Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 The DSL starts July 12th. No idea if the Jays will have games. It was up in the air a few weeks ago. Manuel Beltre is going there, so im going assume the Jays will field a team now
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Has any of the prospect lists been updated lately? Just curious how far players like Manning and Howard have dropped, and which players have risen since the beginning of the season. Fangraphs has turned The Board into something a bit organic. They move prospects around at intervals throughout the year.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Something seems off, no doubt. The only thing off was people's expectations. People like Jim have been posting for the last year about SWR being our savior and in the rotation next year. Look at Pearson. Young arms can take time. SWR may be a couple years off. He's got good stuff. Pearson has a good arm too and if he can ever get healthy I think he's going to contribute. Then there's Manoah who's an instant hit. Seriously, projecting pitching is a fools game. It's so hard to predict arms.

Exactly, PEAK team is waiting on a couple of prospect pieces, particularly from the trio of Pearson, Manoah, SWR. One of the more interesting thing to follow this year is who they use out of the bullpen, it's clear to me Shatkins wants to develop a bullpen using the plethora of fringe No. 5 starter arms they have. It's too bad Merryweather got hurt just when he looked like closer material.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 SWR is having a great year. Love the K rate. Who gives a s*** what his ERA is and the walk rate isn't alarmingly high given the number of innings. Zero red flags

Im going to assume sending Beltre there and him posting about the date the league (games) starts means he is going to play, which I would assume the Jays decided to combine or field a full team. We shall see one way or the other soon Doesn't make sense for Beltre to go there just to continue to practice as he is now

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I'd give up SWR, Martin and Groshans for Max...giddy up. 3 blue chippers for a soon to be 38 year old pitcher on an expiring contract. Well that's certainly something.

I wasn't actually serious. After reading Jim's post I thought we were all just posting dumb s***. I thought the giddy up was a bit of a giveaway.

No one is trading big prospects for Scherzer. Look at what Darvish got traded for. His return was underwhelming and he had 3 years at 18.66 AAV. Scherzer is going to ask for 2 years 70 to be traded now. I might trade Hiraldo or Lopez and some pitcher in the system I've never heard for Max, but that's about it.

We'll see, but am ACE will cost you, no matter his age you're giving up one good prospect(top 10), ++ ... say Van Eyk and another of his ilk, for an extended Scherzer.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Just heard a nice blurb on Francisco Álvarez What a potentially great international signing by the Mets

I was having flashbacks of a poster on the Athletic comments section espousing the need for the Jays to trade two of Moreno, Martin and Groshans in exchange for Richard Rodriguez of the Pirates.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Otto Lopez hits his 3rd homer in 2 weeks Hatch goes 5 innings, 1 hit, 3 BBs, 6 Ks
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Julio Rodriguez, Double-A Arkansas (Mariners)—The No. 3 prospect in baseball has been excellent this season and has hit even better since arriving at Double-A on June 29. Rodriguez collected two more hits, including a double, in three at-bats on Wednesday, raising his slash line to .385/.543/.577 with a homer, four RBIs and eight walks in eight games in the upper minors. How good is this guy going to be?

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 f***ing injuries. I miss the daily dose of Moreno mashing AA pitching to a pulp.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 Orlevis HBP twice tonight Every other top prospect has been hurt this season already. Might as well get ready for Orelivs to get f***ed up too.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Axford another 123 inning tonight
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Orlevis HBP twice tonight Tampa was really out for blood tonight. First they placed a bounty on Orelvis, then they put a 21 run spanking on Dunedin as well.
