Kawasaki is qualified to be on the 25 man playoff roster. It's just not terribly likely that he will be chosen over other options.

Funny how Kawasaki is not even considered over Goins anymore.

Oh how things have changed..

Get off your knees, brah. A hot month doesn't change much.

I like how Goins has been playing, but we should pass judgement until we see what he does in Sept.

Give me a f***ing break. You mean to tell me that you still think Kawasaki is still in the fold?

No, as a 3rd maybe 4th emergency guy sure, get a grip, Goins is and will always be a 25th man.

I have always known this, but a 25 man spot will always be warranted.

This imo constitutes a stick.

lol...where's his easily beat Linds 1.5 WAR playing 96 games? Just stop gruber. I like the guy, you make me dislike him with your stumped up BS, of I told you so. Get a grip.

Oh yeah, Lind. The guy we should have never traded for Estrada. Highway robbery i think it was referred to earlier this year.

Guys like Colabello and Smoak, would never have been sought after. Lind's a good ballplayer, whether you like it or not. As for Estrada, he was a welcome surprise, I still wouldn't have made that move, in terms of talent.

Changing my tune? I was all for him being our starting second baseman before we traded for Travis, because we didn't have many options. Ryan Goins has risen above all the other options we used at second base, and there were quit a few. Travis is obviously a better option, he's a fantastic hitter.

Fair enough, Travis is 3 times the player, Goins is in a great spot and has worked out admirably. Like I said, a back up MIF. Your WAR was way off by the way.

Lind is a good bat vs RHP but doesn't bring anything else to the table. Weak defender and can't run, injury prone to boot.

I am a little surprised that Pompey was not recalled on August 31 (to replace Carrera) as then he would be eligible for the post season. As the 4th outfielder he would provide better defense and the ability to steal bases as a pitch hitter. Not sure how the rules work if Carrera would have to be DFA on August 31 and as such, the Jays could risk losing him (he could be helpful in September)

To be eligible for the postseason active roster, a player must have either been on that team's expanded roster or disabled list as of midnight ET on August 31 of that year and not placed on the 60 day disabled list after August 1.

What's the problem?

As I understand it ... a player must be on the active 25 man roster at midnight August 31 (there are exceptions ... DL players like Stroman)

Per Wikipedia ...

To be eligible for a team's postseason roster, a player must be on any of the following: (a) the active 25-man roster (B) the disabled list, © the bereavement list, or (d) the suspended list as of August 31 at midnight ET.[1] The only exception is that a player who is on the disabled list at the end of the regular season may be replaced on the postseason roster by any other player who was in the organization on August 31, with the approval of the commissioner of baseball.[2] All players on the team's roster during the season will be eligible to receive a World Series ring after the team wins the World Series.

Wow looking back at that trade, wonder if AA saw Estrada being this solid back then. Really trading Happ and Lind makes so much more sense if this is what he was expecting from Estrada. I thought Marco was just a mediocre bullpen piece at the time.

Are we looking at the same page? I just quoted what it said above.

For every injured player, the club can add a replacement. He (or someone) will replace Izturis from the 60 Day DL making him postseason eligible.

Other than the uncharacteristically low HR rate, Estrada's performance is pretty much in line with what should have been expected. Acquiring him for pitching depth was a solid move.

EDIT: I just took a look at his xFIP for the first time today, darn was pretty high on him.

I don't think AA saw him being this good, or he wouldn't have been earmarked for the bullpen like he was when we got him.
