InsideThePark Verified Member Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Irv Carter with his pro debut today. Got touched up a bit, but also showed some swing and miss. 3.2IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 6K Through 3 innings and 2 batters he was 3.1 IP, 5 K, 2 BB, 2 hits, 1 run. Then perhaps ran out of gas against the final 4 batters. Young pitcher running out of gas late in an outing making the line look worse that he probably pitched is completely acceptable IMO. Most of the outing was strong. Stamina will come but it's not a priority right now. Way more ideal doing it that way than consistently giving up a walk, hit and run every inning where you're just bad rather than having a reason for the marginal line.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Talent is diluted now because of the minor league level removal. Players are in that league that in last years would not have been pitching that high wRC+ would adjust for that though, no? Everyone's facing the same level of competition generally.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Tiedemann 5 IP, 9 K, 1 BB, 3 hits, 0 runs Thews 84 pitches which is 8 more than the 1 start they pulled him due to pitch count which is interesting
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Hayden Juenger tonight: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 5 K. 48 pitches. Tanner Morris, who had no hits in his first two games in Triple-A, has two singles so far tonight. Nathan Lukes 1-for-2 so far with a walk and a homer. Average up to .308. Dahian Santos had his worst outing of the year: 3 IP, 4 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 3 K. 65 pitches.

I saw that he was on 6k after 4. What a performance.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 wRC+ would adjust for that though, no? Everyone's facing the same level of competition generally. No, if the peer talent is generally worse then a great player will be relatively speaking even greater
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 wRC+ would adjust for that though, no? Everyone's facing the same level of competition generally. wRC+ Is a great tool to use when the average player skill stays relatively the same from year to year. If the talent pool gets diluted heavily, the average skill level goes down, making wRC+ a less important measure.

He has to be a better option than Zimmer, even if he's not AS good on defence.

Let's say he hits .270 with average defense up here and a .750 OPS. That's better than what Tapia and Zimmer offer.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Dahian Santos got knocked around yesterday. 3 IP, 4 hits, 4 walks, 6 earned runs, 3 Ks Hopefully bounces back strong in his next outing

I cant agree with this comment enough, we traded a better pitcher than some of the scrubs they bring up from the minors for a guy with a worse bat than what we have already in the organisation

If he was hitting anywhere approaching his career numbers with his speed and defence, he'd be a nice bench piece, but we are not getting what anyone would have reasonable expected when that trade was made. It SHOULD have been an expendable arm for a good bench bat. Castro's not having a good year either, his only not atrocious stat is his 3.30 xFIP, all the rest of his numbers are putrid (in only 6.2 MLB innings).

I agree he was "expected" to perform better but he is not. And we have a better option on the farm who deserves a shot ....time to move on from what should have been.
