SultanofPoon Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 This is not a playoff team that is obvious.....it is mediocre currently. Way below .500 besides the unsustainable 11 game streak. People getting their hopes up are just hurting themselves. This team does not have the mental toughness, beats themselves and has too many flaws, large flaws like defence and pitching
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Off days for Reyes, EE, Valencia and Colabello: 1. Devon Travis ® 2B 2. Josh Donaldson ® 3B 3. Jose Bautista ® RF 4. Justin Smoak (S) 1B 5. Russell Martin ® C 6. Dioner Navarro (S) DH 7. Kevin Pillar ® CF 8. Ezequiel Carrera (L) LF 9. Ryan Goins (L) SS
LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 No Reyes, no Colabello in the OF, Smoak is in....... WE'RE GONNA WIN (think Tom Hanks in League of Their Own) But wait, it's Dickey....... FML
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 If Mark Buehrle retires would he be a good choice to replace Walker? Or could he be more valuable as a Roving instructor in the minors for us? Still wish and hope we somehow get him extended and he continues to pitch for us too!

You realize Buehrle would never ever stay in Toronto by choice right? He wants to go home to his dogs.

Governator Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 How come on Fangraphs when I go to Teams > Blue Jays the stats for all players are far behind their actual totals? Plate Apperances, WAR, Innings Pitched. Nothing is current http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=ALL&teamid=14
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 People got their wish, Travis now leading off. With Dickey pitching, I'll be more comfortable watching this game knowing Reyes & Colabello aren't on the field. Not that Carerra is an upgrade but Goins will help the left side a lot and Carerra can at least hustle some.

I can't believe the Jays can't find someone better suited to the role. Even if they don't want to call up Pompey, can't they dig up Dewayne Wise or whoever his 2015 equivalent is?

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 FanGraphs crowd-sourcing ranked the Jays front office 14th out of 30 (right where you'd expect them to be): http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/front-office-ratings-by-the-community/
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 The latter part of the list makes sense but Cleveland, NYM, LAD and Tampa are too low. These seem too standings influenced.

nextyear Verified Member Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I was interested in knowing what the Blue Jays record was with Ryan Goins starting at SS or 2B. I tabulated some unexpected results: Jose Reyes at SS and Travis at 2B: Blue Jays team record of 11 WINS and 14 LOSSES Ryan Goins at 2nd base: Blue Jays team record of 17 WINS AND 10 LOSSES Devon Travis at 2nd base: Blue Jays team record of 19 WINS AND 28 LOSSES Jose Reyes at SS From May 25 to June 24 (while Travis was disabled): Blue Jays team record of 19 WINS and 9 LOSSES (Ryan Goins was at 2B for 24 of these games). Devon Travis was playing hurt for part of the time, however, the team record before he was hurt and after he returned is still well under 0.500. I realize that I will get some nasty comments, however, the numbers make me wonder if the problem is really Jose Reyes? Is there a problem with Devon Travis' fielding range or is it possible that he is getting a poor jump on ground balls? The wins and losses indicate that the Blue Jays have the best chance of winning with Reyes at SS and Goins at 2B.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Is it time to shake up this core? Bautista, Reyes, Edwin... Reyes can be moved for a sack of balls for all I care. The other two depends on the return. The longer the team waits, the less their value becomes. If those two are still Jays by this winter, and a new GM is finally in place, then the team might be better off giving the core one more shot. I doubt they'll get a huge prospect haul for one year of control.
