jays76 Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) A little forward thinking as we're not even in a wildcard spot yet but do you guys think it's possible for the Jays to catch the Yankees and take the AL East? I figure the Jays would have to go 8-5 in the remaining series against them (13 games) to have a realistic shot. That's 3 games and then they'd need to make up the other 3 games with the rest of the schedule. The only problem is the Yankees aren't losing much these days and have an easier remaining schedule imo. The Jays will really have to tear up the league for the rest of the season. If we somehow pull it off though we avoid the 1 game wildcard where we could get turfed and also the AL's top seed in our first series. Thoughts? Edited August 3, 2015 by jays76
Caper Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I think we are going to catch them... Though that answer could change by next week.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 The Yankees need to implode for us to have a shot at the division. If they go on a 6-15 run we will catch them. I do like our chances for a wildcard spot and even a win in the wildcard game. With price pitching and our offense behind him, we have a legit shot of making a playoff series by less conventional means.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Can they? Yes. Will they? The odds are against it. The Jays would have to murk them in the head to head games remaining to have a shot.
Mac Outlaw Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 It's out of our hands, depends on the Yankees. If they tear it up, no, we won't catch them. All we got to do is take care of our own business, get into the Wildcard game, then show the league who their Daddy is. I ain't afraid of no f***ing wildcard game, or any team in the AL.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Can and will Jays >>>>> Yankees
flafson Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 It's hard to know really, right now the projections say we have a 15.7% chance to win the division while the Yankees have a 75.1% chance.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 6 back isn't insurmountable and the Yanks appear to be playing over their heads......Pineda's injury certainly hurts them as well. Can't get too caught up in trying to catch them, just win games and hope we win 9/13 against them. If we do we have a great shot

Ehjays Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 6 games out is nothing, just make one game up per week.

To be honest a 1 game wildcard scares the s*** out of me, this is baseball and anything can happen. Price has an off night, bats go silent, etc.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 If the Yankees don't stop scoring a zillion runs every game, then no we won't catch them.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Jays need to win 5 games every week rest of the year including winning all remaining series against the Yankees.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Let's first win today and go from there.
jays76 Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Jays76, Would you take the one game wild card right now? Absolutely. Would I still be nervous that anything could happen in 1 game of baseball? Hell yes!
baloojayz Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Yanks are due for some kind of losing streak. We play them a lot the rest of the way, so it's likely it will come against us.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Absolutely. Would I still be nervous that anything could happen in 1 game of baseball? Hell yes! The whole playoffs are like a 1 game wild card really, anything can happen so of course you take it. Hard to find a team that would be the outright favourites to win in a 1 game matchup vs. us. Why do we even want to catch the Yankees? If we're not confident we can win 1 game, how are we gonna win it all when the rest of our rotation will be exposed? So many people don't want to go up against Dallas Keuchel. LMAO the Astros have to go up against Price AND the Jays offense. The Jays should rightfully GTFO if they still can't win.
jays76 Verified Member Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Let's first win today and go from there. For sure it's one game at a time. I don't want to get over presumptuous but I do think we'll lock up a WC position soon with the AL East becoming a possibility down the road. Just speculation at this point but thankfully we have the opportunity to speculate having 13 games left with the Yankees. Can't wait!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Jays probably have the best team in the AL now, and I'm always pessimistic on their chances. If Dickey's truly found his command again, if Hutch can stop being unlucky, we've got a great shot and those aren't huge asks. Just imagine if we get Stroman back. Best offense, now with Tulo/Revere good defense, and with Price decent rotation. Bullpen is sneaky good, people still think it's bad for some reason. I'm pretty optimistic about playoff baseball this year. Really hope we f*** over the Oriloles in the process.

The Jays should rightfully GTFO if they still can't win. They only go up against Price is he didn't just pitch to secure our wild card berth. There's no guarantee he's available. Winning the division has so much value these days that the fact the Yanks didn't do anything at the deadline to stomp on our throats is surprising.

I have to put the odds at 70%+ that we see him in September the way he's been working and talking about it.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Win today ties us for the second WC. Hopefully Price has a good game today.

ROFL, Price IS pitching even if the wildcard game is the same day he pitched to secure our wildcard berth. Also winning the division has a lot less value these days b/c of the second wildcard and given what KC and SanFran did last yr.

This is baseball my friend, powerhouse pitchers and teams lay stinkers all the time. Obviously we want to catch the Yankees to avoid a situation like that and increase our odds of going further into the playoffs by playing a full series. I like Buehrle behind Price, he's a solid pitcher and has big game experience and believe it or not I'm even ok with Dickey out there starting game 3, he's a different and better pitcher later on in the year (as his statistics have shown). At this point it's Trout and the Angels we'd be taking on, the Astros might very well be taking that division.

Dickey is usually hot garbage in the spring and then thrives in the late summer every year, the heat & humidity really help his knuckler dance. Stroman coming back would be massive! I like our bp now, pretty well rounded with decent options after the pickups plus Sanchez coming back.
