KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 WTF? I could have sworn I saw him listed a lefty just the other day. Whatever, he didn't earn a job and that has nothing to do with Castro and Osuna.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I guess you never saw him pitch pre-TJ? Sure I did but I didn't care enough to store a clear mental image of it. It's not unusual at my age to forget this kind of stuff.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 (edited) Last piece of the Halladay trade. As big as it seemed at time we didn't get much out of it. I remember a few days after the trade Keith Law on Fan590. Saying how good this trade as for Jays. Original deal Gose wasn't in it, a kid named Wallace was in original trade. Law was saying how Wallace was going to hit, he's hit the heck out of the ball at every level. Then he said Drabek was going to be one of main stays in our rotation for next 5-10 years. TDA was best catching prospect in baseball. - boy was he ever wrong. Edited March 29, 2015 by GNick49

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I didn't really see this one coming but kind of did if that makes sense. I would have thought they'd try to move him at least for a PTBNL and/or cash rather than waivers but they had a choice to make. I though he'd break camp and maybe after failing try to send him down kind of like what they did with Percy.

TDA is a pretty legit catcher, Taylor isn't in baseball and Drabek was a good looking prospect before the second TJS.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 It was Michael Taylor not Wallace. Though we did get Wallace soon after. Yup. We traded Taylor for Wallace (after we failed to sign him after draft) who was later traded for gose, who then got us Travis.

Wilner had a decent piece comparing the Halladay trade to others: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-return-halladay-stack/

Since in both cases of Drabeks TJ surgery the doctors transplanted the ulnar collateral ligament from Drabkes leftside of his body!
Praxis Verified Member Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Wilner had a decent piece comparing the Halladay trade to others: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-return-halladay-stack/ A ridiculous article that displays the kind of amateriush buffoonery one would usually expect from the dregs of the average fan forum. The trade has to be looked at in terms of what was given up by the Phillies for Roy Halladay, i.e. Drabek (a bust), d'Arnaud (we still don't know) and Taylor (a bust). To say that we actually got Travis in the trade and thus imply that this was somehow how it was meant to be is ludicrous and utterly flawed. The logic then is that AA knew that in trading for Taylor he would then get Wallace followed by Gose and then Travis all over the span of 4 years. Utterly ridiculous. The trade was a poor trade and we gave up a franchise player in prime form for nothing. Wilner is a rank amateur who somehow still has a job in the Sportsnet organization. Incidentally Wallace was a bust, we've given up on Gose who is also probably a bust and we just don't know about Travis yet.

Because things didnt pan out as hoped doesn't make it a bad trade.

Yes, analyzing trades in hindsight is always a fantastic practice.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 d'Arnaud is going to be much more valuable an asset than one year of Halladay in a lost season.

You're right; we should just judge GM's solely on their win-loss record - forget about analyzing their big trades. After all in that regard AA has actually done really well. Oh, wait.....
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 They got 2 top prospects and 1 pretty good one for a pitcher with a no trade clause on a 1 year deal, who would only go to about 2-3 teams IRC.

You are aware that as part of the trade he immediately signed on with the Phillies for 3 more years plus an option? Any trade involving Halladay was always going to involve a contract extension; this did not somehow diminish his trade value in the offseason he was moved. I would also like to see some evidence of the fact that he would only go to 2 or 3 teams; the best information at the time stated a list of teams with more expressing interest and I'm not sure 2-3 teams exactly constitutes a "list." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4352032
