Apparently, the deal fell through again. Cueto hasn't been told and the Royals GM told his broadcast crew that there's no truth to it right now.

It's not that I don't care about what you think, it's just the fact that what you think doesn't align with reality. Despite their record this team isn't that far from contention and the GM has already flat out admitted that SP is a need that he plans on addressing. At this point, standing pat would be a direct indication that he's completely impotent.

I'd rather the F/O stand pat than end up with another s***** trade. Regardless, I was replying to TwistedLogic's question, in bold below:

Follow up post (highlighted response):

Just for shits and giggles, what do people think about the trade scenario he outlined?

Blue Jays receive:

Cole Hamels

Jonathan Papelbon

$30,000,000

Phillies receive:

Daniel Norris

AJ Jimenez

Dalton Pompey and Ryan Borucki or Max Pentecost and Richard Urena

+Dioner Navarro traded in a subsequent move!!!

I probably make the deal for Norris, Jimenez, Pentecost and Urena (I'm one of the few people that actually really likes the Hamels contract), and reject the one that involves both Norris and Pompey going the other way.

Although, moving Norris probably bites you in the ass very quickly.

And again, to me, that's too much to give up.

Now, in terms of how desperate the F/O is, I don't really know for sure, but I'd like to think that AA isn't desperate enough to not realize that making another s***** trade would jeopardize his chances of a future GM job with another org.

Anyway, we'll see what happens...

I dont believe that Cleveland would trade him.

Anyone can be traded...for the right price. Jays likely couldn't justify meeting Cleveland's price.

I think its possible a discussion to took place, But I dont think that discussions were close. I'm sorry but its hard to believe anything that now comes out of a Rogers employee.

Just like the Reds wanted stroman...

only thing better than no trade is treating effort as a reward.

No one here believed the Jays would get Donaldson, especially for the package they gave up. Had AA not asked about him, he wouldn't have gotten him.

Here come the "Just hand the World Series to the Royals" comments. I can't wait for some s***** wildcard team to take them out

That's exactly what I thought, lol. This is the same thing as the Athletics last year, it doesn't really tell us anything about the playoffs.

royals getting cueto.. his first start is going to be against us. fml

A trade brought Cueto into a start against the Jays, and a trade took Kazmir out of one. Not a real reason to complain.

Jays need a couple moves. If they go all in for a SP, they need to make atleast one more move. Time for Colabello to gtfo.

To be honest, I don't think so. The "second move" should be to promote Pompey. All they really need is one starting pitcher. I wouldn't mind another pen arm, but there's really no other holes on the roster. Sure, it would be nice if they could get two starting pitchers, but that would only make sense if they were going to replace Dickey in the rotation, and we all know they'll never do that. Beyond that, there isn't really a dire need to replace Estrada, he's a good #5.

Fiers is pretty good though...something I haven't really seen anyone mention.

No kidding, he would be a very nice pickup. Sure he might be a #3, but he's a #3 that slots in for us for many years.

Nobody on Blue Jays Central has any clue what the hell is going on with the team. Don't ever take anything they say as reliable information, they're just regurgitating what Sportsnet writers like Davidi and BNS have already written about, and it's often broken-telephone misinformation.

Nobody ever reported that a deal for Carrasco was close. All we know is that AA allegedly asked the Indians about him, and that's utterly useless information, because it's safe to assume that AA has talked to every team about every notable player at this point.

Yup. Gets plenty of K's with that change and doesn't walk anyone. Very solid number 3 guy. Brewers probably aren't too motivated to deal him with all the control he has, though.

But when the pawns report that AA inquired and the return for any pitcher is Stroman + the farm and JD's first born daughter then they can "justify" why they did nothing as the deadline passes.

If the Jays win today, we are 2GB of the wildcard, and have been 6-3 since the all star game in 3 very difficult series. I want something done, maybe not an ace, but we cant keep throwing Felix Durbount out there. Its not going to work. Estrada is coming down to earth now.

All indications are that the market is SP heavy. People are reasonable here, they aren't asking for the moon. I dont want to be sitting here in August listening to Wilner about how Stroman is a deadline acquisiton, and getting back Sanchez is like getting back an elite reliever from trade. Guys are going to be pretty demoralized if AA sits on the shelf again.

I would.

I wouldn't, but that's fine if you would. I ask because Carrasco didn't seem to have crazy stats in the minors, is 28 and has never pitched more than 134 innings in a MLB season. Of course, he's about to surpass that this season, but just saying that some use the fact that Stroman only pitched well for 130 innings last year against him.

Anyway...

I don't think there is any one player who can push this team into the playoffs. So doing nothing is better than trading good prospects for rental. What they should be doing is trying to sell Buehrle. Hes one of the hottest pitchers in Baseball. Were not going to get the type of package a Cueto or David Price would net. But we could get something nice especially if some team gets desperate and strikes out on their main target.

Couldn't disagree more. First off, anyone that says there's no way this team makes the playoffs is out of their minds and just a typical jaded Toronto sports fan. This team is not far from being one of the best in the league. With this type of offense and RD you are in the playoff conversation. A couple of moves could most definitely help that cause. And this team isn't losing it's key players next year, the moves we make this year (Assuming it's not a rental) will put us in better shape next year.

Obviously you're not going to trade your current best pitcher when you're in playoff contention. The best strategy with Beurhle is to make him a qualifying offer at the end of the season and hope he accepts it for another year. Not only is he great on the mound, but he's great off the mound as well. Easily worth 15 million for next year.

I know it's trendy to bash the Jays, but people on here don't realize how good this team actually is.

Should clarify, I agree with not trading for a rental. But strongly disagree about trading Beurhle.

Shi Davidi reported the deal for Carasco was close. He reported this today.

Shi Davidi has no idea what's going on with this team either! When has Shi Davidi ever accurately reported a trade? Can you please give me a reference? Davidi is just as clueless about the Jays as any other "reporter". He was literally guessing how much payroll space the team had in the offseason. He might get some nice insider information after moves are made, but when the team hasn't said or done anything, he's sitting on the sidelines like the rest of us.
