  1. Okay thanks. So in other words his hitting approach will always lead him to be a high power, low average, high OPB kind of player rather than a high power, good average, monster OPB player. And therefore last year would be an outlier? Because last year his wOBA was at an elite level, rather than the very very good level its regularly at. Just trying to figure out his true talent level, and what my view of him as a player should be.
  2. Happy that Revere is batting 9th instead of Goins. Makes more sense to have him hitting in front of Tulo/Donaldson/JB
  3. A question for someone who's a bit more statistically knowledgable than myself: Why does Jose continuously sport a BABIP way under the league average? Pretty much every year other than his monster season in 2011 his BA/OPB had been brought down by his BABPIB. Just based on the eye test it seems like he still makes fairly hard contact but is that not true? Just curious, because if his OPB was consistently around .400 rather than the .360 range I feel like he'd get a lot more respect as one of the great players of this generation.
  4. Yes, but people are pissed off about how indefensible the move is, even if it's comparably small to the other moves that were made this week. No baseball front office should be making moves this bad, no matter how small they are. If someone could provide any logical reason to keep Colabello (or an 8th reliever for that matter) over Valencia I'd be interested to hear it.
  5. Forget about options and contractual stuff, I can't fathom how Gibbons doesn't realize that Colabello is only marginally valuable. Wasn't he batting him fourth the other night? I would love to be able to ask him what he loves about him so much.
  6. I've been a long time lurker going back to the MLB.com message board, but this move finally has me pissed off enough to register and comment. I can't for the life of me understand why the team would give up an asset for absolutely nothing. Either it's a salary dump, which would be ridiculous considering Valencia's making under a mil the rest of the season. Or Gibbons somehow didn't seen any value in Valencia (probably the most likely, I don't have much faith in Gibby). Or it was AA's call, which means he has no clue when it comes to asset management. None of the three possible scenarios give me any faith in this org. I like Colabello just fine for what he is, and he was fun story during a pretty depressing part of the season, but in no universe is he more valuable to this team than Danny V. Especially since he could've came back up in September at the latest. Or you know AA could've finally realized the pointlessness of an 8 man bullpen and sent down Loup/Schultz temporarily. I know Valencia probably won't make the difference between making the playoffs or not, but what a horrible move. Sucks to be hit with this during such an exciting time for the Blue Jays.
