max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 BA gushing over the Tiedemann porn... He's getting a ton of attention all over the baseball stratosphere and very deservedly so. Future Jays is very excited as well. https://futurebluejays.com/2022/08/06/tiedemann-sizzling-in-aa-debut/

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Kyle Manzardo… What are the chances the Rays struck gold and this guy is going to give them a middle-of-the order bat for years to come?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 From what I've read his raw power is below average
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 From what I've read his raw power is below average Well he has a lot more game power I guess. Anyways, raw can change as people get strength gains at different times 18-24 imo. Obviously he’s old for the level but most of the elite colleges guys don’t come out hitting like that

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Jackson Chourio Brewers OF Notes: Tools: Hit: 55 | Power: 60 | Run: 70 | Fielding: 60 | Arm: 50 Skinny: The 18-year-old Venezuelan has been the breakout player of the minors, reaching High-A Wisconsin at an age when his peers are still in the Rookie-level complex leagues. With advanced hitting ability, explosive power, plus-plus speed and highlight-reel defense in center field, he has the tools to be a future superstar.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 That wording is a little off-putting. Gabriel's Load
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Key to the Soto deal: James Wood NationalsOF Notes: Tools: Hit: 45 | Power: 65 | Speed: 55 | Fielding: 50 | Arm: 50. Skinny: A giant slugger with the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways, Wood is more than an oddity as a 6-foot-7 slugger with advanced plate discipline and more bat-to-ball skills than his huge limbs would portend. His combination of plus power and feel to hit in a power forward’s body make Wood one of the most exciting prospects in the minor leagues.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Just 2 Blue Jays: Gabriel Moreno Blue JaysC Notes: Tools: Hit: 70 | Power: 50 | Run: 40 | Fielding: 55 | Arm: 60 Skinny: Moreno has the potential to be a plus-plus hitter, which has been evident in Triple-A. His natural hitting gifts and plus defense behind the plate make him a potential all-star even with questions about his power. Ricky Tiedemann Blue JaysLHP Notes: Tools: Fastball: 60 | Changeup: 70 | Slider: 55 | Control: 50 Skinny: One of the minor leagues' biggest breakouts on the pitching side, Tiedemann has shot through three levels to reach Double-A in his first professional season. He’s continued to impress with a three-pitch mix composed of above-average or better pitches.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Toman assigned to the FCL. 1 for 3 with a single and a sac fly in his first game today. De Jesus also there which is odd. Perhaps some organizational orientation thing before going to A+. He was 1 for 3 with a HR
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 That wording is a little off-putting. Nah. They can both unload on balls with regularity with their loads, so... I don't see the problem.
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Totally weird, but de Jesus reminded me of Ivan when he was a Cub, then that great infield they used to have before that. Ron Santo, Don Kessinger, , Glen Beckert, and some guy named Ernie Banks. Those guys could play.

Orelvis completely dumped out of the top 100 is a bit shocking, even though he's not having a barn-burner of a year, he's still 20 at AA, murders baseballs when he does connect, and has a defensive position on the left side of the IF. That's usually at least top 50 worthy from BA. They must be terrified of his hit tool
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Orelvis completely dumped out of the top 100 is a bit shocking, even though he's not having a barn-burner of a year, he's still 20 at AA, murders baseballs when he does connect, and has a defensive position on the left side of the IF. That's usually at least top 50 worthy from BA. They must be terrified of his hit tool Yep, the bust risk is high right now But 30% K rate and .231 BABIP. Tone down his aggressiveness (55% swing rate) with a normal BABIP and the wRC+ gets into the 130 range. The aggressiveness and low BABIP suggests weak contact on pitches out of the zone
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 I don't know how accurate the Batted Ball numbers on Fangraphs are for the minor leagues, but Orelvis looks like an extreme pop-up guy. His infield flyball rate is 26.3% and was similar last year. Only a single qualified batter is above 20% in the majors this year and the league average is 10.2% Orelvis must have some massive holes in his swing right now. Here's an old fangraphs article I found on popups: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/hitter-traits-that-causes-infield-fly-balls/
BlueBaller Verified Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Probably should have started in Vancouver.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Probably should have started in Vancouver. Possibly, but his numbers this year at a higher level are already pretty much equal to his High A numbers from last year, so he's not getting worse. He's just getting challenged by the higher competition and needs to make probably more than 1 adjustment to get back on track. He won't figure out how to hit AA pitching at A+.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Orelvis' issues are probably between the ears. Coaching can only do so much for it.
