Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2021 Author Posted June 27, 2021 Dasan Brown debuted for Dunedin today. 1-for-4 with a caught stealing.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Frasso hasn't pitched since June 3rd. Enough with the f***ing pitcher injuries. Jesus christ anyways. At least I assume he's injured. Why else would he pitch 5 innings and then sit for nearly a month?

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Rookie ball Gulf Coast League is now the Florida Complex League I dont see Beltre on their roster today, but the others are OK n there and they start today
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I thought short season ball was done with. Complex leagues are still running.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I think the most important thing here is John Axford started the game. 1IP 1H 1K 7Pitches.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I thought short season ball was done with. I thought the same thing, but found out through here that they've only eliminated the one SSL. That's why I joked about Frasso, I knew they'd be starting up shortly. My bad, I assumed you knew.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2021 Author Posted June 29, 2021 What is it with Latin players and the inability to get their names right once they're signed. The spelling of their names is always getting changed. MiLB now has Rikelvin De Castro as Rikelin De Castro
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 John Axford started for the FCL Blue Jays today. 1 scoreless inning 1K 0BB. I looked up the birthdates. 90% of the team was born 2000 or later. Then there's Ax 1983! The kids must have thought he was a coach when he walked into the locker room.

MiLB now has Rikelvin De Castro as Rikelin De Castro It happens a lot in with different countries and origin, random orders and spelling is traded off often, Especially if it makes it easier in family I believe. Org knows way more than me on the matter. The other origin is East Asia.

What a weird coincidence that literally none of the Blue Jays big affiliates had games the same day that they also had an off day.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Big minor league debut coming for the Yankees. I wasn't watching baseball when the Yankees signed this kid so I had no idea about him. Very surprised to find out how highly he's ranked throughout baseball despite having literally 0 minor league plate appearances. Must have insane tools.

The Next A-Rod!
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Yeah, you lived under a rock, lol. The Next A-Rod! lol, yup. Josh Donaldson was my favorite Blue Jays player of all time and with how often he got injured in 2017, paired with Bautista and Edwin no longer being there and Tulo becoming a dead roster spot, I just couldn't stay invested. I was getting more and more into hockey and basketball at the same time and I couldn't stomach another beginning phase of a rebuild that just so happened to include watching my favorite players wither away and fall from grace. I already hadn't been watching for a few months but the fact that they traded Donaldson away for nothing at the end of it was sort of the nail in the coffin for me at the time. I got really excited following Vladdy and Bo's numbers in the minors as they were coming up but, for whatever reason, that never translated to main roster interest for me. I thought Vladdy's call up would get me back into baseball and I even went to his debut game but the Raptors wound up peaking at the same time and that took away my attention. I already didn't recognize the Blue Jays roster when I went to Vladdy's debut and by the time the NBA finals ended, the spark from Vladdy's call-up had worn off and he was playing like a league average guy so nothing really drew me back to the Jays at the time. I never stopped loving baseball, it just became hard to follow and hard to watch for a while. I don't know if I'd have even gotten reinvested this year if it weren't for my wife. Ever since I met her in late 2017, I'd always tell her about what a beautiful sport it was and that whenever we got married I'd teach her everything about it and take her to watch games. We got married last July but obviously with the pandemic and them playing in Buffalo, it kind of put a damper on all of that. By the time the idiots in charge of baseball agreed on the 2020 season, the hockey and basketball bubbles were getting underway so baseball once again fell to the wayside. But once we settled into married life and things calmed down, we really started getting that excitement back for the upcoming season. It helped that the Raptors were tanking at that point and wouldn't be must-watch TV once baseball started up but the Springer and Semien signings really brought it all together. By the time those signings happened and spring training was about to kick off, my girl was going out of her way to listen to baseball podcasts on her own and asking me questions all the time about the game. Her excitement in it got me even more excited, lol. At this point I know I'm back in balls deep. And I know that because I've tried forcing myself to stop watching them at points this season (that Rays sweep in particular) but I can't bring myself to not put games on, lol. I'm stuck with this f***ing sport once again.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Probably wrote way too much above but TLDR: I completely lost track of baseball and basically have a 4-year long blind spot to everything that happened in the sport from 2017-2020. Coming into this season I knew nothing about the top prospects around the league, I had no idea who most teams' GMs and managers were, I knew nothing about upcoming draft prospects, etc. But baseball has always been my first love and in my excitement to teach my wife about it (she knew nothing about the sport before meeting me), I was pulled back in.

I went through a similar lull in the mid 90's until probably about 2005 or so. After the 1994-1995 strike and terrible 1995 Jays team I sort of lost interest in baseball for awhile. I didn't have cable television for a good chunk of time during this period as well so it made it very hard to actually watch any of the games. It took regaining access to cable television and having an easy venue for watching games again to rekindle my passion for baseball.
