Because a premium starter helps you get to the playoffs. We've had quite a drought.

So you deal 6 years of a good young starter for half a year of Cueto?

It's a seller's market.

If the market is overpriced, you don't just go "oh well" and buy anyway, you don't buy.

agreed, seems like beeston is going to be pushing for something to get done(like the marlins trade) which is VERY scary.

Call it mismanagement, call it bad luck with injures, call it whatever you want. The point is we haven't made the playoffs in forever and this, don't trade assets for a good pitcher because he only has half a year left, won't keep flying forever. We just need to make the playoffs and the city will be happy. Losing a couple good prospects just for a closer and an ace that may walk is worth it when the draught is as long as ours. Teams like St Louis don't make that trade, but Toronto should. It's time we literally just went all-in. You can't waste this offense.

I don't think he will because in the reality of things if they did not have the money in the offseason to get something done then there is a very real chance they don't right now.

they have there lil treasure chest don't they?

At this point I don't think Chapman wants to be a starter anymore

I'm pretty sure he's said as much but that doesn't mean his new team won't want to re-initiate that dialogue.

lol at everyone getting so uptight over who bats 5th/6th. The difference is so miniscule.

No kidding and in the end it made no difference!

How the hell does a knuckle ball pitcher tip his pitches when he and the ball never know where it's going?

If you read the article it mentions that Dickey was tipping his fastball and that was giving opponents a chance to tee off on it. He need the element of surprise to make the fastball effective. It works if the hitter is expecting a knuckleball because it's not like it's actually a good fastball. The article also mentions that he was tipping his throws to first.

heres the espn insider article on suggested JAys trades:

"Proposed trade: LHP Daniel Norris, RHP Liam Hendriks, LHP Jairo Labourt and SS Richard Urena for Cueto and Chapman."

ya OK...thats not even worth Cueto.

Norris and Urena for 1yr of Cueto? I think that should be more than enough.

if I were the Reds I'd ask for two top 25 prospects if possible. I don't think the three other parts of the pieces are worth another 'Norris'

'

If there was still compensation for traded UFA's I;d give that up but now that you don't get compensation for mid-season acquisitions it's way too much to give that up for a rental.

Where are you getting this good young starter to trade for half a year of Cueto? I thought Norris was the top guy involved. He's just a prospect with issues.

Can you teach him how to throw your slider? You'd save his carer.

Scott Kazmir is probably the better choice and wouldn't cost as much as Cueto would. A package of Kazmir and Clippard I see happening.

If Cueto had another year, I probably would consider dealing Norris considering the position the Jays are in. Their window to contend for a World Series is over the next 2-3 years.

Would Beane deal with AA again after we raped him in the Donaldson trade? I doubt it.

Maybe Beane is just an over-rated GM that surrounded himself with the right people.

If anyone else traded away Russell and Donaldson in the trades that he did, in the same year where he signed Billy Butler to a godforsaken 30/3 deal, they'd be ripped the f*** apart. It's actually surprising how little criticism he received for that abysmal 2014. Everybody just wrote it off because they think Beane has some sort of esoteric understanding of baseball that is far beyond any of us. Considering the fact that Donaldson, despite having four years left on his contract, was traded with payroll in mind, that Billy Butler signing is honestly one of the worst baseball transactions I've ever seen.

I find it funny that the general consensus is that the Russell for Shark deal was awful (it was) but then the board wants to deal a good prospect for a pitcher with even less control.

That's not really a relevant comparison though. No one advocating trading a prospect of Russell's stature (considered top 2 by many at the time) because for one thing, the Jays don't have a prospect like that.
