bowld Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 No. These deals never work out. It's amazing that no matter how often 200+M mega deals blow up, fans continue to want their team to sign them. Can't we just enjoy him for the time he's here while recognizing that it's best to let some other team make the giant mistake? No, we gave up too much to have a 2 month rental. Need to at least try to get him to stay around

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 If the owner is willing to spend the money then it shouldn't matter. That's silly. The budget isn't unlimited. And under a limited budget $30 million per year for 7-8 years on an an asset that stands very little chance of being worth it is $30 million per year that can't be invested elsewhere.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 At least with competent players it's a lot harder for people to grasp at things to blame on Gibby. About time he was given something to work with.
bowld Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 After hearing Price's post game interview I honestly think if we make a run and sell the place out he will have a desire to stick around

nextyear Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Nice win by the Blue Jays. It is great having David Price on the Blue Jays. It was great for AA to bring in all these impact players in the off-season and over the past week; mediocrity was getting to be so annoying.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Anybody found a link to the Price post-game interview? It was streamed live at the top mlb.com home page, along with Gibby's. They might post it after.

Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 35-20. Let's do it. Gotta win a bunch of games at home. Road wins might be hard to come by.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Sure if Price wants to sign a team friendly deal then sure. But I'll place my bets on him going with the money. If that's the case then I wish price the best if luck elsewhere. I'm not paying 7+ years for a 30 year old pitcher at 30 AAV.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 What a stupid last question..."Hey david, no one ever wants to play for Toronto, how do you feel playing there?" What do you expect, the guy who asked that question was Cafardo, the national writer for the Red Sox.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 What a stupid last question..."Hey david, no one ever wants to play for Toronto, how do you feel playing there?" he's politically correct to a fault. Didn't want to say anything good about TO without saying something good about everywhere else as well. hvae to agree that the last question was pathetic but Price handled it well. If Price is only a Jay for 2 months lets hope he's unbeaten for those 2 months.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I was thinking you could offer him a Stanton type deal where you hope he opts out at a certain point, but he's too old for that to work. Maybe if you front loaded it big time. Like 40 million a year for the 1st 2 years then 20 million for the next 6, letting him opt out after year 3 or something... But that is a historically expensive pitcher.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Ventura apologized lmao Likely the most immature player in the game, he'll be up to his antics soon enough before he gets his clock cleaned at some point.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Price just said this crowd and atmosphere was the most amazing he has ever played in front of. Said today topped his playoff games. That says a lot Just electric. I can't wait to go to LA for 3 gms this month. AA has gone all in and I'm still not believing we could have an IF of JD, Tulo, Travis and Smoak playing behind David f***ing Price. Waiting for an E-Rex rampage to happen. He is hitting th ball hard last few games.

Offensively Devon Travis is good but defensively he is at best average.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Did the Jays officially D/L Travis???
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Strongly disagree. I can understand people liking Devon Travis because he is certainly a good hitter. I think he is similar to Aaron Hill. The Blue Jays had an exceptional record when Goins played 2B and Reyes played at SS because Goins was able to make up for Reyes' lack of range whereas Devon Travis couldn't. If it had of been Reyes and Travis for most of the season then I think the Blue Jays would have been several games under .500 (as they were when Reyes and Travis played) and likely wouldn't have been buyers at the trade deadline. Goins doesn't get much attention but his play at 2B when Reyes was at SS had much to do with keeping the Blue Jays in the race. The good thing for Travis is that with Tulowitzki at SS there won't be as much required defensively from Travis at 2B, so I think the Blue Jays will be fine when he returns. Just to be clear, I am not saying that Travis is bad at 2B, he is decent, but more than that was required to compensate for Reyes' lack of range at SS.

nextyear Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 ohhhhhh boy Look at highlights of past games and forget about your dislike for Goins. Now that Tulowitzki is playing SS he is getting to most of the ground balls up the middle. When it was Reyes at SS and Goins at 2B it was usually Goins getting to those ground balls up the middle from the 2B position. The combination of Reyes at SS and Travis at 2B was 10 games under .500. That has nothing to do with random luck, the combination Travis and Reyes just didn't work. However, Devon Travis is good and I can understand fans liking him. I am fairly confident that the combination of Tulowitzki and Travis will be good. It just peeves me that Goins made a contribution and he seems to get so much hate from some fans.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 No one is hating on Goins. He is what he is, an all-glove guy (with overrated defense IMO) who hits very poorly buts occasionally has a decent day at the plate.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
