THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Or getting railed Soon to be clotheslined by a rail
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Olerud going off the rails. The prospect list is a bit of a joke, and a bit of reality, reflecting who is on fire right now and whos not.... My five top prospects are all very young, very intriguing, and have done very well the last couple of weeks, save Anthony Alford who has actually done OK the last couple of weeks, but is more of a inside joke. My comments on Vlad are actually quite realistic. July 8th - at this point Vlad will not be returning July 8th. That's pretty clear. July 14th. This is now the best case scenario, assuming when he finally tries to jog to first, he feels no pain. Back for the July 14th weekend and makes the futures game. The best case scenario rarely happens. So likely he misses the futures game but maybe comes back after the all star break. July 19th. That could happen, and I hope it does. If it doesn't then we begin a phase where "Vlad is running but can't go all out"... and that drags on, and on, and actually if it goes on for two or three weeks the minor league season is almost over, and it makes no sense to bring him back. And then you have a good hitter, with bad knees, who missed the majority of the season, and has serious questions.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 By the way new top 5 prospects 1. Anthony Alford - Still the top athlete in the system 2. Eric Pardinho - The next Pedro Martinez 3. Jordan Groshans - A new hope 4. Cal Stevenson - Barry Bonds on base percentage, lots of time to develop the power. 5. Reese McGuire - Getting hot with the bat and calls a great game (seriously, according to many posters on BJMB, Reid Foley has a 40.00 ERA with the other guy, 1.88 with McGuire). Why your favourite player did not make the list (they will make the top 100 when I compile that, so don't worry) 1. Vlad Guerrero Jr. - Call me back when he can actually jog around a bit 2. Bo Bichette - Every time you think he's finally getting hot, he goes 1/20 3. Danny Jansen - His average is converging to McGuire's and according to BJMB Reid Foley can't pitch to him 4. Reid Foley - Pitching good lately, but if he needs McGuire as a personal catcher it's a risk. Love McGuire but what if I'm wrong on him and he's another Josh Thole?? 5. Kevin Smith - Call me back when he stops striking out 3 times a game in Dunedin. Just like Bartolo is a better player than Trout this year....
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Just like Bartolo is a better player than Trout this year.... I'm not sure I get this reference. What's wrong with everyone... it's just a bit of satire mixed with truth. Bo Bichette - good prospect having a frustrating year. Frustrating in that every time it looks like he's really about to take off, he goes into another mini slump. Frustrating in that he hasn't walked in a month. Frustrating in the every time it looks like he'll make a run at .300 he goes back to .270... and times running out. Minor league seasons are short. Looks now like Bo is going to have a "good for age" season, not a great season. At times it looked Bichette was going to rake for a few weeks, and move up to Alex Bregmann level as a hitting prospect... but instead he forgot how to walk, and went 1 for 20.

To give some perspective, Alex Bregman was still in college at this age would take more than two calendar years to reach the majors. Also, Bichette has made some serious strides with his conditioning and defense. He looks like he could stick at shortstop for a while, which is a big plus. Bregman, meanwhile, can't play a passable shortstop and is also a very poor 3B. Let's give him some the before saying that this is a poor season or a disappointment.

I absolutely agree with you, that's why I made it clear that he's having a "good for age" season. I was just making the point that there were a couple of times it looked like he was getting really hot and headed for a .900 OPS and a plain old "good" season, then he takes a step back. I can't find the game logs, but I feel like he hasn't walked in about 20 games. I actually follow the stats pretty closely, and one thing that I like to see is 1 walk every 2 games, and I recall Bichette reaching that level (30 walks in 60 games), but now he's at 80 games still 30 walks.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Bichette hasn't walked since June 19th.

Why? Why not look at the k-rate and walk rate... A-ball: 17.4K% 8.8BB% High-A: 14.3K% 7.7BB% AA: 16.6K% 8.3BB% Not that different between each level. His BB% has actually gone up since moving to AA. His peripherals are mostly the same throughout the levels except that his LD% has gone down to 15.8%

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 I just checked today, Bregman’s wRC+ is 150 and he’s walking more than he’s striking out.

He also struck out just 8 times in June. Essentially he is swinging his bat too well to draw walks. Might even be an approach they are asking of him. He also hasn't had back to back 0 for nights since May 23rd. I think your tongue-in-cheek comments are pretty much closer to head-in-ass.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Santos Moreno is off to a pretty nice start. 5 starts, 12.46 k/9, 1.66 bb/9, 1.90 xFIP. I don't know anything about his actual stuff.

Has hardly walked in his last 20 games. I highly doubt the jays are instructing him to not walk.

Nobody knows anything about him. I found this little blurb at BP: Santos Moreno – RHP – DSL – Who? Moreno is a diminutive righty from Mexico, who was so far off the radar that he wasn’t even on the published list of signings last July. But in the early going this season he’s made five starts and recorded a 2.08 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 21.2 IP. http://toronto.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2018/07/04/minor-league-report-signing-day-edition/

I said Bo Bichette is having a "good for age" season, not a great season (True, if a Connor Pannas was having this season no one would care). I said he went 1/20.. pretty much true, I think it was 1/18 at the beginning of the night, 1/22 at the end. I said he hadn't walked in 20 games, untrue... I just looked at the game logs and it's 13 games since he walked. But what the f*** is wrong with you people?? Holy s***. Of all the things you could rip me for, you're ripping me for saying Bo went 1/20 and is doing good for his age but not rocking it?? Edited July 5, 2018 by Olerud363
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 And the Vlad thing. I'm half joking but half not. I don't think he's coming back right after the four weeks. I can't imagine he is just going to jump back to New Hampshire July 8th. He hasn't even f***ing run from the couch to fridge to get a burrito from what I hear. Maybe I'm wrong on that. Maybe July 8th is the day. But if he hasn't run yet... That doesn't worry you?? f***in Troy Tulowitzki was working out since the end of May... but wasn't really running and... I don't know... isn't really coming back any time soon... and Donaldson was out for 2 days for the last 5 weeks and isn't coming back... basically he wasn't running, and when he did try to run he blew out his calf again and isn't coming back any time soon. So the fact that Vlad isn't running isn't bothering any of you??? Obviously it's not. He's going to run on July 10th, and July 12th, and everything will be wonderful, he will run like the wind and he will be back July 14th just in time for the futures game.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I heard he's planning on running to the futures game.
