flafson Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Pretty sure MLB runs all accounts and f***s up regularly. The company i work for has indirect contract with MLB and the Blue Jays and the way that it works, everything goes from MLB down. They pretty much run everything for all the teams or at least dictate general things. It's not only MLB like that though, we also have similar dealings with NFL, CFL, NHL, WWE and possibly NBA soon, they are all like that.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Lots of interest on Tyson Ross, not just from the Jays: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25251284/jays-astros-dodgers-rangers-among-teams-looking-at-tyson-ross
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 So the Jays just had 16 of their last 19 games on the road, and their record in those games was 6-10. They'll now play 16 of their next 19 games at home (with the three away games being at Yankee Stadium), and then begin another eight-game road trip with a two-game set in Philadelphia. If they feel like they have a shot at contention and they want to make a real run at the playoffs, the time to act is going to be now. In the perfect world, they beat the s*** out of the Phillies and the Twins and get some upset victories over the Royals, before going to New York to take at least two of three from the Yankees. If the Jays do that, they're probably near or above the division lead after the first week of August, and they have some momentum going into another six game home stand against the A's and the Yankees. If they falter at all in this upcoming home stand however, their chances of making the post season will become virtually non-existent, because at that point they'll have to hope for a Cards/Braves, Red Sox/Rays type September collapse from the Yankees, and they'll have to win a s*** ton of games against the AL East to catch them. If the Jays are really buyers, they should make a move in the next three days instead of waiting until the deadline, so they have the best possible team going into the Royals series. September is probably going to mean the most with all those inter-division games. Jays could be 4-5 GB of the division and sweep the Yankees and be right there at the end.

Strikes out a ton, walks a ton, doesn't give up any HR (high GB%). Not sure that's a good fit as our bullpen tends to blow every lead.

The Jays sweep the NYY like once a decade, I wouldn't really count on it happening when they are both in a pennant race.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Edwin Jackson to the Blue Jays on a minor league deal in 3,2,1....
flafson Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 So it's your fault they are prompting a game tonight that doesn't exist? I deal with credit cards, Twitter is not part of the contract
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 1) Yea I get the feeling MB is going to retire 2) Hell no to Dickey 3) Yes 4) Agreed Estrada is likely gone 5) They'd be idiots not to pick up EE's option at $10MM which is really only $8MM because $2MM is required for the buy out regardless. 6) Stroshow for days. I thought EE's option was $16M. At $10M, hell yeah. But, OTOH, more trade value....
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 There's zero question on if Edwin's option will be picked up, but I do think they should explore trading him and possibly tack on some cheap, team-friendly years at the back of Smoak's deal. I also think they absolutely should QO Buehrle, even though I don't think they will. I feel like he probably wants to be with his family and his dogs enough at this point that there's no way he'll accept a QO to stay in Toronto. He'll either reject it and sign cheap somewhere else to close out his career, or he'll retire. Worst case scenario, he miraculously accepts the offer and you have a solid back-rotation piece for next year at a decent price.

If the Jays are going to make a run, it will be now. 25 of their next 36 games are at home, and then September is almost entirely the AL East. Go on a run with all the upcoming home games and try to break even the rest of the way. They can at least have a shot at one of the Wild Card's in that scenario. However, if they falter in the next week or so, then forget it. Too much ground to make up.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 MB should most definitely be given a QO. 15 mil for one year is worth it based on his performance and influence on others. If he declines either he is forced into retirement or has to take on a much lower contract with another club (as no team is going to sacrifice a 1st round pick for a year or two of him and $15 million a year). Either we get him at 15 mio, or we get a comp pick. Yes, this^^^
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 So assuming Goins at SS tonight ugh
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 So can we figure out how this line up is gonna work? Travis Donaldson Bautista Tulo Edwin Martin Smoak Pillar Cola/Carrera/Pompey
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 So can we figure out how this line up is gonna work? Travis Donaldson Bautista Tulo Edwin Martin Smoak Pillar Cola/Carrera/Pompey I almost wonder if Tulo might be hitting lead off at this point in time. His powers down a bit but he's getting on base at a really solid clip.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 When Tulo is your lead-off hitter, you know your line-up is f***ing stacked.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I understand why they would keep Pompey down if they're gonna trade him but if not then he needs to be up immediately
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I understand why they would keep Pompey down if they're gonna trade him but if not then he needs to be up immediately OF has to be addressed either through trade or through promotion.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Would Hutchinson, Norris+ be close to Carrasco?
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 OF has to be addressed either through trade or through promotion. With Tulo, I don't see why Pompey couldn't be called up. We don't need a lot of offence out in LF. With Tulo and Pompey out there, man our defence looks a lot better. Cola demoted, Smoak FT 1B, and EE fulltime DH. That defence is really solid, man.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 With Tulo, I don't see why Pompey couldn't be called up. We don't need a lot of offence out in LF. With Tulo and Pompey out there, man our defence looks a lot better. Yeah I have no problem with that but maybe a solid OF with an expiring contract can come aboard in a deal and Pompey can be saved for a september call-up and spring training 2016 audition which I would be fine with as well. Trading deadline is only a few days away so I expect the situation to be addressed one way or another very shortly.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I think this sets the Jays up for next year. Do the right thing. They spent less this year than the last. They just traded dollars for dollars. Take the Buehrle, Dickey, Romero, izzy, Navarro money that is freed up at the end of the season and break your 5 year rule and go get a number 1 to go with stroman at the top. I'm sure Osuna will be given the chance to start next year, you have hutch, norris and Sanchez although that could change in the next couple days could change that
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 To me Hutch is expendable. I'd trade him for almost any mid-tier starter. Estrada can also be a trade chip, since he's a FA after this season.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Would Hutchinson, Norris+ be close to Carrasco? Rumour has it that the Indians turned down Hoffman, Norris and Pompey so no Hutch Norris + doesn't get it done.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 go get iwakuma.....you can probably get him for a very reasonable price and have a good chance of resigning him for next year.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 AA has definitely bought himself time.
LTR Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I guess Goins is on SS tonight since Tulo is not expected to be in or ready yet.
BlueBirdBro Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Surely there must be a team that would buy high on Colabello. Even if we get anything at all it's better than demoting him.
