Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Adrian Hernandez had a rehab assignment in the FCL yesterday... apparently he's been throwing at the complex, so should see him back soon. Yay!
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Pardinho is going to high A. Wow...he has been in the Jays system for 5 years and he is only 21? I remember there was some hype around him after the Jays signed him. I am definitely watching and rooting for him!
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Seems like too many Pardihno types in the system that have strong stuff and command but lack velocity. Then most of the high velocity guys that get lots of swing and miss also have really high walk rates lol I guess most systems are filled with these two types. That's why it sucks to see a guy like Frasso get traded because he has the stuff, the velocity and the control. Be interesting to see how he does when the Dodgers bump him up to AA

From what I saw when I watched him earlier this year, he'll be in their rotation, if there's room, as soon as 2023.

Yeah sounds legit for a guy in A ball with 41 professional innings in his career over his first 2 seasons.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Yeah sounds legit for a guy in A ball with 41 professional innings in his career over his first 2 seasons. Manoah came to the big leagues with even less professional innings. Some teams are starting to care less about things like making a guy prove it in the minor leagues. If his pitches grade out as above major league average in the metrics they use to judge them and his control is good enough and his makeup is there then why the hell does a kid have to sit there in the minors putting up ridiculous numbers? Just so the team can say "OK now that he has 100 innings in A ball we can send him to AA for another 100 innings"? Horrible way to manage talent imo. Should be looking at the talent it self and asking your self can he produce in the big leagues now and help this team? If the answer is yes call him up. Of course you have balance all that with service time ********, if you have someone comparable in production whos earned a shot before the other guy ect ect.

Yeah that’s because an entire season was lost due to covid you doorknob. He was training with the Jays that whole summer at the development site IIRC
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Manoah also threw 108.1 winnings at West Virginia in his draft year + 17 in the minors, that's a big deal on his track record I could see Tiedemann up in 2023 but not in a full time capacity. Like maybe: A) in a bullpen role in MLB after he spends most of the year as a starter in the minors or maybe they take it way easy on him through the middle of the season in the minors and then try him out in the MLB rotation later in 2023 But I do think the team will be conscious of his workload in 2023. Would not expect a jump to 150 innings or anything like that!

He was training with the Jays that whole summer at the development site IIRC You think I dont f***ing know that?? It applies to the whole idea of having to prove it in the minor leagues that the Jays didnt really care about with Manoah. They saw the stuff and the command and said hes one of our best options as a starter and it doesnt matter that he barely has any experience in the minor leagues, we are using him in the big leagues now.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 He was talking about Frasso being in the Dodgers rotation in 2023 oh lmao yeah I doubt it he'll be like 15th on their depth chart in 2023
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Im not talking about inning workloads or anything like that. Im saying you shouldnt hold a kid down in the minor leagues if you think he could help out the big league team now just so you can check of some arbitrary box that says "threw x amount of innings in A ball, threw x amount of innings in AA ball".

That's always been a thing that happens, John Olerud didn't play a single game in the minors (until way later in his career). It's just a very rare thing, and I can't imagine that will change any time soon.

Honestly very few teams do this anymore. It's all about development and it's seldom arbitrary.

I looked up Frasso's college stats and the highest workload he reached was 60 innings. It just seems exceedingly unlikely he's going to have an available workload anywhere near what is required for an MLB team to reach a rotation spot in 2023. It's not outside the realm of possibility the Dodgers push him into more of a multi inning relief role, but even so that organization tends to have the type of pitching depth that guys with such a relative level of inexperience don't need to be pushed that quickly.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 08/02/22 Toronto Blue Jays signed free agent RHP Felipe Bello to a minor league contract. Assigned to the DSL Blue Jays, so assuming he's an international sign, not an undrafted free agent. Weird thing on his transactions page shows him being signed by the Jays and the M's. But it shows the Jays assigning him to their DSL team. https://www.mlb.com/player/felipe-bello-806593?stats=career-r-pitching-minors&year=2022

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Manoah circumstances were unique because of Covid. But I do like the mentality of not wasting bullets in the minors. Obviously building up innings is just as important as success. But I don’t think guys that are performing exceptionally well should stop moving until they hit a road block. Ricky T will finish this year in Double-A and probably start in Double-A next season. But if he continues to perform he will a rotation option by May or June. I can see him making a couple starts in AAA and then making the jump. Health and success permitting ofcourse.

What strain are you smoking because I need to get in on this level of high. I would be absolutely thrilled if Mitch “f***ing” White could be a decent back end option. He is a swing man ultimately and he will likely be serviceable in both those roles.

Yes Frasso was drafted out of college like Manoah, but unlike Manoah he never really built up to a full starters workload at any point in college or as a professional. As such he is going to likely need several years to get himself built up if he's to fill a starter role in the future.
