Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I say no. I think if they were going to, it would've been yesterday or before. We know we don't really ever make deals on deadline day.
nonamejays Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I expect the new guy to take Dubront's spot in the rotation.

We know we don't really ever make deals on deadline day. Why isn't this just in the deadline thread? You also realize that it takes 2 to tango right? It doesn't matter when the Jays are ready to do something, if they don't have anyone else to do it with nothing will materialize.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 has to happen Haren for minor pieces is my hope
sdyment Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I think AA has correctly read that it will be a buyer's market and will steal someone late.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 It would be nice. I don't want a trade for the sake of a trade or a trade that sends out too many (or even a decent) prospect(s) for a rental or someone crappy. Anything better than what we've been throwing out as a #5 starter would be nice. Someone who can stick for another year or two who can win us games would be OK. I doubt anything significant will come since the prices are high and unless AA pulls another ninja move and gets a player under control for a few more years out of the blue, I don't see anything really happening. Maybe a minor pick up. I hope I'm wrong and the Jays land a nice addition at the deadline but I'm not going to hold my breath or bet on it.

We know we don't really ever make deals on deadline day. I'm not really sure why you think yesterday (or the day before) are any more likely to be trade days than tomorrow or Friday. Deals can materialize at any time. There's no reason to see a deadline before the actual deadline. As for whether AA will make a move? If he finds a deal he likes and his trade partner is happy with it, one will get made. If not, no trade will happen. I think this is pretty much standard operation procedure to begin with. The trade deadline hype just makes s*** sound super immediate, but these deals probably often ferment for a long time.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Wouldn't surprise me if he acquires Leake or a package of Kennedy+Ross or maybe he is just hiding to the media an other homerun like King Felix
admin Site Manager Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Hope not but I could see AA going after Haren.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'd be happy with Haren and he would cost nothing (both salary and value wise). Also he would become our better pitcher as he is a mid 3 ERA and an amazing inning eater
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I think we add another mid rotation guy. Not sure our prospect pool can handle a David Price type of hit. Dan Haren would make alot of sense.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Haren and Shields would not cost much, but salary. Suddenly a very respectable rotation. Dickey and MB likely gone anyway. Shields and Stroman can front the rotation in 2016.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 His last three big moves were Donaldson, Martin, and Tulo. Going by that trend, it will be King Felix.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 As long as they don't spend anything more than a mid level prospect on a SP rental I will be ok. If they trade one or more prospects not named Alford on a number three or better starter with at least two years of control I will be ok.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Hope not but I could see AA going after Haren. any big deal would empty our prospects and most likely EE. Jose possibly if they get an outfielder in the deal. I fear a Miami type deal that moves a lot of pieces both ways.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 hoping for Shields and Kennedy but doubt it
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 the way the jays roll they will probably get cespedes to play left
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Controllable and expensive. Lots of money coming off the books next year, now is the time.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Here is a question...the Marlins got $10M from the Dodgers for Haren, if they trade him can they keep the $10M and actually net a profit of $3.6M?

If Billy Bean can get his soda machine filled I guess it's not against the rules. (not sure if that story is true or just myth though)
jays76 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 He's got all the tools to do something- prospects, roster players to work with, buyers market, salary this year (upwards of 10M) and money coming off the books next yr also. AA's on the bubble and the team appears to be going for it. He's never been in a better position to acquire a starter (or two). And he may never be in a better position again like this to acquire a starter at the deadline. I'd be SHOCKED if he didn't pull a ninja move before Friday.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 As bad as the rotation is now, it will be very easy to fix in the winter. Could be a minor pickup before friday but Norris and Stroman ain't going nowhere. Stroman Hutch Sanchez Norris Estrada Osuna?? Buehrle?? 1 quality FA signing should be more than enough to fill out the rotation for next yr. If AA is to be fired in the offseason, there is nothing he can do (including Tulo) at this point to stop it...short of winning the World Series.

I think Buehrle definitely retires next yr and Estrada is gone but who knows. That's a good young rotation but I could see him keeping Sanchez in the pen, picking up Dickey's option and grabbing another starter (a potential ace to replace Buehrle's salary).

Yeah that's what I see too. To do that now though you lose Norris which makes no sense. Or we go after someone risky and regret it. Also if Sanchez isn't starting next yr, he's pretty much not getting out of the bullpen. I think he has shown enough to be starting. He'll be more prepared next year.

I would be shocked if Osuna isn't given a chance to start. Kid has 3 quality pitches. His repertoire isn't suited as a reliever, he's just excelling there in the interim. The Jays obviously will have the cash to go get a pitcher even if it's not one of the many number 1s available in the offseason.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 If Dickey keeps pitching well then the Jays would have to pick up his option. Who else do they have for next year's rotation aside from Stro and Hutch?

Do you want me to explain why Norris, Boyd, Sanchez, Osuna, etc, are not realistic rotation options for 2016 or can you actually figure it out yourself? I'm not expecting you to, but thought I'd ask just to be nice.
