jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The majority of MLB lineups are like that though, at least 3 of them are superb defenders. Plus, Donaldson is DHing to give him a long overdue day off the field.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Nothing wrong with giving your star player a day off the field. Especially when Smoak is not hitting much better then anyone in the bottom 4 spots.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 No, they are not nearly this bad. and yet they have scored about a 100 more runs than anyone in MLB, very lucky to have overcome the manager's incompetence
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Has there been a more dominant stretch for a reliever in Jays history than what Cecil has done over the last three months? BJ Ryan in 2006 Scott Downs was way more dominant in 2008
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Rays lineup--Guyer vs. a RHP, and JPA catching.
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 But Pennington and Barney are new and crappy. It's tough to replace those key players that have gone down with injury. So I'm not complaining, I'm just saying. I wouldn't be in too much despair, there are several players that can pinch hit at anytime. It should also be noted that Goins is hitting above average (wRC+ of 116) since July 3rd (189 plate appearances - http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=9807&position=2B/SS&type=&gds=2015-07-03&gde=2015-09-23&season= ) when he changed his hitting style (both stance and plate discipline). Pillar had a good series against the Yankees when it was needed. I think Pillar will be a multi-year All Star in the future once he consistently shows the plate discipline that he did during the Yankee series. Pennington has had some clutch hits as a Blue Jay and I think Barney was 1 for 2 a couple of nights ago against the Yankees (Barney isn't crappy, he was a past Gold Glove winner). Let's see how many runs are driven in by, and scored by the 6, 7, 8 and 9 hitters tonight. And also, how well Pillar, Barney, Pennington and Goins do on defense; a run saved is just as important as a run scored.

Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Scott Downs was way more dominant in 2008 sarcasm?? 1.1 WAR in 2008
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Wait...Tulo's available?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Goins Pillar Pennington Barney 😂
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) Is this really Josh Donaldson? Donaldson has shed a few pounds since his days as a catcher on the Oakland A's (I think it was very short-lived). Edited September 25, 2015 by nextyear
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Goins Pillar Pennington Barney The Fab 4? That is not encouraging at all. I do not understand this. We are in a pennant race coming off a day off non travel day for the team.
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Wait...Tulo's available? I think he has been on the roster most days, but he probably won't play (he wasn't put onto the DL since there was no need to free up a roster spot). Hopefully they will get him onto the field during the Baltimore series starting on Monday.

We are in a pennant race coming off a day off non travel day for the team. The only real difference is Donaldson getting a day off at 3B. Pillar, Goins and either Pennington or Barney would be playing regardless.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Hope Revere and Pillar get on a base quite a bit. Stolen bases for dayzzzz.

All players are tired at this point. JD slumped early in the season for awhile and now. Doesn't mean he is tired. They happen throughout a season every season. Whatever....Gibby gonna Gibby.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Ew. That bottom four... Why not give Hague a start at 3b?

Donaldson is not in the field for a reason. The guy is a warrior. If he is only the DH, it is for a reason. I'm not crazy about Gibby, but some of the stuff people bitch at him about is ridiculous.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 He's played almost every inning this season. I think he only had 2 DH games this year. His bat's still in the lineup, I don't have a problem with it.

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 If JPA hurts the Jays this weekend, I will cry. I wouldn't throw him a fastball in the zone the entire series.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Random thought, it'd sure be nice to have Valencia on the roster to spell JD, who I think needs a break. Even just to DH for a game or two and which would allow EE to get a little 1B work. Can someone explain to me why we gave him away again?

Plus he could only really play 3b which Donaldson hardly has a game off.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Revised: Holy s*** without Smoak/Cola @ 1st that is one painful looking bottom 4 We're missing our starting SS, starting 2B, and giving our 3B a day off of the field. Lineup is gonna look a bit gross.

Doesn't matter too much anyways, it would amount to maybe a half-WAR difference.
