Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Has Francis ever not pitched like s***? He's f***ing terrible.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Doubront's xFIP in 2013/2014 was about the same as Dickey and Buehrle the past couple of years. He's pitched in the AL East, but has lost some velo the past couple of years. Decent depth guy.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 BTS will love this. He covets Doubront.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Perfect world is probably something like: Bautista Donaldson Martin Encarnacion Saunders Reyes Smoak Travis Pompey I would like to see: Reyes Bautista Pompey/Saunders EE Smoak Donalson Saunders/pompey Martin Travis Saunders and pompey could switch, and if Pompey is batting down may swap him and Martin as well in the 7/8 holes! But the order would be set with little changes everyone can bat everyday in the same spots even when fatty is in! Lol

Lol I appreciate the balanced R/L line-up, but with the way this team is built, it just doesn't make sense for Pompey/Saunders to be getting more ABs than EE and Donaldson, or Smoak to get more ABs than Donaldson...
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Decent depth piece. Will he be stretched out as a starter in Buffalo? I honestly don't see the difference between him and Estrada, had Estrada pitched in the AL East these past few years. The word decent is offended
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The word decent is offended so are all accountants.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) I appreciate the balanced R/L line-up, but with the way this team is built, it just doesn't make sense for Pompey/Saunders to be getting more ABs than EE and Donaldson, or Smoak to get more ABs than Donaldson... Balance speed power thang too mostly! Gives every big bopper a chance at more rib-eyes two, too! Smoak could benefit greatly between EE and Donaldson pitcher can't lock in either as easy! Plus Martin even though not a big bopper in the 8 hole means are best hitters are put to best use driving runs in. With this offense nobody should worry about getting enough at bats this season when we will be scoring as much as this team will!!! it's about winning not how many at bats or stats! Lol That's why we play the game's! Edited April 2, 2015 by BigBounceyBlueBalls

CrackerJack Verified Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Not having protection helps the player though. It increases their contributions because they get even more walks. It's a good thing. so (in your opinion) is a walk always a good thing for the offense and a bad thing for the defense? since teams frequently pitch around feared sluggers resulting in a lot of "intentional unintentional walks" (in addition to the obvious intentional walks), do you think this is always bad strategy for the defense? i'm not talking about Joey Votto's approach at all (which I have no problem with) ... i'm just wondering whether issuing/drawing a walk could be viewed from both dugouts as a wise move (depending on the situation?) ... or, for you, are walks always "a good thing" for the offense and thus bad for the other side even though that's the outcome they're intending?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Rules of thumb to build a lineup. Three best hitters go 1, 2, and 4. Best OBP guy 1, best SLG 4 and the other guy 2nd. Your two next best hitters go 3 and 5. Best OBP 3rd. Next best is in order 6-9. If close in talent, faster guy goes first. Just to add to this... The frequency of 2 out no one on base PAs for the 3rd hitter knock the value of that spot down a peg in spite of what conventional wisdom says.

I've always felt the fastest of 6-9 should be last to never limit your lead off guy from stretching singles in to doubles, etc. I wouldn't want Navarro in front of Reyes for example

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Please enlighten us on how martin and Saunders are better hitters than Reyes. Avoid the use of arbitrary projections please mr robot Well, if you dont want to use projections (which would actually help you argument) both Saunders and Martin were extremely better than Reyes: Saunders: 126 wRC+ Martin: 140 wRC+ Reyes: 102 wRC+ Projections have them closer. You could put Reyes ahead without a drop but they are all comparable.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 That's FakeWilner. Not that there's much difference in the delusion level between the parody and the real thing. I honestly didn't notice lol
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Cherry picking career years isn't what I was looking for kid. Martin is no where near a career 140 wRC+ hitter and Saunders will play about 65 games all season The guy who doesn't trust projections is just fine with baseless speculation. Gotcha.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Ya the third spot has the lowest average LI of all spots in the lineup. Sorry - what's LI?

And when will we ever see a ML Manager break "tradition" and actually do this? I've always been a huge proponent of getting your best hitters more at bats (seems simple enough) - yet ML managers still don't even try and do that... I never understood sticking some light hitting guys who handles the bat well 2nd (P.Polanco).
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Sorry - what's LI? Leverage Index. Measures the importance of the situation.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Baseless speculation has no base, surmising an outcome is likely to happen that has happened nearly every prior season is speculation based on the most accurate information available at the moment. All a projection system does is weigh past information in a way that minimizes error. It is similar to what you do in your head but will be more accurate over a large pool of players. It's not arbitrary at all and is a useful tool. At any rate, projections and my intuition agree that Saunders, Martin and Reyes are comparable hitters.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Park factors 2013-2014 (runs / HR): PNC: 0.941 / 0.675 RC: 1.137 / 1.387 Are you a gambling man? wRC+ is park adjusted

tpurewal97 Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 So does this mean that Goins makes the team , and the Jays will risk losing Hendriks on waivers now that they've got Doubront in Buffalo ?
