Now, if only we could get rid of Bautista.

I am down for getting rid of anyone on this team from Bautista to Stroman as long as the end result is clearly making the team better. With that being said, being that the team believes they will be in contention, lets hold off on trading the guy that ranked 7th in WAR (probably top 10 is you factor other catcher's pitch framing) and 5th in WAR for OF. Mkay?

I agree in the sense that I would rather high OBP than high slugging but if you are a low OBP guy then at least slug and bring something to the plate. My point was that I don't think he was benched entirely because of his offense - he was hitting better in the second half and showing improvement in the second half at the plate. Who knows maybe if they let him play he hits better and pops 25 homers. He was basically hitting better than his 2012 numbers and he didn't get benched then. His 2014 was down from his 2013 but not by a whole lot. Benching a player is a pretty serious thing and I just don't see something there that was so awful. Yeah he strikes out so what - there are guys in the league who get trotted out everyday like Mark Reynolds and Adam Dunn that strike-out far more and Colby plays a position where typically offense isn't expected.

And while slugging may be the same for a slam or a solo shot - if you're up 15-2 and you hit a slam that is less valuable than 3-3 bottom of the ninth and you hit the game winning solo shot. 1 for 5 with the game winning homer is more valuable than 4 for 5 when the score is up or down 15-2.

And Francisco was ridiculously hot for a few weeks and made a huge positive contribution to the team over that time. Then he turned into a big pit of disaster.

Finished reading the full article and Lind was very honest, but very glowing about the Jays. He even dabbled in some trivia, and remembers all the hits Cabrera had last year.

I wouldn't say we pillaged Oakland. We won the deal in the short term. But I actually like Graveman a fair bit. I think 5 years from now if Lawrie can ever stay healthy (and yes that's a big if) Oakland is better off from this trade. I see Barreto as a similar player to Erick Aybar. I like the deal, we just didn't rip the A's off by any means.

I like Gravemen 2 but there is a ceiling there, Barreto is not a good defender and won't stick at short but yeah maybe not a pillage in value. I just don't like Lawrie being the centerpiece of the deal for Oak.

I found that strange too...like oddly stalkerish. I wonder if Melky knows how many hits Lind had last year? Unless of course the writer just edited that in later per Lind's permission if he recalled Melky having "a lot of hits". Honestly 171 hits is not THAT special outside of its context so it would be weird if that was Lind's direct quote.

Maybe but he didn't say anything really negative about them. He said they were the team leaders (which makes perfect sense) but he didn't qualify their leadership. Maybe he (and possilby Lawrie) didn't get along with Bautista and that's why they're gone and maybe he's not going to take ownership for his role in that but in the end, who really cares? All this speculation is kind of pointless and getting old.

Or maybe that's just a typical ******** Toronto narrative, like pretty much everything ever written in the offseason is. Lawrie is gone because he was the last resort in bringing back Donaldson, and Lind is gone because as AA has already said multiple times, he was a salary dump. If they had Martin in mind when dumping Lind's salary, then Lind can f*** off too. Lind and Lawrie's spots on the roster have been replaced with Martin and Donaldson. That's it. That's the reason they're gone. There's nothing else to deduce from it.

I hope Lind is as bitter as he can be about the way Toronto dumped him; he's a good player for what he's expected to do but you just know he's one of those anal pricks that will come back after his career is over and become the next Zaun. I'd much prefer it if he does that for another team.

Article was kinda dumb. Like he thought it was going to be so good and got nothing.

Hill "He won a silver slugger"

Molina "He had a great year in 2006"

Really, is this stuff article worthy?

He was just being honest, aside from the Colby comment I don't see where he's thrown anyone under the bus nor is he running his mouth. He even said he wants to work for the Jays when he's done his career. As far as I've always known, I thought Colby was just a guy who kept to himself, maybe somewhat socially awkward but for all we know those 2 never got along.

I bet you could write this in response to any "article" that Elliott has written over the past several years and it would apply.

“I was leaving my house (in Palm Harbour, Fla.) when one of our pitchers sent a text with the trade,” said Lind, who added the pitcher typed: “All my friends are leaving.”

Aww, poor pitcher. Looks like "pitcher" is just gonna have to wipe the blood from his vagina and make some new friends. Hope he enjoys the company of superstars.

Ughhh, it's happening already.

I think Lind has it wrong. It seems to me like his stance is that the Jays have brought in players to "fix the clubhouse" (maybe Martin), but really what they did was let players away (Gose, Rasmus, Lawrie, Lind etc..) that were problems in the clubhouse.

I agree with this. Although I think it's a little short sighted to downplay the potential impact Martin may have in the clubhouse.

Posted

Lind is crafty, while not directly saying there is a problem in the clubhouse, you can pretty much insinuate that he thinks there is.

I'm not sure if he meant to do it intentionally (or if he's that dumb), but just like in real life, it's unprofessional to talk that candidly about your previous place of employment. We may appreciate the honesty, but don't confuse it with the wrong way to handle the situation. Evaluating if the Jays additions will change the culture, mentioning a pitcher 'who has no friends', throwing Colby under the bus, speaking on behalf of Casey. All are very unprofessional remarks. Not to mention asking him what his 'Top Jays' are.... what the hell Elliott?

Should of simply stated 'I had a great start to my career with the Jays and wish them the best of luck. Hopefully I can return someday in some capacity. However, my priorities are with making the Pirates everyday right now.'

I think club house culture is important when building a team. Think about your work environment. If you enjoy it and it's an overall positive environment you'll be more productive. It's one of the reasons why companies like Google and Apple are such great places to work. If you hate your work environment your work will suffer.

Fair enough, I am speaking on Barreto strictly on offensive stats alone. If he's unable to stay at short, than that definitely would change my opinion a little. I agree you can't make anybody who has failed to stay healthy the centerpiece of a trade. Like every other trade, we won't be able to evaluate until 3-5 years from now. Especially when prospects involved.

While Lind is getting called out for some of his dumbass/honest remarks, we have to remember it's the goof reporter responsible for all this. It's not like Lind blurted this stuff out unsolicited. That moron Elliott chased him down at the Brewers' training complex to get these valuable insights in a pathetic attempt to keep his career alive. Lind was probably taking this interview with " please f*** off, I'd like to get back to settling in and training with my new team now" in the back of his mind.

Buehrle and Bautista are voices in the clubhouse and rightfully so. So glad this pansy is gone. You're not part of this market anymore, just shut the f*** up.

He just answered, what he was asked? STFU!!

Lind seems to be too opinionated, you know the type that can't keep their mouth shut for very long. Lawrie the same, those two probably had some gabfests into the early hours spouting off about AA, Gibby, teammates, etc

Good riddance

Lind's opinions aren't particularly strong. He just doesn't have a filter.

You forgot to use '110%' and 'just taking it one day at a time'. It's not hard to say absolutely nothing interesting in interviews, but I really like the guys that aren't afraid to give you a little something juicy, that's outside of the standard answers that their PR coaches tell them to say.

I don't get it. Everyone complains when guys give generic, cliche, responses. Then the same people moan when someone gives an honest, non-cliche, answer to a question asked.

Just STFU already f***ing whiners.

So this guy on reddit said he dated a girl that had a fling with Rasmus on twitter. Add it to the rumor mill of a guy cheating on his wife!

Even Wayne Brady wouldn't be caught in that sweater over what I believe is a collared shirt/tie combo...
