Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 So start Cola and get ready for another 2-run homer? Not at all, but given Smoak`s poor form of late and shocker on Wednesday night, it might be an ideal opportunity to play Cola and rest Smoak against their ace, our numbers against Archer are generally atrocious. Some semblence of past success might help.

Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Hopefully we get the win but Cola will be needing some at bats soon especially if Smoak`s recent struggles continue. Cola has had 2 starts in 2 weeks, which would be fine if Smoak was producing but IMO that`s no longer the platoon, which served us so well in August and early September, it seems Gibby`s decided to go with Smoak almost exclusively since Tulo went down.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Cola strikes almost primarily on breaking balls but because he hits one here and there people forget that. This is true for 95 % of hitters. Theres a reason its called an out pitch. Cola can hit a breaking ball, smoak can't. ...

Have you watched Smoak at all this season? He rarely makes contact with any breaking ball, even ones left up in the zone. So what he hit one out, all the luck boys on here seem to only remember negative luck.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 whats the worst that gonna happen lol They won't need him other than the odd pinch hit match up.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 They won't need him other than the odd pinch hit match up. They treat him like Russ Martin, he's the 9th or 10th most important position player on this team.

Absolutely the case. This shouldn't be either or. They are both heavily flawed players than can and have been useful to us. Not every player on the field will be a superstar. Smoak had a good game today. Cola struck out again. PHing...and on it goes. Use them both.

EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Liked Smoak's opposite field approach today. If he can do that with the grounders/liners more consistently then it'll f*ck up the opposition defensive shift and he'll be able to get on base much more often.

crederer Verified Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Cola's D at first is fine, his hitting is better. They'll probably start smoak (at least in the early stages) because he is likely seen as "safer" choice. But as other posters stated, left vs right.
