Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Juan Soto 3/4 so far today, OPS in high A now over 1.000 He'll be in AA by July
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Kacy Clemens: 2/5 with 2HR and a walk. Homered 3 times in the last 2 days. Now hitting .323/.500/.631 with 22BB and 13K in Lansing. I’ve said before he was the guy that stuck out the most to me when I saw him in Vancouver. But he needs to move up right now so if we can see if he’s legit. edit: It seems like Dunedin has at least a couple non prospects who are struggling to start the year, so making room for a guy like Clemens shouldn't be an issue.
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Vlad Jr. average up to .378.....
spats Verified Member Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Donaldson Dh tonight for Dunedin...1st at at bat hit one to the warning track followed by a groundout and a pop fly. I continue to be impressed by Palacios at bat and in the field. The kid for Clearwater ( Sanchez ) sat around 98 all night with a wicked slider to boot...Phillies may have something there.
Ray Verified Member Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Vlad Jr. average up to .378..... He's getting better with every level he moves up. Still walking more than he's striking out, hitting for an absurd average, and power.

Sixto has been compared to Pedro Martinez, kid oozes upside for sure.

Ray Verified Member Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 How come Clemens kid fell to the 8th round. This guy looks like a monster Age plus he's a 1B, but I still really like him. When I saw him in Vancouver, his AB's were the most enjoyable. Worked counts to full a lot and also has a sweet line drive swing. Powers beginning to show now too. I would reserve true judgement on him until he moves up to High-A and AA. Avg age in the league he's in is 21 years, and he's 23. Same with Ryan Noda. Both need to be at age appropriate levels.

Yup, guys advanced enough to put up .500+ OBPs are too good for the pitchers they are facing and need to be challenged more to find out if they actually have a bat or not
metafour Verified Member Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Lane Thomas (who we traded for IFA pool money) is hitting .305/.352/.659 with 7 HR's in AA for the Cardinals. He is still only 22 and always had promising tools despite lackluster performance. Hope we dont end up regretting dumping him off.

devo Verified Member Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 There was a recent write up about the Lansing roster by clutchlings over at Future Blue Jays, including this blurb on Kevin Smith: Drafted as a SS in the 4th round last year, Smith was sent to Bluefield as top pick Logan Warmoth, who plays the same spot, was sent to Vancouver. With Vicuna in Lansing’s lineup, Smith has seen more time at 3rd. He made the most recent edition of Baseball America‘s prospect hot sheet after slashing .433/.471/.933 this past week. Smith’s bat is absolutely on fire. He leads the MWL in Doubles, Total Bases, and RBI, and like Clemens, is among the leaders in several other hitting stats. Smith has a closed stance, and uses a slight leg kick. His head is still as the pitch approaches the plate, giving him good pitch recognition. He gets good extension and plate coverage on his swing as a result. If you were to ask which hitter on the Lansing roster looks the most like an MLB prospect, it would be Smith. He’s cut his K rate from almost 25% in Bluefield to just over 15% so far. Smith is also an efficient base runner (he’s a perfect 6-6 this year, and has stolen 21 bases without being caught as a pro), and he’s making the adjustment to playing 3rd. He’s had some troubles on pop ups down the LF line, as the different angle he has to take is probably taking some time to get used to. https://futurebluejays.com/2018/04/30/theres-another-team-to-watch-in-the-blue-jays-system/ Definitely worth the read.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 I'm more excited about Smith than I am Warmoth tbh
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 I'm more excited about Smith than I am Warmoth tbh Why, the bat?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2018 Author Posted May 1, 2018 I'm more excited about Smith than I am Warmoth tbh I don't think you should be
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 I don't think you should be Concerning the sample sure, but Smith is doing exactly his ceiling at this point, Warmoth hasn't, yet.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 I don't think you should be Probably not but Smith is apparently an excellent defender, right? The power/defense combo could be good. Warmoth is a wannabe jack of all trades type but in reality he's a master of none. Smith is a year younger and in a lower level but he's doing quite well. Can't say the same for Warmoth.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 From Baseball America's April 30 Prospect Hot Sheet: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/top-mlb-prospects-hot-sheet-43018/ And I'll just repeat that last line in case anyone glossed over it... He's been kept off base in just 21 games as a pro.... out of 200 games.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 I've not made a Juan Soto post in a week, so it's time to annoy all of you again: he has a 177 wRC+ through his first 35 A+ plate appearances on a 0.269 BABIP and walked 5 times and struck out twice. If he keeps it going for a couple months he could be the latest 19-year old to reach AA. Possibly on the Vlad/Acuna trajectory.

Don't think that trade would've been on the table much longer.
