jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 He's basically hoping Boston sells the farm and picks up his option.. which Boston is currently in no position right now, with the team struggling badly offensively, and could pretty much put themselves out of contention if they don't hit lefties and beat the Angels and Twins this weekend.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I would too. He's on a terrible team in Philly, and has a chance to be moved to a legit playoff contender. The team that acquires him controls him for 4.5 seasons. Why would he come to Toronto for 4.5 years of mediocrity and no playoffs?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Some rivals believe a "spark" is needed and espouse change for them, with just-fired Marlins manager Mike Redmond and three-time Manager of the Year Dusty Baker, who is close to Jays legend Cito Gaston, speculated as replacement possibilities. But Gibbons gets high marks for his strategy, and Anthopoulos, who sees the issue as one that's roster related, apparently is a believer. Oh my god

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 #LUP I like Gibbons. I can't imagine how out of the loop you'd have to be to want Dusty B. over Gibby.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Hire Dusty B for one day. Just long enough for him to turn Aaron Sanchez into a reliever.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Hire Dusty B for one day. Just long enough for him to turn Aaron Sanchez into a reliever. Why not just replace Walker with Baker altogether? Then all of our pitchers can be relievers.

Looked him up on wiki and.. Baker rejected (and still rejects) the on-base percentage statistic, arguing that extra baserunners simply "clog up the bases" unless they can run well.[14] This runs contrary to statistically oriented baseball strategy and has made Baker a frequent target among the sabermetric community. Additionally, many fans, commentators, and writers blamed his tendency to overuse pitchers and for damaging the careers of Robb Nen, Kerry Wood, Mark Prior and Edinson Volquez, earning him the nickname "Widowmaker." God damn.. Please keep Gibbons.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 No more 'trade for Hamels' talk I guess. It shows that AA was serious about getting pitching, that's a good sign i guess.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Baker would probably put Goins in lead off because he's a lefty and looks fast and thin (if Reyes is unavailable)
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 You now how hard it is to lead a team to 103 wins and not make the playoffs.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 but some on here are adamant that Alex isn't allowed to make a significant move (especially one that adds salary) since Rogers (or the new Prez) will be firing him shortly?
flafson Verified Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 You now how hard it is to lead a team to 103 wins and not make the playoffs. Did that really happen?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Did that really happen? It was pre wildcard. It's basically impossible now.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Did that really happen? 1993...lost 8 in a row in Mid September, then won 14 of the next 16 and lost the last game of the season 12-1. Fans in Toronto pretty much forget how great the NL race was that year.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) Is it possible Hamels is just fishing for an inducement to waive the NTC? probably all it is If I own a NTC and my team asks me to waive it, not gonna do it for free Edited May 22, 2015 by Jimcanuck
rookiefuzz Verified Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Stroman injury continues to sting.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 This is a good thing for people who think it's just a matter of going out and getting players to come. there are still players who refuse to come to the Jays. We need to show we can make the playoffs before that will change.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 No doubt Hamels would help if we could get him here and have the main piece be Sanchez (in a dream situation). Stroman Hamels Hutch Norris Dickey Hoffman, Osuna, Boyd, Castro, etc Much better looking rotation with Cole slotted in the top 2
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Would love Hamels but I would also like to know the trade offer. Might be a blessing in disguise or quite frankly a sad day
baubau Verified Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Would love Hamels but I would also like to know the trade offer. Might be a blessing in disguise or quite frankly a sad day Pretty much this. I imagine the Phlly asking for a combo of Norris, Pompey, Hoffman or Osuna at the very least. Parting with Pompey might be the toughest as he is really the only player we have in the outfield for the future. Bautista is getting old, Saunders a question mark, Pillar a 4th OF.

Praxis Verified Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Being a Jays fan these days is tough. Used to be the place players wanted to come too. True, but this is why it was so essential we stuck to the rebuilding and restocking plan that was categorically blown up in 2012. It has been said many times on this board but a rotation of Stroman, Hutch, Syndergaard, Alvarez, Sanchez, Desclafani, Nicolino etc. etc. would have provided the controllable pitching that could have been the cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. Players wanted to come in 1992 and 1993 because we had such a solid core of pitchers, position players etc. and were obviously building towards something special, yet all people seem to remember these days is the Alomar/Carter trade.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Being a Jays fan these days is tough. Used to be the place players wanted to come too. not since the mid 90s, when Interbrew started cheaping out and ended what the 1985 season started.
