Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Sounds like a good deal. We all buy suits for work and don't get this kind of treatment. Okay, but then, you're actually in need of a suit. It really comes down to how he was approached. If they said, "Hey, how would you like to get a new suit?", implying they would pay for it, then it's pretty misleading, don't you think? So Gotstyle gave him 50% off. Who does that benefit if he probably wasn't in the market for a suit in the first place? It benefits Gotsyle, as this was basically an ad for them. They got him to do a commercial without realizing he was doing one, and actually got him to pay them, in the end.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Also, it's interesting to see how many financial advisors there are on the forum! Really had no clue there were so many of you. I'm sure Travis could have comfortably have bought 1, 2, heck even 10 more suits if he wanted. Sure the principle of all this was wrong, and Rogers should really just pay for the suit to make this go away but let's not act like this $1000 suit has placed a financial strain on Devon Travis.

Do explain how he could afford 10 custom suits comfortably at the start of this year when he was probably making as much as you or I up to that point?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Couldn't Travis said 'No. Sorry. My budget doesn't allow for me to drop that kind of money on a suit right now.'

My give a s*** factor is so low that I forgot it was at the beginning of the year. Double checking.. nope, still no sympathy felt for someone who has a salary of over half a million having to buy a $1800 suit for 50% off. I understand this isn't the main point of this thread, but there are people who honestly seem fiscally concerned about Devon Travis.

You're missing the point. They got him to do a commercial that was disguised as a puff piece, and got him to pay for it. Couldn't Travis said 'No. Sorry. My budget doesn't allow for me to drop that kind of money on a suit right now.' He could have, assuming they let him know that he would be the one paying for it. We don't know what the circumstances were.

No, I fully understand the point. I think it's f***ing dumb that Rogers didn't pay for the suit, that Bautista feels the need to play big brother (at least he's keeping to himself), and that there are people on a message board who seem genuinely concerned that a 24 year old with a salary of over half a million dollars had to pay $900 out of pocket for a suit he got at 50% off.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Oh, the segment was actually about Travis buying a suit? I thought he just went on TV for an interview or something and expected Sportsnet to buy his suit. I rule in favour of Travis/Bautista.

Brenner Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Should boycott GotStyle also, they are using Travis for promotional purposes but wont comp the suit? Sleazy.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 What are you talking about? http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=President_and_CEO/Salary High-end ---> $286,069 you said major companies..not every mom and pop company and non-profit. I also said publicly traded companies of which the link you posted was not exclusively publicly traded companies. Give your head a shake. http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/04/04/3423191/ceo-pay-2013/ Look at Rogers alone, the company we are specifically talking about. http://business.financialpost.com/executive/leadership/rogers-communications-inc-racks-up-near-40-million-tab-paying-ceos-in-2013

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 6 f***ing pages guys....jesus....all over which rich person should have paid for some stupid suit. Just go to Moore's and get the 2 for 1.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Sportsnet asked Travis to go suit shopping with them (to an outlet that provides clothes for their on-air talent) as part of a rookie makeover segment, then stuck him with the bill. GotStyle is even using the outing as marketing material: http://blog.gotstyle.ca/press/press-play-gotstyle-makeover-with-devon-travis-hazel-mae-for-sportsnet They took advantage of Travis. Yeah that's bad. How does sportsnet fail so consistently?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Yeah that's bad. How does sportsnet fail so consistently? I think it's on GotStyle no? All that free advertising and they can't give the man the suit? Anyway - why on earth is the girl from GotStyle wearing a moo-moo?? Does she know she's on TV?
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Walmart's "George" brand. Oooo and the matching dress pants are on rollback for $14.99
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I do all my shopping at Value Village, specifically during their Halloween events. I'm a HUGE hit on casual Friday.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 I accidentally donated my Allen Edmonds to Value Village. Someone got a good deal on em
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I accidentally donated my Allen Edmonds to Value Village. Someone got a good deal on em I actually got a pair of Cole Haan's that were brand new @ VV for $25. Most comfortable shoes I've ever owned
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 This reflects so poorly on Sportsnet and GotStyle. They have had a business relationship for a while. It's crazy that they let any portion of the bill slip to Travis. Here is what should have happened: Sportsnet Producer, at end of filming - "OK, so obviously we will be paying for the suit. How much do we owe you?" GotStyle manager - "Are you kidding? This is on the house. You're basically giving us an extended commercial on national television. Just make sure to name drop the store, and get some shots of the front."

Travis is basically paying GotStyle for giving them a Commercial Nationwide and Sportsnet gets their nice little fluff story costing them next to nothing

It's the least they could've done.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Not sure people realize how much league min is... it's more then most president's and CEO's at major corporations make. if you're a CEO and only making 500K you're working for a very small company. my boss was taking in 2.5M and had a 1.8M*3 year parachute. only 90 employees in the company. how much Travis is making is completely irrelevant. He was used and that is wrong.
luggies Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Good on Jose. Speaks his mind and backs it up with action. What more could a fan hope for the teams leader to be.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 If Bautista has that much of a problem then he should pay for the suit. Nice to see him standing up for Travis. But it probably isn't that big of a deal. How do you know he didn't, Beuhrle takes rookies out on the pitching staff and buys them suits. Bautista's protesting out of principle, it's that simple.
