Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Let's look at this trade as 3 separate deals: Would you do Tinoco for Hawkins? Would you trade Castro to get rid of Reyes's salary? Would you trade Hoffman for Tulo? No, no, and yes
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/mlb/toronto-blue-jays-new-shortstop-troy-tulowitzki-hits-homer-two-doubles-in-win-over-philadelphia-phillies I love Tulo's no BS, straight honesty attitude “I have nothing but good things to say about him,” Tulowitzki said. “Jose brings energy to the ballpark every day. It seems like his teammates love him, so it definitely puts me in a tough situation. “At the same time, I know what I can do. I know what I’m about. I’m confident in myself as a person and teammate, so I think the guys will come to see what I bring. Not force the issue, (but) let them judge for themselves and we’ll talk about the difference between me and Jose when the season’s over.”

Nafro Verified Member Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Lol this trade looks great for us. Reyes is suspended, Tinoco has thrown nothing but gasoline on a tire fire this year. So we were able to get out from under a 22 million dollar contract for a player not playing cause he's suspended, for one of the best short stops baseball. We gave them one top pitching prospect, and a shut down reliever. It would be worth that to not have 22 million of dead money on our roster. This was a good trade for both sides.

Otherwise your clearly a f***tard, and deserving of one of the few people I ignore on this site. People seem to forget the massive boost the Jays got last year. I think most people would agree the Jays don't make the playoffs if that trade doesn't happen.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 The only reason this trade would be bad is if Tulo becomes a below-average hitter. Tulo has an additional 3 years on his contract compared to Reyes, but at least Tulo plays great defense. Reyes would have been a dumpster fire for 2016/2017. Castro could be a decent starter, and Hoffman has great upside, but Tulowitzki is a premium player at a premium position.

Someone pointed out the other day that Votto went through a similar post injury dry spell but now that he's closer to 100%, he looks a lot like the old Votto.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Considering Reyes turned out to be like $40 Million of dead money you could say we got Tulo for 5/60 for Hoffman, Tinico, and Castro in a way. Hoffman looks pretty good but I'm not confident the Rockies will even be able to the same level of value out of the pitchers that a different Org. would.

Votto during his post injury dry spell still had an OBP near .400. lol what a beast

Yeah he hit like 5 home runs in half a season and had a sub .800 OPS. Also the leg injuries seemed chronic. That was the point that I bought him in the DDL.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 I'm buying a Tulo jersey this week!!!! I'm buying a Souza Jr. in the off-season. We'll see which one is more liked in 2 years. I never did get my Souza Jr. jersey...but I know which one I'd rather have now. Who has put up more Wins since the trade...Tulo or Reyes? I'd have to guess it's close.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 I never did get my Souza Jr. jersey...but I know which one I'd rather have now. Who has put up more Wins since the trade...Tulo or Reyes? I'd have to guess it's close. He's honestly unwatchable at the plate, he seems to pop up on the infield at least once a night. I'm surprised his defense hasnt fallen off though, it saved him in 2016 from not having an awful season, but if that goes down the drain we're looking at another bautista.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 and was a year younger than Tulo is right now. Tulo won't ever be hated here though...cause he's white. He didn't hit hated status...just forgotten.

It's only that close because this year Tulo had zero WAR and Reyes somehow put up 2 WAR when his career looked done after being released by the Rockies. Tulo was a 3 WAR player in 2016 (2.9).

Are you looking at fWAR? Cause I have it at 3.7 for Tulo and 3.3 for Reyes. Since the trade I think Tulo has been an 94 wRC+

Since the trade I think Tulo has been an 94 wRC+ Yeah you're not including the remainder of 2015 after the trade when Reyes was -0.4. Tulo was 1.4, added to his 2.9 in 2016 = 4.3.

Since the trade I think Tulo has been an 94 wRC+ and let me guess...at the time of the trade you predicted Tulo would put a 94 wRC+ over his next 2 and a half seasons. So what do you predict Tulo's wRC+ will be next year?

So what do you predict Tulo's wRC+ will be next year? that can't be predicted. we know he is capable of 120, even higher, or he could continue to decline to 90 or less. Gun to my head, 95 is a reasonable prediction. With declining range in the field.

So what do you predict Tulo's wRC+ will be next year? Predicting decline for an injury prone player in his 30's is pretty reasonable. Even at the time of the trade it was clear the Jays were getting Tulo's twilight. It was just a matter of how many good years he had left before he fell off.
