BTS Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 September call up if he rakes. Why do people keep saying this? There should be 0 chance of that.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 No need to rush Bo. He's been good but not to the point where he's lighting the world on fire. Biggio, maybe. He had a slow June but looks to be picking it up again in July. I think promoted Bo and keeping him together with Vlad is a good idea. They have a great chemistry and Shatkins seem to have been doing that since Lansing.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 IIRC Sept callups don't impact service time. Deadpool is wrong.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 IIRC Sept callups don't impact service time. No, this is wrong. People need to stop saying this lol.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Why do people keep saying this? There should be 0 chance of that. I could see it happening to help appease him some but only for like a week or two. Then entering next year just say he needs to work on his defense and keep him down for a week or two longer. Or is that not plausible?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 No, this is wrong. People need to stop saying this lol. Is this something that changed over the years?? I remember Olerud, Green, Delgado, etc. and other always being called up in September in the old days. They got like a handful of at bats, watched a pennant race, and ... I guess I presumed this didn't effect their service time. Then more recently Wells (1999) and Snider (2008) got called up, however those guys were a bit different. They were actually called up last couple of days in August, as both years Jays had an outside chance at playoffs and actually were planning to play both regularly and wanted them available for a potential playoff roster. Was it possible to get 6 years and 90% of a seventh year in the old days?? Maybe that's what's changed somewhow, because it seemed at one point teams regularly called up top prospects in September. There's even old videos on Manny Ramirez hitting his first 2 homeruns in the bronx as a September callup OK enough old man ranting. Point is Why did teams used to call up young top prospects in September?? And now it apparently it is stupid.

Bo has been very hot and cold this year and i think that he is going to see more high level arms AA as AAA is more journeyman starters. I don't think chemistry means s*** when your working on trying to improve someones bat, each situation should be looked at differently and i think Bo is best suited in AA. Only my opinion though.

I don't think chemistry means s*** when your working on trying to improve someones bat, each situation should be looked at differently and i think Bo is best suited in AA. Only my opinion though. I think this is a really common misconception that gets thrown around a lot. Bo will not be facing better competition in AA, the talent level at AAA is much better, and AAA also contains some of those "high-level" (i.e. top 100 prospects is what I assume you mean) arms who are more advanced. Those journeyman starters are much better than their counterparts in AA, because a lot of them actually have MLB experience. If Bo isn't ready for AAA then he shouldn't face the better competition as it could hurt his development, but the argument shouldn't be that he should stay down because he might bat against a couple more top prospect pitchers that aren't even as polished as the journeymen in AAA.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Yeah not a fan of Vlad getting a Sept call up now that the team is way out of it. Putting him on a 40 man for no reason just for 50 at bats or whatever in Sept is stupid. Wait until May or June of next year (depending on whether you want the extra year or the extra year + avoid super 2). I prefer option 3. Work out a long term deal with him and let him start the season with the club

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Author Posted July 12, 2018 Funfact Will Smith turned down the Matrix to do the Wild Wild West. He turned it down because he didn't understand the concept. John Travolta turned down Forrest Gump

el diego Verified Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 He turned it down because he didn't understand the concept. John Travolta turned down Forrest Gump Yeah I think he said on paper it didn't seem that good. He also said he doesn't regret it because he doesn't think he would have done a good job. He's right, he would have been an awful fit. Keanu was perfect for the role of Neo. Still one of the goofier turn downs in hindsight. I never knew about the Travolta/Gump one. That's a woozler.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Travolta starred in Pulp Fiction the same year Forrest Gump came out. If he was actually offered the role, that would likely be why he turned it down.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Author Posted July 12, 2018 There are lots of interesting roles turned down over the years. Travolta turned down the role of Forrest Gump and went on to do Pulp Fiction instead. I think we can all agree that this worked out great for all parties involved. Sean Connery turned down Gandalf in LoTR. Mark Wahlberg turned down Jake Gyllenhaal's role in Brokeback Mountain. He was creeped out by the role. Thought it was a little too graphic for him. This from Dirk Diggler. Warren Beatty passed on Bill from Kill Bill. Julia Roberts passed on Gwynnth Paltrow's Shakespeare in Love role. Roberts wanted Daniel Day Lewis to play Shakespeare and when he passed she did too. Mel Gibson turned down Gladiator. Jerry Maguire was supposed to be Tom Hanks but he was busy directing That Thing You Do so they turned to Cruise instead. If you look into it there are tons of great roles that were passed up by great actors and actresses. It would be interesting to see how the movie would've turned out had they accepted. Did you guys know that Eric Stoltz was the original Marty McFly? They actually had most of the most shot and then Zemeckis realised that it just wasn't working with Stoltz so they recast with Michael J Fox and basically reshot the whole movie again.
