Curious how this works when a player "turns it around" over a significant sample size, but struggled in an area in the past. For example Russell Carleton has an article stating that 170 batters faced is considered a significant sample size for measuring a pitcher's walk rate. 51 innings would amount to over 170 batters faced. At what point does the most recent significant sample size become the most relevant?

99,999 Minor league IP + Your 170 IP = Sanchez command still suxx

Sanchez pitches in to the 6th gives up 2 hits, 1 walk and no one is ever f***ing happy here.

Well...if he stood a few inches to the left on the rubber he wouldnt have given up the 2 BB's.....maybe induced a cpl more swinging strikes :D. Afterall a 8 pitch strikeout

is so much better than 3 pitch ground ball!

Good question, I was wondering the same thing. That being said, Ang did have a point about the difference between relief appearances and games started.

Pretty sure projections take all of this into account properly. There is no throw out this sample and use this one. It's a combination.

Devils advocate here: What did projections have to say about Jose Bautista after the 2009 season leading into the 2010 campaign?

edit: I realize this is an extreme example

Sorry? It's 170 batters faced. And he only has about 450 IPs total including the latest 50 when his control has been solid. So roughly 11% of his total IPs - which is the latest segment - he has has his control in check. It was a serious question. His command sucked, that's for sure, but when can we start to wonder if it still does?

Is there anything worse than the Jose Bautista argument for players who suck figuring it out? For every Jose Bautista, there are +1000000000 players who are now sitting at home not playing baseball.

Pft, StroChez. More like, NorMan (Norris + Hoffman).. Okay, that doesn't work. We'll stick with StroChez.

Norris needs a buddy too lol.

I don't know why, but this actually blew my mind. What do we dub Castro when he comes out now? "Stro Show" is taken and "Cas Show" just sucks balls.
