glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 f***. We used to be so jealous of Oakland and Tampa because they always had these good young arms that kept coming up and being successful. That could now be us for a change. Let's be happy about it. How many times has Tampa or Oakland done something to a prospect similar to what the Jays are doing to Castro? I'll guess never. What's stopping AA from using Osuna and Hoffman as relievers next year? Dude is out of his f***ing mind right now.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I have no idea why people are questioning whether or not AA is "dumbing things down" for fans. Remember when he sent Nolin back down after an inning, citing he didn't look ready? Now he's basing these bad choices over stupidly small amounts of data. Sanchez in the rotation is a mistake, Castro to BP is probably a mistake. They keep saying they have money, if you're going for it, then f***ing go for it and stop with the half measures.
Nafro Verified Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Can we all agree that we are Jays fans? It has been decided that Sanchez is in the rotation (announced today) and there is a very good chance Miguel Castro is going to be in the bullpen. I for one think they both are going to do well and and I hope they help us win.

closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I see Castro pitching out of the BP until Juneish assuming he doesnt falter before then. Then they will send him back to the minors and he will again come back in around late July or early August as a starter (someone will be hurt by then).
Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 How much u willing to bet? I would have bet a 100$ or something if I knew you personally. I wouldn't really care about the money though, It's about self satisfaction.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Sanchez is going to be fine in the rotation. Thanks Nostradamus. What are you basing this on? Gut feeling, or because he had a low ERA for 30 innings last year?

Gut feeling, or because he had a low ERA for 30 innings last year? and you're certain he's going to be s*** because of his minor league stats? I have no idea where he will develop to, but you don't put a horse with elite tools out to pasture without ever letting him run a race.

It would be nice if they would give him more time to develop into a starter in the minor leagues though... the guy flew through AA and AAA, doesn't even have solid fastball control, and they're asking him to try to learn a slider at the big league level as a starter.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Yay ignoring minor league numbers woohoo ignoring major league stats and major league coaches evaluations is wise too...yay!!!!

TRM Verified Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 2 Weeks Amongst the Rotation? Nope, Wins Above Replacement. It's kind of fun to senselessly advocate for him, because if I'm wrong I can just pass it off as joking bluster, but if I'm right I get to rub it in everyones face while also becoming the spiritual leader of the uninformed masses.

Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 My guess(which my be terrible/with bias) is Sanchez has around a 15% of being good, 35% chance of being okay, 35% chance of being replacement level, and 15% chance of being terrible.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 This is where it starts. I also miss JPA, and think that Ryan Goins should stick. I think the line is - JPA will be an above average hitter at the major league level, mark my words, and I want him in AAA!

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Aaron Sanchez “It’s not like my command is bad, they’re competitive walks,” Sanchez says. “Don’t get me wrong, there are some four-pitch walks, but being able to throw my curveball for a strike and put out people with my curveball is probably the biggest thing I wanted to work on this year, because I feel like my changeup and my fastball are pretty much there every night.” “I want people to beat me with my best stuff, that’s everybody’s thought process,” says Sanchez. “Getting cheap hits on my off-speed was frustrating at the beginning, but I understood the big picture. This whole process since I’ve been drafted is looking at the whole big picture and yeah, maybe it’s slower and I still may be in high-A, but there’s been a plan since the day I signed and it’s about sticking to it.” In past years the curveball has been more of a finishing pitch for Sanchez—an “0-2 hammer punch-out curve,” as he describes it—while this season he incorporated a slower version of it in the 79–84 range that finishes in the zone. The difference, he explains, is in “the release point.” “I was trying to make it too nasty, and taking a step back, and letting it do the work out front is what’s helped me,” he continues. “It was always a good curveball, I just could never throw it for a strike, so nobody would respect it. They were sitting fastball. Now that I can throw that, it’s getting me through five, six, seven innings.”
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 competitive walks !!!!!!! omfg productive outs, move over.
