intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Gibbons managed very well tonight. Used the right guys in the right situations. And the Jays lose. Last night, Gibby made a few mistakes and the jays won. Managers have NOTHING to do with a team's W-L record. I wouldn't say this is true, but good moves tend to be invisible. Donaldson hitting second is one of them. It's probably given a lot more value than some of Gibs' dumber moves have taken away. I'm not saying the effect is as extreme as some think, but there is an effect.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 your not serious are you? I am dead serious. This loss is not Gibbons' fault.

IronLadle Verified Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I am dead serious. This loss is not Gibbons' fault. I don't think the loss is Gibby's fault either. But Bautista credits a lot of his success to Cito and Murphy for helping him with his swing, Smoak credits Ron Washington for helping him with his D. Showalter alway's seems to have good defensive teams. Gibby to me is just a guy who fills out the game sheet, he's not going to make anyone better or worse, and he's not very good at that.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Yeah I can't really see anything to blame on Gibby today except for that strange decision to use Hutch in the 9th (which didn't end up costing us). Maybe the only thing I would have done differently is switch out Navarro for Martin at Catcher to strengthen the defence further, but it's hard to do that to a guy who just hit a game tying hr, and really, is pretty much in hindsight.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I am dead serious. This loss is not Gibbons' fault. Looking at wins/losses doesn't mean that Gibbons is a good/bad manager. If we had a line-up with Donaldson hitting 9th and we still won, you would think Gibbons is still a good manager? He made poor decisions in this game. He left Estrada in for too long to face Gregorius when he could have used the lefty there. And he put Drew Hutchison in this game, when I have more faith in Hawkins/Tepera/Schultz over him.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 Gibby still f***ing sucks...will always f***ing suck. Been fired by the Jays once, will be fired again (at some point)

I actually thought the unusual Hague-Martin pinch hit game was interesting.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I hate Gibby, but this was on the offence's inability to come through with bases loaded.

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I actually thought the unusual Hague-Martin pinch hit game was interesting. And it's these types of moves that go ignored while people look for ways to blame him for any loss. Granted it's the same in almost every city - managers take a lot of unwarranted blame - but in Toronto you get a lot of hate for Gibby when he's actually a good manager and certainly a better choice than many other MLB skips. One of the problems is that many fans don't follow any team but their own.....or watch many games involving other teams. If you do then you realize that "questionable" decisions are made by managers all over the league all the time. You also realize that sometimes these questionable decisions are actually logical decisions which are made because of information you don't have (guys not feeling 100%, scouting reports etc).
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I hate Gibby, but this was on the offence's inability to come through with bases loaded. Some guys are so upset about this. But easy to forget A-Rod K'ed with the bases drunk off Hendriks on a slider way off the plate. It happens to all teams. When we were uber hot JD and/or Edwin were getting hits almost always in those situations. They didn't last night. Simple as that. We miss Tulo. Bird is killin us and they need to figure out a book on him....like today. Both pitches he hit out have been bottom of the zone.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Other than going to Hutch in the 9th inning of a one-run game against the Yankees, I think Gibbons did well. I have no idea how Hutch gets the call at that moment.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Gotta love the off day yesterday then today we have Goins, Pillar, Pennington, and Barney in the lineup. Gibby the village idiot

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 do you have a clue about managing a MLB team? The value of rest to a player? Colabello definitely needed another day off, 2 weeks isn't enough for him. Donaldson apparently needs 2 days off (day and a half) cause you know that's how Gibby runs s***. But Pillar has 1 day off on the year, so he must play right. Gibby is an idiot and it's clear as day my friend

Gibbons is not infallible, but be reasonable in your criticism

This is a thread to vent and complain about a horrible manager. You have your opinion and I've expressed mine.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 It's well known that JD is banged up. No better time than to slot him in the DH spot than against the light hitting Rays. Nothing wrong with today's lineup.

Nothing wrong with today's lineup. Because we own the division title and we own the Rays? Cause neither of those things are true. Everybody is banged up this time of the year. If we didn't have a non travel off day yesterday it makes more sense to me. Not a huge deal. Hope Yips makes the plays and it helps JD
venema20 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Are people actually mad at Gibby for DHing Donaldson? The guy is clearly banged up and needs a rest. So either he doesn't play at all or is DH. What would you rather have? Donaldson is struggling big time right now, maybe some time off from the field gets him back in his groove and gets him that much needed rest.

Donaldson hasn't had a problem in the field so DHing him to give him a rest is bull. His problems have been hitting, but he isn't off today, just DHing.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Pickoff, how can you STILL have Gibby's back after the questionable moves he makes on a day-to-day basis?
