Let's be honest 99% of us are probably kinda bandwagoners. Let's face it, if we were out the race most of us, myself included wouldnt be glued to the TV or radio every single game. I couldn't even fathom missing a game now.

Correct what is the point of watching & cheering for a team with nothing to cheer for e.g. post 1993 Jays. Also I would imagine most fans don't watch other MLB teams play as I haven't watched a World Series game in full since 1993 as just channel surfed them since.

I think it also has to do with baseball being a very boring game with nothing on the line to root for. With NHL & NBA you can still find solace in watching star players on the other teams when they come in and thus find some form of excitement which the MLB doesn't offer.

That's fine. But don't call yourself a baseball fan because you're clearly not.

No offence, but why are you here?

I had two tickets for tomorrow's game for my girlfriend and me. I bought them the same day the Jays acquired Price, although I actually wasn't aware at the time. My girlfriend is in the hospital so I sold them on StubHub since it wouldn't feel right to go without her. Does that make me the anti-bandwagoner?

That's no excuse not to go. Blue Jays tickets are blue jays tickets. Your girlfriend is in the hospital? Pussification of North America!

(hope she gets better soon)

The $140 I made off the tickets takes a bit of the sting out of not going.

(thanks)

Many of the posters on this forum have called the jays a .500 team, or a team that might only win 70 games, a team that has no pitching, a team that should trade away Bautista EE and basically "blow up the team" since spring training.... the argument could be made that they are in fact bandwagon fans imo

That makes no sense. A bandwagon jumper is someone who pays no attention to the team until it's good. Not someone who is willing to spend the time on an online forum contemplating the best strategy for the team going forward so that it might have a chance to win three years down the road. There is literally an infinite amount of more productive things to do in life than to peruse a baseball message board. Those who do it do it out of passion.

It's pretty lame for people to sign up as bandwagonners (not that there's anything wrong with that) and then try to act like dedicated fans of baseball like many on this board wouldn't be watching the Blue Jays or any other baseball for that matter if the team wasn't good. To try to argue that baseball is too boring and thus many of us wouldn't be watching if the Jays weren't good is quite honestly idiotic in a BASEBALL MESSAGEBOARD. This is a beautiful sport and many of us are in baseball fever year-round.

I watch a lot of baseball because I like watching baseball. I like it when other people want to watch baseball too and talk to me about it. I'm not going to get angry that too many people in Toronto are suddenly into the sport. It's a good thing.

If they really do make the divisional series, I'll have no problem shelling out $100+ or whatever for a playoff ticket. That isn't that much money in the grand scheme of things and who knows when the next Jays playoff run will come.

This. I am just happy that at least there are more people talking about the team I've followed for so long. It was a dead zone in Calgary for a long time. The reality is most fans are bandwagon casual fans.

Jays Care asked me to organize a fund raiser with oil/gas guys who would write $5000 checks at my office a couple years ago with Alomar and the old players and the interest level was embarrassingly low. Sad reality is only winning changes that for most.

Agree and also I'll add that up until 1993 the Jays had become more popular than the Leafs b/c one team was winning and the other was constantly losing. Also I should add that other team is still constantly losing lol!

The Leafs made it to the Conference finals in 92 and 93, it was good times. We get it you're a casual fan, nothing wrong with that. Don't see why on a baseball forum any other talk of sports you like is relevant, no one cares. Just enjoy the ride. Go Jays Go! Go Bucs Go!

I need to buy huge series tickets before the season starts in case of runs like this. Then sell them to bandwagon fans.

Also if someone ever mentions "Toronto sports teams suck and finally one is winning", they're probably band wagoners.

Also this is fine because there are more productive things to do than breathlessly follow mediocre pro sports teams.

I band wagoned hard with the Raptors the last two years. I was such a band wagoner that once something more interesting to me happened (baseball season) I completely stopped watching basketball. I didn't even see a single Raps playoff game. I didn't even know they got bounced until like a day later.

Wtf? Worst post ever? Jays_fever is right, you're not actually a baseball fan, which is fine, I welcome band wagoners, nothing wrong with it at all.

Most people on here don't find baseball boring and even in the worst years there is something to watch for like the next rookie to be called up or trade deadline drama etc. Majority of posters on here have watched and been a fan every year win or lose.

To me, there's no other sports that I love as much as baseball. There is so much to it. I am a huge Habs fan, watch all their games but the Blue Jays still comes first in my books. They made the playoffs only 5 times in 38 years. Enjoy whats happening now because it's very special. I hope we keep AA for a long time. He's the one that made this happened. The man is a workaholic and he's always looking to make our team better. He's not perfect but imo he is the best in his field.

As many of you know, I moved to Canada 3 years ago. I chose Toronto as a location to live in over Vancouver as I wanted to have a city which had MLB.

Over 3 years I've been turning up to half empty stadiums and sitting on my own watching hit and miss baseball teams. Regardless of the results I had a blast.

As I've only been here 3 years, you could call me a bandwagon jumper. But in fairness I couldn't really make games living in Scotland.

I didn't have the money to buy a season ticket or flex pass this year and simply bought all my tickets off of stubhub.

NONE of the Canadian guys at my work ever wanted to go to baseball.

Now they are winning and look playoff bound, I can't afford the $60 a game due to all the people jumping on the bandwagon.

I just ran down to the ballpark to try and buy a flex pass for the rest of the season and have since found they are sold out.

The chances of me getting playoff tickets are about 0 out of 10.

I can only imagine how pissed some of the guys who have been going for 20+ years feel.

Anyway, next season I'm buying a season ticket. It's not economically worth it, but screw being in this situation again.

Does anyone know if the Jays will have a deal where if you sign up for a season ticket for next year, you get the option of 2015 playoff seats?

I know the Raptors done this.

Screw bandwagon jumpers. Lets go Jays

Did not read word for word but I think I get the jist. Teams need "bandwagon fans". These fans can turn into long term, passionate fans. If you wanted tickets you should have bought them before the other people. That's how these things work.

Lol bandwagon fans definitely do not "turn into" long term passionate fans.

not ALL, but there is always residual effect that will turn some casuals into more dedicated fans.

A lot of fans can trace their fandom back to a playoff run. For many it was 92-93. For older guys like me it was 1985.

Very true I am not a MLB fan or baseball fan but just a Jays fan since around 1989 when I started following.

Yes I know MLB has star players but what I meant to say is that they don't get the same kind of attention that a Lebron James gets when he visits your local city.

Ichiro coming into town always packed the Dome full of Asians...

Yep and I guess those fans were a different type of bandwagon altogether. I never liked the idea of one nationality just coming out to support their own countrymen even though they don't really follow the sport. I couldn't stand when fans came to see Jeremy Lin as a member of the Knicks at the ACC back in 2013.

You're dumb. Who gives a s*** how much attention they get? Seriously go back to watching other sports you are a disgrace.

No, you aren't a Jays fans "since... 1989." The word "since" implies you continuously supported the Jays up to now, which is clearly not true. Which is fine, there is nothing to be ashamed of. You just like to support winning/non-boring teams.

I haven't supported any other MLB team since 1989 other than the Jays even though I stopped watching regularly around 95/95 doesn't mean I didn't support the team as I did just by rooting for them in the standings & scoreboard watching. And yes 1994-2014 can be considered as boring as the Jays gave me no excitement as the games were mostly meaningless and thus nothing to be really happy or angry about.
