Agreed. If Price is really so emotionally sensitive then he probably is not a good fit anyway. But in reality, that isn't the case, Rosenthal must have too much time to kill by writing nonsensical articles.

Most baseball writers are only worth reading in the off-season, and only because they're a good source of news. During the season, it's mostly narratives surrounding the game rather than the game itself.

 

First half: Who should be an all-star?

Second half: Who should be MVP/Cy Young?

Postseason: Who will re-sign and which scandals will prevent teams from signing certain players?

 

It's all unreadable to me, to be honest. I've just found Rosenthal to be one of the most palatable in general.

Signing a 30 year old pitcher to a 200 million dollar contract is probably not a great idea. Several of us have been saying this since August.

I think after seeing what happened with Bumgarner last year, you realize using your best pitcher in unconventional circumstances, can make the difference. I'm sure the Astros wish they would have maybe tried something like that.

 

David Price will sign where the best offer for him comes from. You literally get one chance to pick your work environment, terms of your contract. These has pretty much been dictated to you your entire career. Its not all about money...but its kind of all about money.

Price has a shitload of mileage on his arm, is in his 30's, and will get at least a seven year deal starting at $200m.

 

I don't agree with the way the Jays used him yesterday, but who cares if he leaves after the season? His next contract has very little chance of being worth it for the team that signs him.

What do you guys think about the quoted paragraph. Do you think it will play in Price's mind how he was managed in the post-season?

 

It was Price that approached them, He was saying give me the ball. Has nothing to do with game 3 or 4 but rather the fact that Gibbons said he is not available for game 5. Price wants that ball.

Great a breaking stories and one of the most trusted that way... I never read much of his articles besides that so i don't know.

I think Rosenthal carries himself well and is a true professional when it comes to straight reporting. He's kind of halo effecting himself here, me thinks.

His interest columns are about as worth reading as any other writer's, I think.

 

Rosenthal gets points for me because his off season scoops are usually reasonably reported. Lots of other guys seem to just puke out every rumour; Rosenthal always seems to be a bit more careful (or at least that's my take). I don't often roll my eyes when a Rosenthal scoop pops up on my Twitter feed, basically.

No he changed his approach so he can get early contact and go deeper into games. His stuff will still overmatch guys at times but I doubt will see high K numbers from him. His groundball rate however has been incredible.

i have no idea what this means, did the "geeks" ever deny that extreme groundballers can't be good pitchers. Stroman's relatively low K rate is not at all worrying given how many groundballs he's generating, where is the problem here?
