Roden figuring it out at AAA after a really tough start to the level. OPS up to.850

Got see him over the likes of Stewart Berrora down the stretch. No idea why he is even on the current team.

Same reason as all the other Buffalo players, auditions. They could do worse than having a switch hitting back-up CF with plus plus speed on the bench. Even with his garbage bat so far he's a positive contributor thanks to defense and baserunning.

That said, he does need to show more with the stick than he has. Needs the wRC+ to be minimum ~80-85, 55 so far.

There's limited AB to go around in the outfield already between Varsho/Springer/Loperfido/Schneider so it might be better to keep Roden in AAA playing every day so he's not primarily sitting on the bench.

They are giving Loperfido a long look in LF, and JS would probably quit before he benches Springer, so I don’t think there would be much opportunity for Roden barring injury. Roden doing well is certainly a good thing though.

He's also not on the 40 man, so they'd have to DFA someone. Not that they couldn't find a reliever to turf easily enough, just sayin.

Guessing Roden only plays LF/RF/DH? Things are starting to get crowded with LHH outfielders

Alan Roden since July 25th:

.400/.475/.624 (184 wRC+) with a 13.1% BB-rate and a 12.1% K-rate. .224 ISO as well.

Also .817 OPS against LHP

I know last season they were shielding him against lefties, but seems like they're keen on seeing how he fares against them this year. Would be super exciting if he can pan out as an everyday guy

The club suddenly has a wealth of young outfielders. Two spots for next season are seemingly locked down with Varsho in center field and Springer in right so it will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. I think Loperfido has a shot to become 4th outfielder and Barger a shot to be a super utility type. Maybe Barger and Vlad could largely split time at third base next season. Roden's breakout in AAA complicates things a bit, if he continues he is starting to look more and more like a potential every day player candidate as soon as next season, but having said that the team would really benefit by adding a big bat to the roster to man a corner outfield spot.

Roden must be Rule 5 eligible this offseason right?

Yeah a quick look at the rules seems to indicate that to be the case.

Players who signed at age 19 or older need to be protected within four seasons.

This is Roden's 4th season in the minors with the club. He's a total non-brainer guy to protect as he's the most likely of the current crop to develop into a full time player. He's reported to have a strong arm and run solid routes so he could eventually become the heir apparent to replace Springer in right field, although the recent success of Barger at the plate shows he may also factor in.

Says December 2025 here, for when he'll be R5 eligible

If that's the case then there's no rush at all on him. Did the Covid thing grant an extra year of control for all those kids?

Roden wasn't drafted until 2022 so the Covid year shouldn't factor in.

Adrian Pinto

Had some serious rib injury in spring and did not get activated in Vancouver until August 6th. Since then:

.372/.413/.698

10 games 46 PA

only 4 Ks

Will only be 22 next year in AA

Also seems to have nuked A+ after a promotion at the beginning of August. Just turned 21 4 days ago. 141 wRC+ in A ball and has continued that in A+.

That's some insane power output for his size. Altuve esque, and even he didn't show this kind of power in the minors.

Gilberto Batista (Jansen trade) has had two good appearances for Dunedin. Seems to have a decent changeup and enough velo for now considering his age. Touching 94/95 sitting 92.9. Would probably need to add a bit more velo to be viable.
