Tulo just had an offday, it took him an extra day to get here remember?

First time he been playing on the turf, just played 3 games, so they want him to adjust. I don't see that as being an issue to be honest.

DH him then? They don't have that many games left to catch the Yankees, need to get the best lineup they can out there daily

Martin and Tulowitzki will be available to pinch hit, so all is not lost.

I think that Tulowitzki should be rested regularly so he can remain healthy and be productive for another 5 years or more. However, I am disappointed that he won't be in the starting lineup.

I still expect the Blue Jays to win today. Navarro has been making good contact lately so it wouldn't surprise me if he has a home run today.

Martin offday bothers me more. This is the stretch run

I'm telling you guys Gibbons will find a way to keep this team at .500

You can't possibly be upset about your starting catcher getting a day off in a weekend series. This is standard operating procedure for every MLB team.

A question for someone who's a bit more statistically knowledgable than myself: Why does Jose continuously sport a BABIP way under the league average? Pretty much every year other than his monster season in 2011 his BA/OPB had been brought down by his BABPIB. Just based on the eye test it seems like he still makes fairly hard contact but is that not true? Just curious, because if his OPB was consistently around .400 rather than the .360 range I feel like he'd get a lot more respect as one of the great players of this generation.

Good question. :) It's because he hits a lot more fly balls, and fly ball drop much less often for hits than grounders do. While this seems negative, obviously you can't dinger off a grounder, or even double, really. He gets a lot more XBH this way. So while he could have a OBP around .4 if he really wants, it would come at the sacrifice of a lot of power, and it wouldn't be worth it.

A good stat for that is wOBA. It's just like OBP, but it treats HR as more valuable than 3B than 2B than 1B than BB and so on. It's like if you properly combined OBP and SLG (not OPS, better, although OPS is probably the best casual stat).

A loss today can be devastating. Must win if you ask me, I know its early, but you dont want to see .500 again.

Need to win today.

not devastating. That means we split the series against the 2nd best team in baseball. But I think a win would be absolutely huge.

Joe Ross for Edwin. Who says no?

Really makes no sense for Washington unless they can flip Zimmerman, which is pretty doubtful in the middle of the season he's having.

Okay thanks. So in other words his hitting approach will always lead him to be a high power, low average, high OPB kind of player rather than a high power, good average, monster OPB player. And therefore last year would be an outlier? Because last year his wOBA was at an elite level, rather than the very very good level its regularly at. Just trying to figure out his true talent level, and what my view of him as a player should be.

First day on the forum in a bit, can someone explain why the FO DFAed Valencia instead of Colla? I do not get this at all for so many reasons. Please explain this confusing move to me...

Also, I would have optioned Loup as the other move. He's garbage right now.

Do we have to bring it up again, im still pissed off we would do such a stupid thing.

I just don't see any reason for the move, and I know most of you know more than me so I just wanted a reason or two. I didn't want to stir up s***.

Oh you are not stirring s*** up, the Jays are.

Valencia has positional flexibility by being able to play corner spots adequately and even 2B in an emergency and hits lefties really well. Colabello is a DH, DH and DH and is regressing. Not sure why we did it...

The reasoning that we DFAd Valencia from my understanding is that we're making another roster move after the game today that will result in us optioning a pitcher to bring up an OF. They wanted to keep the long 'pen as Dickey is going on shortened rest and there's a good chance that because Valencia was done on August 1st he's on revocable waivers (though I may be wrong on that) and there's a good chance instead of him being traded for 20k like generally happens he may be traded to someone for 500k.

The plan going forward will be to have Pillar, Bautista, Revere and a 4th OF (Pompey) going forward with Travis, Smoak and Cola (platoon) Goins, Donaldson, EE, Tulo going forward.

I think that it was the wrong move and that Cola should have been let go with Valencia kept as he has a lot more utility.

Huge fan of the attitude this team has developed over the last couple of weeks. They expect to win, and rightfully so with the crazy amount of talent we have.

Exciting times to be a Jays fan, the most exciting in 22 years. That said, the Yankees somehow keep on rolling and we are indeed the underdogs in this race.

Hey guys, I'm going to the game tomorrow, what time should I come to get a bobblehead? I got a notification that the gates will be open at 11am.

5am.

...Honestly if you really want one - 10.50am.

Tickets tomorrow are going for double to triple the face value. So awesome to see the fans latch on as a result of the investment by ownership. Hopefully it's a long term message that, unlike before, you build it and the fans will come.

it's more like, you build it, the team starts winning, and then the fans will come.

One of the biggest conundrums with all the big names on this team is in deciding which jersey to get. Do I dare pick up a Price jersey, with his impending free agency? Donaldson/Tulo would be the safer bet I suppose. They really should have Velcro patches to switch 'em up.

I kind of like Ben Revere. I know this might sound stupid, but if this team was down by 1 run with 1 out in the ninth and a guy on 3rd, he might be the the guy I want at the plate. The guy, if nothing else, can put a ball in play, maybe better at that then anyone else on the team. I can't wait to see him on the bases.
