Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Great win by the Gibber! pinch hitting Carrera for Valencia ... sticking with Cola for yet another game winning knock ... exceptional use of the pen etc. etc. Not really. Left Hutch in far too long.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Travis sits for Goins...really wtf *shrug* I'd prefer Travis, but I can understand sitting him for this game. Travis has played the last 8 games after coming off an injury, not a horrible time to rest him for Goins. Also, if you want to play small sample size bingo, Goins is 3 for 5 with a home run against Walker...

Plus we have another day off tomorrow right
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I can't fault Gibbons for giving players days off. If the Blue Jays are to make a run for the playoffs their top players will have to remain healthy. I like Goins' defense but Devon Travis has shown himself to be a better hitter and decent 2nd baseman. However, I don't think that starting Goins at 2B today will hurt the Blue Jays. I think it would actually help the team to give Reyes 2 days off each week at SS and play Goins. Having Reyes fresh will be a big benefit for the Blue Jays over the coming two months. Devon Travis will be available for pinch hitting if needed (assuming he doesn't have the flu that has hit a couple Blue Jay players)
CaptMurphy Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Until Reyes is out of SS permanently, and until Collabello is out of LF permanently, this team is doomed to mediocrity. In other words, Gibbons must be fired and a manager with a functioning brain must be hired. Move Reyes to LF. You keep his bat but lose all the grounders through his legs. Reyes cannot play a worse LF than Collabello, (I might not be able to play a worse LF than Collabello), and with Goins at SS you get great D where it matters. Please fire Gibbons.

I just wish they would give Reyes a day off here and there, wasn't it their plan to rest him more this year? It might benefit him and the team to let him recharge his batteries for a game or 2 a week, but then again, Goins can't stick so...

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Okay I'm on the fire Gibby train. This is getting ridiculous Managers are meaningless, they only select which pitcher to pitch and which batter to hit, and which positions are filled by whom. These things dont matter in Baseball.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Okay I'm on the fire Gibby train. This is getting ridiculous Welcome aboard. You'll get accused of not knowing baseball when you question things like bringing in your 7th reliever in a tie game in the 9th, or giving your 24-year old 2B a day off when there is a team off day the following day, and so on, but it's for the greater good.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 John Gibbons is legitimately a s*** manager right now. Maybe he's always been and I've just been oblivious, but benching Travis and bringing in Tepera and Loup ahead of Osuna, when RODNEY is warning up in the pen and you have an off day tomorrow, none of those moves can be justified with any logical explanation. I don't really care whether or not they fire him because most managers are just as bad and make just as many questionable calls, but Gibbons is terrible at his job.

Agreed.....my problem with Gibby is that he is a f***ing terrible manager, that we all ready fired once. I might be more giving and less harsh if the f***ing idiot managing our playoff hopes was anybody that we hadn't fired within the last 15 yrs.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Yeah Gibbons is pretty bad. Playing the wrong guys is pretty much the only way managers can impact the game and he is doing it far too often now. I just don't know if there's someone good looking for a job. Most managers are really dumb. I was watching the Rockies and Reds and Walt Weiss called for DJ LeMahieu to bunt in the third inning after a Blackmon lead-off double, while playing in Coors and down by 2. Gibbons isn't optimal but let's remind ourselves that there are worse out there.

He managed a team with the best pitching in baseball and a 90+ Pythag and fired at below .500. Now he's managing a team with the most runs scored and best run differential (or close to it) in baseball and is .500. Nepotism has hurt a perfectly good chance of making the playoffs this year.

A manager can't play the wrong guys if they aren't on the team. both teams played s*** today. Jays just made the last mistake.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I really hope they can him in the offseason, I've been OK with Gibby for the past 2 years but this season has been a complete disaster. So many games could have been won with better managing. Play the best f***ing player available, not your god damn hunches and personal favorites.

Just because there's worse doesnt mean we should be content with incompetence.

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 As much as I've poked fun at people who have needlessly jumped on Gibby at every moment the past couple of years, this year he's taking away that brand of sarcasm from me. Too many poor decisions to ignore at this stage.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 You could give Gibby the f***ing all-star team and he'd guide it to a .500 season, with a +200 run differential
