I have a strong feeling that Martin overachieved considerably offensively last year, and we won't be seeing a high .OBP or a good offensive year for him.

 

Hopefully Pompey does well this year and we can replace Martin in the 2 hole. Of course, that ends up having Martin in the 7 slot ;/

 

His plate discipline is a skill of his though, career 11.6 BB% and 15.8 K%. Sure he might not repeat a 140 wRC+, but projections still like him as an above average hitter.

Offensively yes, his catching should still be very valuable though, since framing ages well.

It really is. I know that media sports personalities always tend to stir controversy and gain some haters, but he's in a different league. To be honest the Jays talk segment I can deal with, it's his play by play that is just terrible.

Even if Martin regresses a lot he is still a lot better hitter than Pompey. Honestly I see Pompey being the worst hitter in the lineup with everyone healthy. He is going to strike out quite a bit and I don't know if you want that batting 2nd.

if we run smoak and goins out and donaldson , reyes good infield defense and a lot of ground balls shipley/sanchez could have a good year if he continues to induce ground balls
