Zulueta hasn't started a game in his last four appearances. His last two have only been an inning a piece. Is the plan to make him a reliever?

Kloffenstein today: 6IP, 6H, 1ER, 2BB, 5K. Drops his season ERA in AA to 2.20.

One of the only good stories on the farm

He has gone from somebody not even on the depth chart to one of the more interesting call up candidates

Have not been paying super close attention so far this year, but having done a run through on each Jays affiliate, this has got to be the most depressing start to a minor league season in recent history? Tiedemann aside there's maybe a couple of guys having ok seasons. Horowitz and Palmegiani and outside of that it's complete misery out there.

Barger, Barriera, Jimenez, Lopez, Toman, Doughty, Kasevich, Zulueta, Robberse, Martinez (Gabriel and Orelvis), Santos, Dasan Brown, Macko. Practically every single name you could have considered in the top 20 Jays prospects are having anemic seasons. A couple of guys like Barriera are on small sample sizes, but it's crazy how there's practically no one you can point to that's impressing.

What is going on with the development? Another year of having one guy on the top 100 lists bodes poorly for the future. Especially when we're going to need to fill OF positions, and probably 3B.

It only looks bad when you compare to the Baltimore system with everyone hitting .320 .420 .600 except Jackson Holliday who is hitting about .390 .500 .700.

A lot of our guys are doing something. Like Kasevich, Roden, Horowitz, are all hitting .300 and getting on base at a very good rate and have good k/bb but no power, hopefully that is no power 'yet'.

Toman is Jackson Holliday light. Very light. Teenage short stop with power, walks and is doing fine for now. Hope is he develops a bit and gets better. Have to wait and see.

Also they are building a lot of character. When Orelvis Martinez has a slump like Varsho is right now, it will actually seem like a hot streak to him compared to how he hit in the minors.

Isn't he basically a soft tosser at this point? 90-92 guy?

yeahhhhh but there is a lot of wiggle room in that bucket

he could sit 91 but touch 94/95 on occasion with good shape and have an effective fastball. particularly if he only has to throw is 40% of the time because the secondary pitches are plus.

yeah, that might not be a ceiling higher than an SP5 but Toronto will take any kind of MLB projection from him at this point

Sits low 90s and touches 95. Apparently was pitching in the high 90s during covid year workouts but hasn't shown up in games. His slider seems to be the true weapon.

He's one of quite a few arms popping up in the system, who at least are looking like future MLB depth, if lacking the highest of upside.

Some interesting relievers at AA now putting up solid numbers.

Burnette / 17.12 K/9 / 2.96 xFIP

Cooke / 18.26 K/9 / 1.95 xFIP

Danner / 17.10 K/9 / 1.55 xFIP

Not sure about Burnette, but Cooke and Danner both reportedly hit high 90's

Think you're mixing in Cooke's A+ and Danner's A ball rehab in their numbers. That's not to say they aren't promising pen arms down there, and I'm glad you pointed out Burnette, just that at least for Cooke most of his performance (and success, he just got rocked in his first taste of AA) has come at a lower level.

I believe he's mid-90s from what I can find on Google.

We saw him make a couple of TV appearances in Spring. He was mid 90s, sitting 94 t-96 from what I can remember, maybe hit 97 once.

Thanks, that checks out with everything I read too. Not bad, if he's missing that many bats, it's likely due to nice secondaries rather than the FB, so could still be lethal.

I mean mid 90s from a lefty would be comfortably above average, so it could definitely be that the fastball is by itself a very good pitch. Tim Mayza is a one pitch sinkerballer who averages what I imagine Jimmy Burnette averages on his fastball, and he has a career K/9 of 9.66, although he did use to throw a lot more sliders early in his career.

Yeah Cooke has two appearances so far in AA.

In the first one he gave up 2 hits, unfortunately the 2nd hit was a two run homer. And in the 2nd appearance he had two walks which is never ideal obviously. He does have 4 K's out of the 6 outs recorded, so not completely terrible. Will be interesting to follow here for the next bit.

NH game starting in a few mins after getting rained out last night, Robberse on the bump

That's some really good exit velo, and he hit it opposite field as well.

Looks like he was a high school pick from 2017. Had pretty unspectacular years in the minors until 2021 when he started putting up .800+ OPS's. Pretty good combined slashline in the minors though. Still only 24.

I don't know what Otto Lopez's deal is but he started off extremely slow last year as well as this year. But just like last year he seems to be turning it around.

2022 slashline by month:

April- .050/.136/.050

May- .221//.361/.368

June- .273/.298/.382

July- .299/.386/.494

August- .387/.432./.453

September- .291/.391/.327

2023:

April- .160/.203/.240

May- .296/.361/.296

And he plays 2nd/3rd and LF, nice.

Bowden Francis starts for Buffalo tonight. If he has a good start he needs to swap places with Manoah. It lines up perfectly.

He can bring Horwitz with him and Biggio can hitch a ride with Manoah to Buffalo.

Damn, just when Biggio is getting hot.... his last 15 PAs have been actually useful.

Bowden Francis was dealing for Buffalo tonight in his first start back from the IL (he threw 3 innings in Dunedin last week on a rehab assignment).

4 innings pitched, 7 Ks, 1 BB, 2 hits and 0 ER. 56 pitches and 38 of them strikes. Call him up and send Manoah down.

And screw giving an IL designation to Manoah for a phantom injury. The dude has been complete ass and deserves the option and a service time freeze. He talks a huge game but he was out their laboring to the point that he just gave up on trying to hold runners. Total joke.

Manoah should go to the nearest fat farm, not Buffalo. Buffalo would make things worse.
