ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 This is a good thing for people who think it's just a matter of going out and getting players to come. there are still players who refuse to come to the Jays. We need to show we can make the playoffs before that will change. Add Anibal Sanchez to this reported list of pitchers not wanting to pitch for Jays. Imagine trying to sign pitchers trying to re-establish their value which is what many wanted as depth? Yikes... *If true, of course.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 True, but this is why it was so essential we stuck to the rebuilding and restocking plan that was categorically blown up in 2012. It has been said many times on this board but a rotation of Stroman, Hutch, Syndergaard, Alvarez, Sanchez, Desclafani, Nicolino etc. etc. would have provided the controllable pitching that could have been the cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. Players wanted to come in 1992 and 1993 because we had such a solid core of pitchers, position players etc. and were obviously building towards something special, yet all people seem to remember these days is the Alomar/Carter trade. Not to defend AA, but having the patience to stick to rebuilding plans has to come from the very top of the organization. Too late now...

We're so nice. And humble. And totally more awesomer than Americans. Just more proof they're big stupidheads, not wanting to hang with us. Why won't you come play with us, you imbecile?" I don't get it. Why is this in quotations? Unless BBBB or raysjays posted something I can't see, the responses in this thread have been rational and understanding of why a player wouldn't want to come here.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Being a Jays fan these days is tough. Used to be the place players wanted to come too. Yeah, back when we had competent management. But homers (and Rogers) will blame it all on Toronto, Canada, and the turf instead of pointing the finger at the real problem.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Did that really happen? Yes, one of the most famous pennant race collapses in baseball history did, in fact, happen.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Toronto has the longest playoff drought in baseball (sports?), is in another country, plays on turf, and has hitter friendly stadium. Hamels has no reason to waive his NTC, especially since a better organization (Boston?) may get desperate a trade for him instead. As much as we all love the Jays, they have been a s*** franchise for too many years to get the benefit of the doubt with players.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 It's always the same thing with the Jays pitching pitching pitching
Willie Mays Hays Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 I would prefer if AA fired Gibby and replace with Redmond (?) than start trading away some young pitching. IMO they are not 'one arm away' to justify trading one of the young arms.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 So according to Davidi's article linked below, the Jays were in deed trying to acquire Hamels, but it was during the off season. If true, it would prove that AA was in deed trying to upgrade the starting rotation, he just couldn't do it: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-havent-asked-about-hamels-in-months/ I really hope they don't go out and trade for pitching unless they don't have to give up any top prospects which is highly unlikely given AA's history of overpaying for pitching.
