S33n Verified Member Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) Is there anything worse than the Jose Bautista argument for players who suck figuring it out? For every Jose Bautista, there are +1000000000 players who are now sitting at home not playing baseball. Probably not. It was the first example that came to mind and I was actually curious as to what they said after he got done mashing in Aug/Sept of '09. Edited March 26, 2015 by S33n
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 How does Drabek look this Spring (velocity, command)? His Spring numbers are not terrible and he's out of options. I remember reading that his velocity was bad early in the spring so I wrote him off, but maybe there is some hope afterall.

Casey Janssen circa 2012 had more juice on his pitches
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Do you think those 51 innings are a trend? NO. The regression will f*** your ass the coming 50 innings. Shi wrote an article about Sanchez in December about him altering his mechanics in AAA last season before he came up to the bigs. It wasn't big changes, he was just dropping his elbow and not getting on top of the ball and this was giving him control issues. Once he raised that arm slot slightly he had much better control. Do 999,999 inning matter if what caused you to be wild in those innings are things you no longer do? Joey Bats was not very good until September of 2009. He made mechanical and mental adjustments that made him a better player. From that point on his 2005 stats did not matter because he was fundamentally a different player. I can't say for certain Sanchez has made all the necessary adjustments to have a much better walk rate because I don't understand pitching mechanics well enough to make that assessment. The Jays staff seems to think that he has made enough adjustments to be successful at the big league level. The reality is he will continually have to make adjustments to maintain and get better from this point. The fact that prior to Sanchez ever coming up the Jays had indicated Sanchez had made adjustments to help him with his control and the results of a 2.5 walk rate last year and 4 walks in 18.1 innings this year lead me to believe he will not regress back to his minor league numbers. This spring he has used all his pitches including a new one and still only walked 4 batters.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 We are most definitely going to have a bottom 10 bullpen. I would and will bet money on it. Any takers? They were bottom 4 last year. Hmmm....

spats Verified Member Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Flying down tomorrow Make sure you make it to the Mattick Complex off Solon and Keene when the Jays are on the road. There will be minor league games being played on all 3 diamonds. All of the top prospects will be there along with any of the regulars who are trying to get some work in. The last 2 times I was there (Tues and Wed),Hutch and Buehrle pitched 5 innings.Games start at 1.
