KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 In the postseason, teams are limited to a 25 man active roster just like the regular season (prior to Sept 1). Kawasaki won't play in the postseason unless there is an injury where he could be added to the active roster though I think he'd still get a ring if the Jays win the WS. Kawasaki is qualified to be on the 25 man playoff roster. It's just not terribly likely that he will be chosen over other options.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Francis over Delaballs he gonna be pissed
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Francis over Delaballs he gonna be pissed Delabar will get the call on the 7th I guess. That said, I think his time with the Blue Jays ends this year. I feel his up and down this year, and his reaction to it is something that won't be overcome. He'll look to pitch elsewhere in 2016.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Francis makes sense because the current bullpen doesn't have a looooong man that can emergency start or chew up 4-5 innings. Tepera makes sense if they think he's > Delabar, which is a fair opinion. I wonder if the relationship with Delabar is just completely shattered. A lot of his public comments recently have him coming off as quite jaded, ambivalent about the organization in general, and generally unhappy. To quote David Price, #ifyoudontlikeitPITCHbetter
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Glad Tepera's up. He can pitch in blowouts with Schultz instead of Hendriks.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 To quote David Price, #ifyoudontlikeitPITCHbetter Delabald took it as "BITCH better".

If not, why not just hold onto him?
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays will take advantage of expanded rosters by calling up five players Tuesday, bolstering their team for the final month of the season. Relievers Ryan Tepera, Aaron Loup and Jeff Francis are set to join the team in Toronto along with outfielder Dalton Pompey and infielder Munenori Kawasaki, industry sources told Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi. While Tepera, Loup, Pompey and Kawasaki are on Toronto’s 40-man roster, Francis is not and will require a spot on the roster, which is presently full. Without clear candidates to transition to the 60-day disabled list, the Blue Jays may need to designate a player for assignment. MLB teams can carry up to 40 players in September, and while they don’t push that limit to the max, they do take advantage of the opportunity to bolster their rosters for the final month of the season. Catcher Josh Thole is expected to re-join the Blue Jays this week and if Marcus Stroman's rehab start goes well Wednesday, he'll also be one step closer to joining the Blue Jays for the stretch run. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-set-to-promote-five-as-rosters-expand/
vdartanian Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Apart from Pompey, nothing coming up that will really help the team....but damn do the Jays ever hate Delabar, not sure why he wasn't traded earlier.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Francis really the only surprise. Delabar gets shunned.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 but damn do the Jays ever hate Delabar, not sure why he wasn't traded earlier. No kidding. He's been dominating down there lately too.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Tapera over Delabar? lol this is getting weird.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I don't understand whats going on with Delabar, has to be more too it...he has to be a better option then tapera? WTF
Brenner Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Delebar shafted for the poor attitude?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 No kidding. He's been dominating down there lately too. Yeah, he's pitched well. I guess Roach will be DFA'd.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I don't understand whats going on with Delabar, has to be more too it...he has to be a better option then tapera? WTF Jays pen is already full of arms. Why not bring someone up who has a chance to be back next year than Delabar who is most likely done as a Blue Jay after this season.

Governator Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Jays pen is already full of arms. Why not bring someone up who has a chance to be back next year than Delabar who is most likely done as a Blue Jay after this season. Because this isn't tryouts for 2016. This is added depth and you just can't have enough BP arms in September to give rest to others. For example, Hendriks & Lowe have no business pitching in a blowout, rest them for the postseason.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Fields and Delabar will likely be added on the 7th. Also, why wouldn't Delabar be a Jay next season, he's still their property, he'll just be out of options. They can still trade him if need be.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Francis makes sense because the current bullpen doesn't have a looooong man that can emergency start or chew up 4-5 innings. Francis isn't on the 40 so I for one didn't even give him any consideration. I figured that Jenkins would be the long man simply because he was already available. That being said I only currently count 39 active players on the 40 so a corresponding move won't be required until they activate Stroman. Whoever gets cut probably won't be anyone we'll miss. Tepera makes sense if they think he's > Delabar, which is a fair opinion. If you figure the extra reliever is only going to get mopup duty anyways then I can see simply preffering the guy who keeps his mouth shut but if the idea is to have another reliever so you can mix and match more then I don't get it. Seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face. If anyone was going to beat out Delabar for a spot, I figured it would be Colt Hynes simply by virtue of being a lefty.

Blue Jays Designate Colt Hynes By Jeff Todd [september 1, 2015 at 11:03am CDT] The Blue Jays have designated lefty Colt Hynes for assignment, the club announced. He loses his 40-man spot to help clear space for the team’s September call-ups, which include the previously non-rostered Jeff Francis. Hynes, 30, earned a brief call-up with Toronto for his second taste of big league action, but threw only three innings. He has enjoyed a solid season at Triple-A, though, throwing 44 2/3 innings of 3.22 ERA ball with 7.3 K/9 against 3.4 BB/9.

The corresponding move had already been made.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I guess Francis gives the team more options than either Colt Hynes or Chad Jenkins would have by virtue of being both a lefty and a long man. Could be used in long relief and be used situationally (the later is a bit scary but not necessarily worse than Colt Hynes in that kind of role).

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Man I was just thinking it over. It's amazing that Loup has been the only disappointment for this team. I guess you could say Hutch is also a disappointment, but its also showed that he was very unlucky. But I expected domination after his great 2014 half.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Chad Girado. Is he an org guy or does he hace a decent arm as a loogy?
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Because this isn't tryouts for 2016. That's why Loup(lefty) and Francis(long-man) were called up... were debating the 10th man in the pen and I highly doubt the difference between Tepera and Delabar (which isn't much, IMO) has any impact.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Tepera is really good against RHH but should never see a LHH. IF a team has 2-3 RHH due up and its the 5th or 6th inning he isn't a bad option. You can bring pitchers in for 1-2 batters in SEP since you have so many bullpen arms.
